Ant Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Just to let you know Reseller said licenses been authorised by MS, so now just the wait That's 300 faculty with only 83 FTE Steve Thank you for this Steve. Our supplier has been great going backwards and forwards to MS for me. Hasn't been straight forward with some info differing to what we expected. Our order has been place but yet to be authorised by Microsoft though.

We purchase our licensing via our LA so all I need to do is ask them to raise an order and add these order no's above to our current EES agreement?
jimmckenna Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 (edited) Hi, Can anybody advise me on the screen print. My O365 is set up and all aspects seem to be working mail, calendar and the ability to download the software as offered etc etc. Just trying to work out what is going on with the various options that seem to be stuck at "Setting up" against Word, Excel. Powerpoint & the cloud at login. The few test accounts that I have tried are getting this when they log into the portal. Not sure what it is trying to set up? Office is installed on the PC. Any advice gratefully received!! CheersO365setuperror.docx Edited December 15, 2014 by jimmckenna
Boredguy Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Looks like Microsoft are still provisioning your SharePoint area for that user 1
jimmckenna Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Thanks for the quick reply. I have tried that with three test accounts and all have the same message. Is it worth contacting Microsoft? Cheers!!

Can't help with your problem, but thought I'd add I've had some great service from Microsoft support when we had an issue with address book policies and O365, so they should be able advise. 1

garethEds Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 (edited) I've managed to find the Student version in our licensing centre. I've activated it and have managed to get into the O365 portal. However the only versions listed there are for Tablet and Phone. There is no PC version to allocate to the kids. This is what I am concerned about... We do not have an O365 tenancy so I have setup a temporary one using the details MS suggested .onmicrosoft.com This has worked. However if I want the pupils and staff to self register then this isn't the email domain they use. They have @yggwyr.swansea.sch.uk . This domain name is registered with our LEA and they host our email. Is it possible to setup this domain name with O365 but not have the email component? We do the same with Google for Education (all the services but no email). I've asked the LEA to add the TXT record to our DNS - but again am concerned that our email will break. My Supplier is looking at the Faculty offering. Also - (sorry) - what address do the pupils go to when self registering? I assume this can only be done when the DNS is changed and MS recognise our official school domain. Any further advice welcome. I thank you [Edit: Okay - I've managed to add myself a license and the software has appeared. However - the self registration is now a problem] Gareth Edited December 16, 2014 by garethedmondson
synaesthesia Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Have a chat with suppliers. We (well, @tekins) went through Phoenix and mentioned we have our office 365 via our EES, yet our email is provided by our Academy sponsors, so two different o365 setups. On signing up for proplus it asks for an organizational account, put in our usual academy provided account and off it went. The proplus licenses all appeared in our normal academy provided 365 account. We suspect Phoenix would have had to tweak something for that to happen, they're normally damngood at sorting those things out for us.

At the moment it looks like I will have to add all 800 pupils :-( - Not a good idea. GJE
tekins Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Not sure if this will help you at all Gareth, but... We use the Office 365 admin portal to assign email and or Office 365 licences, we have 2 email accounts linked with our 365, a schoolname-school.net and a schoolname.county.sch.uk, these are set in the AD Attribute Proxy Addresses, synched with 365 via synchronisation service manager. When a student logs on, they get offered the chance to install Office (if we assign the proplus licence) on whatever device they are using. Not sure whether this would work alongside Google for Education though. If we try to use this website: https://products.office.com/en-us/student/office-in-education they we get "we can't verify your school is on our list of eligible institutions. ". But that doesn't matter to us.
garethEds Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 @tekins : Yes that's good thanks. We've registered our domain now with MS. The TXT record has been added to our LEA hosted DNS and it has been verified. However we do not have ADFS in place yet. So based on what you say it looks like I need to setup every user individually as O365 will not see our AD at the moment. It will when the LEA finish their testing but that could be a while off. We get the same error message on that site too. Still waiting for the Faculty download to be setup. Gutted there is no self-enrolement at the moment.
Sam_Brown Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 We use DIRSYNC instead of ADFS. It's a lot easier to get set up only instead of being a direct link what happens is every two hours it syncs our students (we select which OUs we want to sync) with O365 and updates the password online so they just log in with their usual school e-mail address..

Sounds interesting - do I need LEA Enterprise Admin to do this or can I just do it? Is it similar to the Google DirSync tool? ** Downloading now. **

But for what it's worth we have it installed on a member server here and the installation was fairly simple. Think we just pointed it at a domain controller, logged in with our O365 admin credentials and were well away. Only bit of configuring is selecting which OUs you want it to sync the users from. This post will save me rewriting the details of that. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/cloud-services/146853-security-groups-office-365-a.html#post1257576
garethEds Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 (edited) @Sam_Brown : Do we have to pay for AzureAD? Gareth [Edit: Panic over: http://azure.microsoft.com/en-gb/pricing/details/active-directory/] Edited December 16, 2014 by garethedmondson
Boredguy Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 To use DirSync, you don't have to pay for anything. It's just a case of installing on a server, and then following the instructions to activate AD Synchronisation in https://portal.office.com/admin/default.aspx#ActiveUsersPage
Sam_Brown Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 DirSync doesn't cost anything. I don't recall ever explicitly having to do anything with Azure to be honest. Everything was done in the background automatically. Only time I interacted with it was indirectly when using PowerShell to assign the licenses to the users. Brief run down of how we set our O365 up... * Created our O365 tenant \ account * Added domain and validated it * Installed dir sync and sync'd our students * Activated ProPlus licenses on the O365 tenant (you can "buy" the free student licenses right on O365 if you want to but they don't have as much functionality) * Used power shell to assign the licenses to the users and enable them. Hope this helps...
nicholab Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Azure premium is required for self service password reset. Wish ms would offer on it on EES.

Cache Posted December 17, 2014 Posted December 17, 2014 Azure premium is required for self service password reset. Wish ms would offer on it on EES. You can licence Azure through EES now if that helps?

Have checked firewalls etc etc but nothing seems to be going through. Frustrating today. I'm in a foul mood. GJE
