Shadow of a Doubt, early Hitchcock film, what do you do when you come to suspect the uncle you're named after is a serial killer?
CHiLL Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 The Invisible Man - 7/10 A Blumhouse remake of the H. G. Wells novel. It was a pretty decent film, though it's been a week since I saw it and forgot to post here. It's a decent thriller, though it's kind of predictable.

That said, there were a few laughs from both of them.

Rian Johnson is probably a must-watch writer/director for me now after this, Last Jedi and Looper. Daniel Craig's American accent is truly atrocious, though. Finally, revenge for Dick van Dyke! Jojo Rabbit is just as brilliant and clever, although in a different way. Hits some real notes of pathos and tragedy, but maintains its absurdity to the very end (the German Shepherds!)

It's not supposed to be a proper accent, it's a parody of other detectives like Poirot, and points to the fact that the character is acting as another character

This was actually a lot more fun than I was expecting, once you get over the difficulty of believing that the gorgeous Charlize would go for Seth Rogen, especially in the horrendous outfits he wears in this.

Springsteen's melodies soon inspire Javed to find his own voice and follow his dreams. Such a good film. Watched it on Amazon last night and it left us both thoroughly satisfied!

Norphy Posted March 29, 2020 Posted March 29, 2020 Hustle Apart from a couple of minor differences and a minor tweak to the ending, this was pretty much a shot by shot remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, except with female con artists instead of male. Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson gave pretty good performances but the film felt fairly pointless to be honest. It was done just as well, if not better, 30 years so. Why remake it at all?

If only because this is exactly the kind of person Howard Moon would dream himself to be if the Boosh was still on the telly.
Garacesh Posted March 31, 2020 Posted March 31, 2020 Gone Girl A very well written movie with a gripping plot and a great twist ending...... If it had ended halfway through. Unfortunately, the movie is 2+ hours long and at the halfway mark, the 'villain' (of sorts) has won. It would have been a bitter ending, it would have been an unfair ending (relating to the story and its characters), but it would have been an amazing point to end on. But they didn't. They spent the next half of the movie showing the 'villain's' plans going awry and them having to frantically adapt and jump from idea to idea. They lost a lot of the cold and calculated cruelty they had been built up to have, they were no longer twelve steps ahead and devolved into a panicked mess grasping at the closest idea. I can't help but feel like it ruined their character in the end, and as such, the second half of the movie was pretty hollow compared to the first.

Lake Bell (doing a rather good English accent) is mistaken by Simon Pegg as his blind date and decides to take a chance and go along with it. Really good if you like this sort of thing, though Lake Bell's bag seems to have Tardis like qualities, as it seems to fit numerous changes of outfit in it's seemingly small capacity.
LeMarchand Posted April 4, 2020 Author Posted April 4, 2020 Rocketman Musical biopic of Elton John. Enjoyed this more than I thought I would, as I'm not a fan of Elton's music. It's more of a musical (with song and dance numbers) than Bohemian Rhapsody and told from Elton's POV. Worth a look. 1

Monarch have uncovered what they think is "Monster Zero", but another group has their own agenda. Monsters all over the globe begin to converge, crushing everything in their path. Which monster will become the ruler of the Earth, and will humanity survive? I enjoyed this way more than I was expecting. It's good, dumb, fun. I am confused as to how the upcoming sequel "Kong vs Godzilla" will make sense in light of the ending, but then it's not the most logical of franchises.
