After almost 10 years, "Orange Wednesdays" are ending!

 

Thanks for a few first dates when I was a teenager!!! Now back to paying full price, doh!

Been a few times and will go a few more before Feb I reckon although a lot of the time we use groupon type deals for the local cinemas.

Our local paper does a members-only thing where you get two-for-one on a Monday so at least I will still have that.

How does that work? Can I just get a PAYG SIM and pretty much just use it for the cinema? Is it only certain cinemas? (Ours is a small independent chain).

Our cinema is always busier on Weds nights; they do a "cheap night" on Tuesday - buts it's not as cheap as 2-for-1. Admittedly, we now just use an old phone purely for Orange Wednesdays - so people like us aren't helping their profits!

I think you can get a PAYG SIM for Priority Moments - keep meaning to do this myself as sometimes they have quite good deals on!

With more and more people watching films on their tablets, phones and TVs at home, the number of people using the Orange Wednesday deal has declined.

So does this mean it's costing them too much money to run for such a few people? Otherwise, I'd say what's the harm in keeping it going if it doesn't require any work from them?

News article was saying they couldn't agree commercial terms with cinemas so it could be that.

We used to have the unlimited card before we bought a house together. Used to go at least twice a week. I wish I still had one.

Apparently Compare the Market are looking at replacing them... so we'll see the meerkat and his team all over the place soon... or more than now anyway!

Tesco Clubcard vouchers are the way to go for casual Cineworld visits.

 

£4.50 in vouchers for an adult ticket (£3.50 for kids), plus you can use it to book online in advance for 50p a ticket. You can also get a voucher for a small drink and small popcorn for £2.50, which saves about £5-6 compared to the cinema price.

 

Of course the ultimate bargain is Movies for Juniors, £1.35 a seat with myCineworld signup.

That could be a double-edged sword though - every time I've done a comparison site run, I've picked up at least two credit file hits from insurers - too many of those and they can cause you problems.

You have to take out some kind of insurance with them to get the 2 for 1. The best thing to do is get some cheap uk travel insurance for a day, which can work out to about £2. You then wait 48 hours and your 2for1 is activated!!! simplesss...
