Likewise saw Eternals, and had a bit of a hard time keeping Game of Thrones from my mind what with the actors and character names... never mind the last end credit scene.

 

Overall found it reasonable as a popcorn movie but nothing to rave about

The fight scenes featuring Ikaris towards the end had hideous CGI too. Stood out really bad.

Another great movie - I really enjoy this. It fits well with the TV show. I hope they make another movie.

 

Vera Farmiga who played Livia Soprano did a great job. The way she acted was just like how Livia was in the TV show.

Nobody (Sky Movies)

 

Finally got around to joining the club and watching this one. Really enjoyed it, and particularly approved of the fact that the fight scenes didn't go on and on and on. Well worth a look if you're after an action flick.

I liked Nobody, but it did get a bit silly towards the end. I liked the quiet man taking a stand bit, but it turned into gun-porn war which was too John Wick for the overall theme.

How I Became a Superhero (Netflix)

 

Swears in subtitles (and audio if you speak French).

 

 

In a world much like ours a few people have superpowers. Most use them for fame, but some have used them to fight crime, while a surprisingly few use them to facilitate crime. A burnt out (but surprisingly neither alcoholic nor divorced) detective whose job is to deal with the heroes and villains is assigned a new partner just as a new drug hits the streets of Paris. A drug that bestows superpowers on its users.

 

Surprisingly decent movie. Nice to see a superhero tale where the stakes aren't the fate of the planet/universe. Not a must see, but worth a look if the trailer piques your interest.

Recently went back to the 90's and watched Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels. Got to say I enjoyed it as much this time around as I did the first time.

Barb and Star Go To Vista del Mar (Sky Movies)

 

Two middle-aged women decide to break out of their sedate lives and go on holiday to Vista del Mar in Florida, but they soon find themselves embroiled in a plot by a madwoman who wants her revenge against the town.

 

The trailer doesn't really sell this, as it concentrates on the interplay between the two leads whose characters are pretty marmite. It is, however, a lot more bizarre than you'd expect. We actually thought we'd started the wrong film after the credit sequence of a paperboy on his rounds lip-synching to a pop song ended and we saw his next job. The best way I can describe it is probably only going to make sense to older members or those well versed in the history of media consumption: It's like one of those films that you kept passing over at the video shop because, while it had people you liked it it, the trailer looked rubbish. Then you put it on after a few drinks and had your mind blown.

 

Put it another way, this is what happens after contract killer Jamie Dornan is given the brush off by his boss/crush.

 

 

I wouldn't give it a blanket recommendation, as I think it's a bit too odd for most, but some will love it.

Dune on Amazon. I see many others here liked it, but like a smaller group, it really didn't hit the sport for me. The other household watchers were equally under-whelmed. I think the slow start was an issue, but also the overly soft speaking early on meant that any minor audience (of 5!) noise meant the speaking was lost. We rarely pay the £14 rate for a movie in, so overall quite disappointed.

Watched Matrix 4... I've seen worse films but honestly it just feels like a low budget knock off version/parody of the matrix.

 

Storyline is meh, CGI and visuals are pretty terrible for a lot of it, fight scenes are pretty poor and the writing is fairly sub standard as well. If you have ever watched a late night B Movie film on the Sci-Fi channel, one of those low budget copies of a more well known film, that's what Matrix 4 is.

Spiderman: No Way Home (Cinema)

 

With his life, and that of his friends, ruined by Mysterio's revelation of his secret identity at the end of the last film, Peter Parker turns to Doctor Strange for help. Unfortunately the spell goes awry and villains from his previous incarnations are brought to our reality.

 

Loved the plot and the detail (the villains' themes from the previous movies even came into play) and the film had quite an emotional heft. Probably works best if you have seen all the Sony Spiderman films, though.

Marry Me (Cinema)

 

 

This year's "Valentine Day" movie has J Lo as a pop star who lives her life on social media. When her planned live-streamed wedding is scuppered by the revelation that her husband-to-be has been cheating, she ends up marrying Owen Wilson, who is at the gig reluctantly, instead. Will they actually fall in love?

 

Totally predictable (mild spoilers) with the third act Insurmountable Problem and even an Airport Dash - yet it's still entertaining. J Lo somehow makes a character that I'd normally find vacuous and shallow likeable and by the end you're rooting for the expected conclusion.

 

Music is pants, though. I'm hoping that the "Nun" number at the beginning of the wedding/gig was supposed to be a spoof.

Death on the Nile - 6/10

Similar to the first film, Murder on the Orient Express, it was a fun film to watch, though with how good Knives Out was, it felt a little lacking. There's a back story to Poirot and it's easy to foget that Armie Hammer is in the film, since he's not in any of the posters or trailers (he's now problematic, accused of abuse).

After a car accident leaves his partner dead during a tour of rural Greece, Beckett (John David Washington) finds himself the target of the local police and others who want to kill him. But why?

 

So-so thriller. It's initially refreshing to have a protagonist who is an everyman, but it turns out to not be that exciting for a whole film.

Spider-Man: No Way Home. Loved it! Bring on more! Can't wait for the next Doctor Strange film and everything that will do to the MCU. Enjoyed the mid credit scene too.
