Hi,

I am in the VLSC. I can only see MAK keys for all my products and not the KMS keys, usually you can see both. Am i missing something here?

Thanks

Do you have access to VAMT 3.1? The KMS keys are built into it, so that's where many people get them from now I believe. There's this old thread for 7/2008 R2 and earlier, not sure for 8 and 8.1.

Im not sure that is correct. VMAT is just a tool, mainly for people who don't use KMS. I have setup a 2012 R2 KMS not that long ago with 2012 R2 KMS keys

View Relationship Summary » click relevant 'Licensing ID' agreement link » 'Product Keys' tab?

No MAK keys only. :(

Strange. Were the KMS keys there previously?

There must have been as there is a KMS setup. This was setup by the previous NM. The licencing has just been renewed so I am wondering if that caused a glitch.

May or may not be relevant but:

I am an Open Customer and do not see my KMS (Key Management Service) key displayed on VLSC. How can I get it?

KMS keys are no longer pre-assigned to Open agreements as use of MAK (Multiple Activation Key) keys is the preferred method for activation.

If you are an Open Customer and need a KMS key, please request one by either calling the PA Call Center or emailing KMSADD with your business need.

We recently had a customer with this problem, a quick call to MS put it right.

I can't remember 100% now, as it's a good while since I set it up. VAMT is still damn handy even with KMS, for things like forcing KMS activations when PCs are being stubborn.

To be honest I think they should issue KMS keys as default and make you request MAK keys. MAK keys can be disclosed and activate hundreds of machines. Not the same with KMS.

Problem solved. You now have to phone Microsoft and ask them for the KMS keys. Its a 5 minute phone call, but still an inconvenience.

The number is 0800 9179016

You get through to the USA not India so that's a massive plus!

This is a bit of a necrothread but I just had to say thank you for this number! I spent 10 minutes on the India number struggling to understand each other before being told I had to email (the wrong address) to request KMS keys be added to VLSC. 5 minutes on this number and it was all sorted!

No worries, glad I could be of help :)

Just jumping in on this as I have the same problem now. Do you just ring the number and quote your agreement number and ask for the KMS keys or do you have to justify it in some way as the explanation quoted above states that you must give a "business need".

Didn't need a business case. Just phoned, gave agreement number and that was it. Took 5 mins.

Just wasting my time with this this morning, been through to India twice, both times they had no idea what they needed to do, and they cut me off. Even trying that number above I keep ending up at an Indian call centre that has no idea what it is doing, so just going through random options now and hoping!

This has only changed when we renewed our license agreement this year which makes it even more inconvenient and we have been using our KMS, so why they take them off you, so you need to request them again is beyond me.

This generally happens when one agreement expires and a new one is added. For some reason they don't seem to fill the need to provide the same level of access to the same people on the new agreement. Normally a quick e-mail to you Account Manager should get it taken care of (listing all those you require to have access).

Taken me over 40 minutes on hold and messing about but i finally have my KMS keys back

Took me 5 minutes. Was quite straight forward. I guess it depends on who you get on the other end of the phone.
