February is the month of love and so in keeping with the Valentine's spirit, on the 28th we are screening Clive Barker's Hellraiser. Come and see this story of illicit passion as Frank is torn between his brother's wife, Julia, and those 'friends' from his past who just won't let him go.

Guardians of the Tomb

 

aka 7 Guardians of the Tomb aka Nest. The latter title actually makes more sense than the other 2.

 

Chinese/Australian production with Li Bingbing (The Meg), Kellan Lutz (Twilight) and Kelsey Grammar, who appears to have contracted some sort of specific amnesia that has caused him to forget how to act. A group goes to rescue a missing exploration team that has been searching for a hidden tomb. Needless to say, bad things happen.

 

Might be OK as a post-pub film, but I hadn't had anywhere near enough to drink.

After I could hardly see "Solo" while others thought the light levels were fine, I found this article that suggests that the cinemas aren't doing what they should (and counterarguments that the studios should send prints that will work in "real world" conditions): “Solo” Theater Projection Problems Leaves Star Wars Fans in Dark | IndieWire . Anyway, I didn't find the film too dark - though agree about the story. I enjoyed it though.

The WHOLE film is how he becomes Venom, and the story is very different to the one in the comics (why?)

But hugely enjoyable - poor Tom Hardy spent most of the film looking dreadful (am I allows to say he's still gorgeous though?)

A young autistic woman (Dakota Fanning) leaves her care home, determined to deliver her Star Trek script to Paramount in time for a script-writing competition's deadline.

 

Quite a sweet little indie film that turned out to be much better than I was expecting. Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but possibly worth a look if you're in the mood for the sort of film where a character's big moment is pushing past someone. Avoid the trailer, which gives away most of the plot.

Exit Through the Gift Shop - Banksy's supposed street-art "documentary" about a guy who was making a street-art "documentary"...supposedly.

 

 

Regardless of how much of it is based on fact, it's a highly entertaining film. Definitely worth watching if you haven't seen it before. And if you have... it's definitely worth watching again.

La La Land, I liked the way it was filmed and the style they were going for was cool, the story seemed really weak though, he wants to play jazz she wants to be an actress they go separate ways and both end up happy.

Watched Jurassic World : Fallen Kingdom.

 

I thought it has some slightly annoying/mediocre parts in it. But overall not a bad sequel as far as sequels go.

 

 

Also, watched the Neverending story 2 with the family this weekend. I don't know why but I had kind of forgotten about it was getting it mixed up with the Neverending story 3, though the youngest seemed to enjoy it.

My Father and My Son, Turkish film about a man trying to reconcile with his family for the sake of his son, good, reminds me a little of Pan's Labyrinth, The Fall, with the son's fantasy imaginings, although that's more of a minor part of the film.

I loved it. Yes it's daft, and a bit bonkers - but I love Rowan Atkinson and this character is just about believable, unlike Mr Bean, who I cannot stand

Psycho with split personalities kidnaps 3 teenage girls. Is he "just" mental? Or is he something more?

 

Finally caught up with this. Was really enjoying it up until the end, when I was left wondering what the hell all the flashbacks for the Casey character were in aid of as I was expecting some "surprise" revelation. I guess that stuff might get followed up on in the sequel, but it was weird not to get a resolution in this film. Also, Denis's OCD seemed like a flimsy excuse to get the girls to strip down to their smalls, though I noticed that the best-known actress was handily wearing many layers. Would've been an 8/10 if it hadn't been for the lack of resolution for the flashbacks. 7/10.

The Meg - I laughed at the absurdety of Jason Stratham spearing the thing to death. Enjoyed the movie tho'.

Johnny English - yes hillarious. I must have been in the right mood. Would watch again.

First Man - the most boring movie I've ever seen I think

A star is born - such a letdown after the trailor. No story at all. Should've walked out.

Saw the new Jumanji film and I had very low expectations for it. I am glad to say that I was pleasantly surprised overall. Not as good as the original mind you, but decent enough.... although the ending was a but meh.

 

Finally got the Missus to watch Deadpool last night. I saw it when it first came out but she couldn't. But she rated it highly and I loved it even the 2nd time round. Now we can finally watch Deadpool 2!

My son just watched Smallfoot earlier in the week, said he really enjoyed it.

 

I myself watched a pretty odd one last night. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

It was a pretty silly film, but it had some chuckelsome moments in it. As far as Zombie movies go it wasn't the worst one I have ever seen, but not the best one either. A surprisingly good cast as well for some parts. I noticed a few GOT faces in there.
