Damon Wayons Jr is a guy who wants to sue the eponymous dating agency for breach of contract as they claim that 1000 dates is the maximum anyone needs before the agency gets them a match. She thinks he's a chancer who is looking to use the clause for a quick buck, but she needs his money. He thinks she's an uptight workaholic, but she's been recommended as the only person who will be able to prove that the agency is giving people false hope. You think, "I know how they'll feel about each other before the end of this movie". The ladies of the house had this on the wishlist and I was feeling a bit rough, so thought I'd not miss much if I fell asleep. As it happens, it kept me awake and entertained. If you are obliged to watch a romcom you could do worse.

LeMarchand Posted October 15, 2020 Author Posted October 15, 2020 Bloodshot Vin Diesel plays a marine who, after a successful hostage rescue, is captured and forced to watch as his girlfriend is killed and then... wakes up in a high tech unit to find that he has been killed and rebuilt with nanites (and has pretty much become a super-strong, invincible superhero with wicked net access) but can't remember his past. When it comes back to him he sets off on a mission of revenge. Not as bad as the trailer makes it look (though the trailer gives way too much away) but not a "why didn't I see this at the cinema?" one either. Some of it doesn't stand up to too much analysis and it's curious how some of the cast are doing accents that aren't their own for no particularly good reason (and the less said about the scenes set in "London", the better). May have been distracted by the very pretty lady (Eiza González) who Vin meets in the facility.

Number of European style number plates in "Surrey" was comical. I must admit it wasn't as good as I was hoping so glad I waited for it to be free on Sky instead of getting it via Amazon like I was tempted a few months ago. Did kill a couple of hours though

Number of European style number plates in "Surrey" was comical. I'm not familiar with Surrey, but did think that landscape the mansion was set in looked far too expansive for the UK. Someone on the production did decide to blur out some of the plates as a disguise, but didn't realise that UK cops don't ride around with automatic rifles ready to grab. I'm also pretty sure that flour dust is highly flammable.

The police cars appeared to be American Chevrolet cars with British style reflective coverings and what looked like Spanish number plates on them. The windscreens were blacked out, presumably so that you couldn't see the steering wheel was in the wrong place

Not the most amazing of films but not as bad as I was expecting either. Also you cant really complain too much when you get Jason Momoa, Henry Cavil and Gal Godot on the screen at the same time.

LeMarchand Posted October 18, 2020 Author Posted October 18, 2020 Mulan (2020) Disney's latest live-action remake of one of their animated classics takes the "Cinderella" rather than the "Beauty and the Beast" route - same story, but not a musical. There are hints of "Reflection" on the soundtrack, and two versions over the end credits - one by Christina Aguilera (possibly the same one from the original - not a patch on the Lea Salonga version) and one in Chinese by star Yifei Liu plus a couple of lines from "I'll Make A Man Out Of You" make it to the dialogue. Plus original Mulan Ming-Na Wen has a small part - I only recognised her by her voice as she was buried under make-up. I really wanted to love this film but, maybe because I was exhausted, I merely "liked" it but can't quantify why. As an aside, it's interesting that there's one Arabic looking guy as a Silk Road trader near the beginning but, as the movie is set in 15th Century China, the rest of the cast look like they're from the far east; no need to plop a few white/black/non-Chinese faces to stave off accusations of racism. Also, star Yifei Liu is in her thirties but looks a good ten years younger!

It was quite good, some good jokes and pop culture references; having drug manufacturers called Woolter and Jesse made me laugh and so did some of the other jokes like the in-universe band and movie names At times is was maybe a bit heavy on the moralising but no worse than any other Disney film I guess.

Nowhere near as bad as the vitriol it received would suggest, but not one I'd urge you all to watch NOW! Almost didn't recognise Doctor Who's Osgood (Ingrid Oliver) playing one of Anne Hathaway's team.

In the 50s(?) a young British reporter (William "High King Peter of Narnia" Moseley) working in the States is sent to an incredibly unracist Mississippi to investigate the miracle "mermaid water" (yeah, I wondered about that too) that is allegedly curing all sorts of ailments - and might help the young niece that he cares for. When they arrive at the circus that sells the miracle water they find what appears to be a real mermaid in the shape of Poppy "Princess Corset of Shannara" Drayton... Possibly OK for young 'uns who don't mind stuff that is a slight step up from "Children's Film Foundation" level, otherwise you'd have to be a pretty big fan of one of the two main leads to want to watch this - unless you want to try to figure out what possessed Gina Gershon to be in this. A bit of research leads me to suspect that the producer, who also "acts" as the bad guy, has a rich daddy who's keeping his son happy.

Mrs Poole hadn't seen any of the movies and as she generally falls asleep within 30 mins of any movie starting I felt the action would keep her awake. It worked, we saw each film on consecutive days. You know what your getting with John Wick, lots of action and killing (299 he killed over the 3 movies according to Google). We enjoyed.
Jawloms Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 I watched "Terminator: Dark Fate" for the first time a couple of nights ago, or "What Terminator 3 should have been". Thoroughly enjoyed it, although wasn't entirely convinced on the idea of a model 101 developing a conscience! Suppose as it is AI it could do? "And I'm really funny" made me laugh probably more than it should.
