Sonic 2 is surprisingly good. Lot of nods for old nerds like us. My 8 & 9yo were fine with the run-time, but then Lincolnshire cinemas still have an intermission for you to buy ice cream so this data point may not be much use.

 

Moonfall is ace. I'd position it just below Geostorm and above The Core in the "stupid science that makes no sense but who cares anyway" league. It's Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, Day After Tomorrow, 2012 etc.), you know what you're getting, and it's mighty entertaining on its own merits. If your expectations are adjusted accordingly, it's brilliant fun.

The Lost City (Cinema)

 

 

Widowed romance novelist Loretta Sage (Sandra Bullock) is depressed and in a rut. Forced to promote her new book with himbo cover model Alan (Channing Tatum) she finds herself kidnapped by a mad billionaire (Daniel Radcliffe) who thinks that she will be able to help him find the actual "Crown of Fire" featured in her book so that he will finally get one over on his brother. Luckily(?) Alan is determined to prove that he's more than just a pretty face and sets out to rescue her.

 

This is basically "Uncharting the Stone", but it's a fun watch. Probably not a cinema-worthy one, though.

Took my son to see Sonic 2 the other week. Like the first one, it was good fun, only marred by our row being full of sugered up 8 year olds.

I promised my son the next time we go to the cinema we'll take in an evening showing. TBH, it had already been out a couple of weeks and was on it's last week in the smaller screen at the local Vue and I thought it would have been a lot quieter.

The Batman (Various PPV)

 

Enjoyed this more than I was expecting, though I did find my eyes closing a couple of times during its almost 3 hour runtime. I blame the dark, almost black and white, colour palette. It was as dour as the trailers suggested (with a bit of hope at the end) but somehow not too depressing. Glad I didn't bother going to the cinema for it, but I am interested in the forthcoming sequel.

Uncharted. Probably one of the better computer games to movie adaptations. An enjoyable watch with some fun video game elements.

The Misfits (Amazon Prime)

 

Master thief Pierce Brosnan is recruited by a band of "Robin Hood" thieves to help them steal a cache of gold from a terrorist organisation.

 

Imagine "Leverage" with a bigger budget and less interesting characters and you've basically got this movie. Not truly awful, but I'm sure you could find better movies on Amazon to occupy your evening.

Raimi's style shines through which does seem a bit.. dated (soz) but the horror part of it was great.

Quite funny, but not as funny as it could have been. Plus it wants to criticise sexualised dance moves for teens, but mounts a number of such dances. Also, a question for secondary school geeks: Are teenagers these days really as accepting of people as the media likes to make out?

A young Dominican woman (Ana de Armas) in New York witnesses what appears to be a miracle in the subway. Meanwhile, a cop (Keanu Reeves) investigates the murder of his corrupt partner.

 

Keanu and Ana - how did I miss this one? I wish I had! The two strands do connect but when you work out how/it's revealed, it doesn't make a lot of sense. Plus Keanu looks like he'd just had a Polyfilla job before filming.

I heard a review about that a couple of weeks ago and it caught my interest. I'll see if it's playing locally over half-term.

Saw this last night, and was blown away. It's so very hard to describe, but 'bonkers' seems to be the best word.

Not as bad as I expected but, despite some occasional flashes of nice imagery, doesn't make a lot of sense and seems primarily designed to set up a later team-up movie.

Saw Dr Strange 2 at t'cinema last night. I don't understand how it's rated 12A and not 15, frankly: it's a bloody horror film (pun intended). They've actually let Sam Raimi direct it as a Sam Raimi film. Don't go with your kids, there are people being killed in gruesome ways and some proper demonic CGI going on that will give any kid under 12 nightmares.

 

Some great set pieces and fantastic imagery, and some fun + nerdy cameos and references. You absolutely and completely need to have seen Wandavision before watching this, as the film essentially uses that as its establishing half-hour and instead skips straight into the all out action. It's fast paced from the off. Enjoyed it, but goodness me, prepare yourself for its tone.

To be fair, movie ratings seem to have changed a fair bit over the past few years. There have been a few films with 15 ratings that I'm amazed aren't 18. But then, do people pay attention to this anymore once their kids are teenagers?

 

Back on topic, watched Ghostbusters: Afterlife (Sky)

 

Generally enjoyed it; very nostalgic, and a little slow paced, but with it's heart in the right place. Would recommend.

M. Night Shyamalan's has various holiday makers introduced to a very special, very deadly, beach. Will they work out what is happening and manage to escape?

 

Fairly well made, but one of those movies that leaves way too many points unaddressed - like how come the rapper guy had been there so long without visible effect? Most of all, you will be wondering how no-one pointed out the actuality of the "new arrival" before the scene made it to film.

I see no one has said they have seen the new Top Gun movie yet. I'm off to see this Thursday with a bunch of freinds who all remember going to the cinema to see this the first film. Then retiring to a pub for some post-movie critique!
