unixman_again Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 I have rollers rather than a turbo trainer; can't use a turbo with a Brompton, but rollers are dandy, in spite of what know-it-alls on the internet say.
jamin100 Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 ive not long joined trainerroad.com which is quite good for indoor training. Basically you hook up a HRM, speed and Cadence sensor to the PC wirelessly via ant+ and then follow the software on the screen. There are plenty of training plans to follow also. Really good for £6 a month
mats Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Ride to work bike : 1989 Raleigh Chiltern in black and mud. Whitewall delta cruisers for the looks, bright lights, air zound horn for things that can't / won't hear the bell. Chrome rims = scary lack of brakes in the wet - ally dyno wheel waiting in the garage. Maintainance - almost zero. Hub gears rock, even when there's only 3 of them.
Oaktech Posted December 9, 2014 Author Posted December 9, 2014 I prefer walking.... well, if that's not an example of 'theres no new ideas, just old ones with new technology' I don't know what is!
Bompalompalomp Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 I call her Sally because she's my Ride. 1

Tesla Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Vegvísir - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I hate rain. Oh, that's infinitely cooler. (seems like that's coming across sarcastically, it's not meant to!)
Oaktech Posted December 9, 2014 Author Posted December 9, 2014 I call her Sally because she's my Ride. My friend has one of these, he bought it new in 2011 and he's been through 5 bikes since - crashed, broke, sold, you name it - he's kept the YBR and just keeps going back to it because the YBR just keeps going. Even after being stood for a whole year!

(don't worry, we won't tell) bikebubble The ultimate in 'puting it away for the winter'
rickjames Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 I've been going with a buff over my chin and then pulled up over my head. I might look like an idiot, but i'm a warm idiot! I have a snood which serves my neck fine, but my ears really felt it this morning. Also since getting a baselayer and softshell it's been a revelation, I don't sweat like a pig anymore and feel way better off for it. Huzzah. 1
Oaktech Posted December 10, 2014 Author Posted December 10, 2014 What one piece of equipment would you not be without? For me it's a tough choice between my fetching Buff or my Ultraflate?
7UD9 Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 For mountain biking in the UK, these are invaluable. Really lightweight and simple mudguard. Not so much for keeping you or your bike clean, only to keep crap out of your eyes and fork stanchions. http://www.muckynutz.com/image/cache/data/FF_03_G_small-230x230.png 1
crc-ict Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 The whole pedalling this is a bit too much effort for me I'm afraid. I've got one of these bad boys for a bit of fun: It's a 2010, and only cost me £175 back in the summer. Gives me a plaything to fiddle with the in the garage, and is useful transport to nip to the shops etc. It's only a 50cc, so it's not fast, but I can ride it on my car licence without needing to worry about CBT or tests.
Mark182 Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 With all the snow and ice we’ve been having I’ve got some of these rollers! They are ace! Riding my bike indoors is very strange.
theriver Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Nothing, since my Specialized Sirrus got stolen last month For those with cold ears, an elasticated fleece headband is a great thing - keeps forehead and ears warm, doesn't interfere with the helmet too much. E.g. Amazon.co.uk: running ear warmer
Arreks Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 I call her Sally because she's my Ride. If I were to start riding, I think I'd get a YBR. They're beauties. 125cc right? so I'd only need the CBT?
Andrew_C Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 CBT is valid for two years. If you do a proper test in that time, all is well. If not, you need to do the CBT again. Please don't ask about the testing regime; it does my head in!!

jinnantonnixx Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 (edited) My bike. A Vitus Dee 29. A dead-simple singlespeed. Extra mudguards, and a cunning chain mudguard fashioned from a round plastic sweet box. I had to change the tyres to Schwalbe Big Apple Pluses as the original tyres were prone to punctures. I've just changed the chain (Izumi 1/8" track chain) and (you can only do this with single-speed) I flipped the chainring and sprocket over so the new chain is dragged by and pulls fresh teeth on the cogs. This crafty manoeuvre doubles the life of the drivetrain (which is cheap enough anyway, what with having no other gears). Click to enbiggenate. Edited January 29, 2015 by jinnantonnixx 1
burnsyb0y Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 My YBR, wont have her for long though as I am buying my first 600cc next month.
