When I was at school, my teacher (form tutor) was shot in the neck, with a real gun and real bullets... blood splurted everywhere!! Luckily he survived, the pupils that did it... Got sent down for 2 years!!

Even some of the rough parts of London with metal detectors on the door I wouldn't expect to see this. Just awful. :(

Just woundering if this is just a one off or a sign of what's to come, hopefully not. I know not all kids are bad and even few are that bad but is hard not to piant them all with the same brush some times.

Corpus is a feeder school to us. Just had an email confirming who it was from our head.

Got friends who live in Whinmoor, we used to live in a rough area but it had NOTHING on Whinmoor was like visiting Beirut, broken concrete everywhere, drug dealers all over, kids fighting in the streets parents coming out and instead of breaking it up armed them!!!! started beating each other with sticks bats etc whilst the parents cheered - WTF??!?!?!?!

I don't think it's fair to say "we" have come to anything. This student does not represent the majority.

 

Sad day for the school. My heart goes out to all affected.

Here's a bit of a rant for you guys if you can call it that. I find kids nowadays just aren't scared of staff anymore, I remember as a child in both Primary & Secondary school I was scared of doing something wrong as their would be bad consequences, heck we even got weeks detention if my top button wasn't done up, yet we have students here in year 6 wearing bright white Nike trainers! I think respect for teaching staff has deteriorated over the years, I had a year 6 child tell me to F off yesterday and all he's getting is a slap on the wrist (not literally, just a small telling off) if I'd of done that back in school I'd of got Suspended or chucked out no questions asked.

 

I think staff are now more scared of the children since all this rubbish around the fact we can't touch them or even shout at them as they could go off to the parents and say we are bullying them, it's ridiculous and children of today just don't know the consequences of their actions. If I was naughty in the street a police officer would and did slap me around the back of the head in front of friends and tell me not to do it again, god forbid if he was to do that now it's child abuse to the limit apparently.

 

I think laws need to be put in place to give authoritative people such as Police, Teachers etc.. more freedom to give out punishments, I'm not saying go back to caning or anything silly like that but the fact I'm not even allowed to make a child write out an A4 piece of paper of Lines is ridiculous. I find it's more so staff that are worried about the children and no longer is it the other way round, which not only damages their education but staff careers.

 

Parents play a big role too, I was also scared of doing anything otherwise if they told my dad I'd be in BIG trouble when I got home and that was worse then getting told off at school, but there's no discipline anymore from the parents only a fair few actually care if their child is doing something wrong at school, maybe if there was these scare factors you would find the kids would calm down and things like this would become less frequent.

 

Please understand these are my own views and this doesn't represent every student, member of staff or parent, just what I see as the majority. Things like this make me sick and my heart goes to the family, let's hope justice is served and he doesn't get a reduced sentence as he's under 18!

Yep when my Grandfathers friend was a teacher he had unhappy parent visit (massive Welsh miner kind of chap). After the teacher explained the situation the parent put little Joney across his lap and smacked him fully supporting the teacher. Would not happen today. The child involved sees lying down in the gutter with a bullet hole thorough his head as a carer option. Edited by nicholab

Here here...I believe I work in a school with a similar situation in the local area to the college in the news, and am a constant witness of abuse described by yourself.

There are a few bad apples and ofc it rubs off on some of the more easily influenced children.

 

Let's just say I am definitely going to think twice about confronting the next student who kicks my office door open, especially when the police are already called out on average 3 times a week.
