As the Admission Number is school-specific I can't see any reason not to issue them by Admitting them or otherwise as it's the UPN which is unique to each student and stays with them throughout their school life.

I have when I was in SE London. I believe the central services were funded by a fixed percentage of the individual school budgets, i.e. 5% for example, no matter how many students, devices, demand, etc although those same budgets would have been funded on 'x' amount per pupil......

Using Impero at my last school which covered the basics I guess but we were always struggling as to how it could be monitored, etc. and by whom.

I've just been made redundant from my school after just ten months, lack of foresight some would say as budgets are getting beyond tight! It's my third redundancy from a school in the past twelve years. I managed 7 years, just less than 2 years and less than 1 year on each occasion. After 24 years in the corporate sector from leaving school, working in the public sector is a doddle (as someone else alludes to, i.e. there's minimal pressure to get it done right now, unless OFSTED are due in tomorrow). Plus the working hours are good and generally everyone mucks in to support the childrens' learning. Will I stay in Education for my next job? Probably, it's where I can evidence my experience and achievements during recent years. Transferrable skills? Yes, lots from both corporate and education sector so I would be interested in doing something different. I just don't know what unless it jumps out on me!

Hi @mavhc Yes, we have the groups setup by computer rooms, laptop trolleys, etc. and also by student year groups, etc. The major policies are set against the students and the temporary blocks/allows for youtube, etc. are controlled at computer room level. So far so good. However, when I watch what's going on I can see captures taking place and also see this replicated in the Captures section. I can run various reports to extract top sites, top users/offenders, etc. but there is an awful lot to trawl through. How can I set up a leader to be able to see a snapshot of a days activities with ease, i.e. severe captures?

I've done the above but can only run mstsc.exe with elevated privileges. Is there something else wrong perhaps? When I do get on to the remote desktops they indicate issues with RD Licensing Manager.... but I can't see what I need to do next.

On my workstation I am unable to access the remote desktop server?

I've just updated our policies and installed the Managed Policy and applied these to all students so at least they are being monitored and captured by the system. However, when it comes to actively monitoring, alerting and reporting on what is happening on a daily basis, I am looking for some practical advice and tips on how best to configure the system and who within the school could or should be the ones monitoring and deciding what action should be taken, where appropriate. I believe our Heads of KS3 and KS4 should have console access and be responsible for monitoring but, assuming this would be okay, how do I make it easy for them to use the system? Thanks

Hi, I've purchased two additional sata drives to increase the storage on my Dell R720 server which hosts numerous VM's. Currently has 2 x drives for the OS and 4 x drives for the data storage. The latter is RAID0. I've inserted the two new drives and the lights are on. How do I get them to join in?

Using MDT at my school is painful and takes anything from a few hours to an overnight process. That's probably due to the network performance being &%$£ poor. So, we now just boot from USB to install Windows 10, manually install Office 2016, then use Ninite.com for Chrome, Foxit, Peazip, Java, Silverlight, etc. and deploy other software like Adobe CS6, Papercut, etc. via GPO. It takes about two hours per machine. Much quicker.

An interesting read.... My current school has not invested in IT for years so the desktops/laptops/servers/switches, etc. all way past their potential end of life.... but still keep on going albeit with an increasing number of issues! It has been made clear to me that there is insufficient, if any, funding available to purchase new equipment so I have to consider what we can do with what we have. I've got a desktop (same spec as a member of staff/student) which is okay but not great however, as someone mentioned earlier, I tend to remotely connect to Hyper-V hosts and the numerous VM's to administer the network and server environment. I'm also a big fan of Chromebooks and we have some being used by students and some staff at the moment, hoping to increase this in the future as they don't need any maintenance and support. They just work. At the moment, I'm using a HP Chromebook myself, a larger 14" screen version, which is using an external monitor to view the rdp sessions, etc. whilst still allowing me to use my browser-based access for email, docs, etc. It seems to work fine. My preference for any likely spending would be to focus on the core switch and a new server with storage.
