Retreads = no way Part worn? If from reputable dealer and price was right, Def yes. Imagine scenario of car park at roadside, bin lorry clouts it, insurance writes car off. They tyres have say 6 months use on them, why not there's nothing wrong with them. I think there are a lot if myths pushed about on part worns

[news] It's not just the law that's an ass!
Bananas replied to laserblazer's topic in Jokes/Interweb Things
My son had conjunctivitis the other day. In the words of the gp "highly contagious" phoned the school they checked the "book" and said conjunctivitis attend school. Took delight in telling them they need to administer refrigerated eyedrops every 2 hours At which point they said errr best keep him home then. Well perhaps if the child that brought it to the school in the first place had been "off" my boy wouldn't have had to suffer ffs -

This is disgusting, disgraceful for the school and the government who created this situation. Not content with creating meaningless league tables for schools (and hospitals) they then have this 100% attendance crap. You shouldn't be rewarded for doing what you're supposed to be doing. This is setting kids up to expect rewards for doing the bare minimum. Surely just turning up every day isn't a reason for a "bonus"? It's not far removed from bankers bonus. -
Malaysia Airlines MH17 Lost Over Ukraine - Shot Down?

So you think it'll be a fair vote then do you? That's a touch naive to be honest. The previous vote was universally condemned. Let's face it putin is the king of vote rigging (imho) Would you go to vote against Russia (effectively) knowing there would be a militia outside to intimidate. There is absolutely no way they would have a free & fair vote, not going to happen. In fact if there is one I'll bet they refuse to allow international observers in to monitor the vote. If it happens make no mistake it's enforced one way or the other, either by annexation (ie Crimea) or by vote rigging. The moment the leave the Ukraine vote is announced 20, 000 Russian troops will cross the border to "secure" the area. -

I think the question really is do the majority of people in the East want more ties with Russia? I don't believe they do, they boycotted the last elections. You could then end up with "unionists" fighting to reunite Ukraine. Potentially this has the makings of the east/West Germany split and that didn't go so well -

Those stats on survival are pretty accurate, as pointed out earlier a lot of aircraft "disasters" don't end up with you heading towards the ground at mach 3. Look at the BA crash in 2008 at Heathrow, the pilot just managed to get the plane over the perimeter fence before hitting the ground shearing the landing gear off and sliding to a halt. 100% survival rate. Try watching air crash investigation it's on one of the documentary channels. Really fascinating stuff, how they figure it all out. Even some of the big crashes you find 1 or 2 survivors sometimes. -
We just spent thousands on custom moodle and now the head of IT wants to use this, what a muppet. I wouldn't trust this until it's been around a few years I just don't trust Google not to pull it

Well yes that's the obvious answer lol, I suppose what I meant was what on earth did they think they were doing being so brazen about it and then getting violent. Really weird, drugs involved? -

Which lends credence to the thought that western leaders are too scared, re gas supplies to do anything -

Yes I think this is rapidly approaching the point of military intervention in the immediate area of the crash site. Airdrop special forces in to secure the perimeter then bring in the rest, as you say use the military of all affected countries. There's very few things that quickly unites politicians than intervening into securing a proper crash investigation -
^ pretty accurate. I think the Linux situation is pretty depressing. Was hoping that Linux would have made more progress by now, it's better than it was but it's just doing enough to knock Windows off its perch

I think anyone's personal view on it is as valid as anyone else's, I don't think anyone will start lobbing nukes about its not a huge stretch to see something like Ukraine heading towards another "cuba" In many ways this not being the cold war makes Russia more likely to keep doing what they're doing given what they've done so far putin can't back down or admit anything. The Ukrainians seem to claim to have conversations between Russian commanders and rebels almost admitting they shot it down. All heresay at the moment. We do know former USSR states in the area are cropping themselves, Poland especially are demanding more and more Nato troops. No one expected Germany to March across Europe. The rule with these things is expect anything. I'm sure there won't be nukes it's in no one's interest especially if Russia is attempting expansion they don't want contaminated land. It remains to see what they will hit Russia with over this but the warning shots need to stop and real sanctions need to bite. Of course a big chunk of Europe are crapping it because of becoming reliant on Russian gas which is a huge problem. What happens when the osce get in to the crash site proper will be interesting but seeing as it looks like the black boxes have been returned, which is a huge problem they like to recover them themselves so they can see how the crash site played out. Of course there are terrible stories that the site is compromised with bodies being removed with out authorisation and suitcases etc being looted. What's the betting that something critical will be missing from the site now. I've got no confidence with the investigation at the moment but I hope I'm wrong and they can along with the intelligence services provide irrefutable proof that Russia has been supplying these scumbags and training them on their operation. Russia is a lot more dangerous and ruthless than people realise, when you look into what happened in chechnya for example. One to watch but whatever putin is a problem... -

If Putin doesn't start behaving I can see this going up in everyone's faces. You've got Russia on one side heavily ensconced into Crimea and probably heavily fortified their positions. I can see the build up along the Polish border increasing with Nato forces and it'll only take Russia to get caught doing something like this again and I can see us wading in against Russia. Putin wants to rebuild the USSR he's not going to stop short of being forced to militarily -
I'm bored stupid with it at the moment BUT I realise this is down to the school and the idiot network manager among other things so perhaps if you feel like that maybe you need a new employer with a fresh challenge?

Or rebuild the school site using wordpress. WordPress (along with other cms) do a stunning job of serving up to mobile devices. To be honest unless we were doing a very big job wouldn't even dream of doing a site any other way. There's a nice app for wordpress to make it incredibly easy to update it on the move too. I sound like a right sad act but I can't big up wordpress enough. There's plugins to make it do anything you want to. You can set it up to automatically talk to social media, so say you post something on the website it'll automatically post about it on the Facebook page and/or tweet about it too.

I'm gobsmacked it's not made of a single piece of milled aluminium with a glass fascia

Is that the model with the extended storage option?

Get the 1440 I did. I didn't go for pixel density etc as the reason it just meant with those few extra lines of resolution you could get that little bit more on the screen at once. Got 2 IIyama monitors using a Geforce card and displayport works really well shame the CPU is a dog (Dell 380 with dual core pentium, ffs!!)

Weird, how about if you go Focus > Lesson Monitor > Deal with missing marks Call up his year group and see what it shows? Just double checked with a student that just left here and as expected Z after leaving date and normal lesson marks before. When the student was taken off roll was his attendance "fiddled" with? It's happened here before when people have back dated a leaving date after the student has been marked absent, staff members have the gone it deleted his attendance marks from current day back to his leaving date and then took him off the system. I have seen it where people screw the dates up before and delete attendance data and then take the student off roll effectively leaving them with missing marks.

Stupid question, you're not in the wrong academic year are you?
-
I suppose it depends on the school and teachers therein. Computer work in primaries seems a lot more hit and miss compared with secondary due to the lack of specialist teachers I suppose. Our 3d printer here doesn't get much use other than in "man parts waving competitions" I did 3D print a case for the Raspberry Pi's which worked rather well. If you have a good enthusiastic teacher you could get away with having one but for the majority I suspect it'd just sit there looking good when parents come to look round but never gets turned on category.

The trouble is "inaudible" fans is they are until they go wrong so I guess that's partly why people are asking, not so much the noise issue but it's a moving part it will fail at some point. Many moons ago school I went to was running really slowly, I did some digging and turned out they were running a middle school on 2 24 port Cisco HUBS!! What was even worse is the fans had failed on both of them and they were just sat on top of each other in the cabinet not mounted in the rack at all. When I took them out to have a look I actually burnt my hand on one
