pantscat Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 We've got a shared office for the IT Support team, and then I've got a small office that I use when I need some peace and quiet - pretty lucky, I guess! Knock and enter for staff and students - main office is on a magnetic lock...
AJWhite1970 Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I live in a very large L shaped room sat in an open plan office in the middle, in front of me is one ICT lab of 35 PC's and to my right is another lab of 25 PC's. I share this space with my other technical member of staff and our desks are angled so our screens aren't visible to anyone in the labs. The servers are in a secure area in the same building with their own aircon, power etc so no noise issues from them. I actually enjoy being open plan, not only can I see and hear everything that's going on with regards to the teaching, but it makes supervising lunchtime open access a doddle. It also means we are very much front of house rather than shut away somewhere, lots of staff drop by and pupils can approach us if there are issues. I also have a second area in another building where I can go if I need somewhere quiet. I know I'm lucky in my working environment here, I've done my apprenticeship in windowless cupboards in my early years and can fully sympathise Andrew
DrPerceptron Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 We have an L shaped office that's probably narrower than a typical corridor - Kitchen worktop, swivel chairs and enough room to squeeze past. That's for 3 of us, plus a workbench we struggle to keep free of rubbish because we don't really have much storage (lots of boxes of stuff on shelves already) and then a server room of 4 racks (same width... creative thinking went into fitting 4 racks in there). I would more than happily share an office with another department, the rest of the IT department or anything if it meant I could have a decent amount of space to move around.
Nibiru Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Ive got a nice office next to our main staffroom. Just me in here, plenty of bench space for fixing wonky equipment, a whiteboard for scribbled notes, a big pinboard, and a nice window overlooking the central courtyard and the pond. Im lucky
hardtailstar Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 In one school I share an office with the bursar which is very handy for orders etc In my second school I share a desk with the family liaison officer in the main office as we are in the school when the other isnt. in my third school, its any desk i can get!
LincolnE Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 We've got an alright sized room for just the two of us. The door is left open all the time, so students knock and come in when they need something. The school also has a reprographics department downstairs though, so they handle most of the calls for printer paper and media support for us.
Crumpet Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 You don't know you're born you lot...an office pah! I get a bench in the corner of the library...and I am grateful for it... Mind you at the last place there were fourteen of us all huddled together...etc etc 😊 I can see this thread turning into The Four Yourkshiremen.
fairm010 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I have an "office" to myself. In reality it is the server room with the noisiest aircon unit ever! But full 42u rack with space next to it for my desk and testbenches.
DPrince Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Technicians share a large office/workroom. I have my own office in one corner. Server room in the opposite corner.
Zoom7000 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 At my previous school, I started out in a small corridor like office, that could only fit 2 people in our 3 people department. The school then gave us a converted girls toilet! Very spacious office indeed and we finally had some work space, cupboards and we could entertain visitors and guests! Now I'm back in a broom cupboard in my new roll!
Tall_Paul Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 We have a good sized office between the three of us, but I think it might be being put to another use shortly (jungle drums have been beating). Not sure where we'll end up to be honest, but it can't be a broom cupboard as we need a fair bit of space.
JRowley Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 There are 3 of us in an office built for 2, it has a door onto the corridor with the IT suites, and a second door into one of those IT suites complete with windows so we can see in for whatever reason. It's not big enough as we often have visitors and a work experience guy on Tuesday. Our servers are in a server room which was converted from 2 cupboard rooms in one of the IT suites. So yeah a bit snug, my deputy manager and manager are both in here with me so we basically all share the jobs around and swap work depending on each others expertise so its nice in that respect. I envy those of you in class rooms where you can work on hardware without dismantling your own setup first.
WithoutMotive Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 I used to have my own office in years gone by. Now, I'm in an office between two IT rooms with the rest of the ICT department. It isn't really an office because anyone and everyone can walk through. The one other technician I have resides in a cupboard. It used to be an office but is now our store cupboard with a desk. Sometimes, I forget he's in.
