I could still be around in 50 years As for the HS2 garbage only reason that's happening/not happening is we don't blooming need it. Government should have stuck the billions into building a huge FTTP program to every home in the UK and then once up and running privatise it to recoup as much of the money as possible. We'd then have been the world leaders in connectivity and we wouldn't need HS2 ripping up the countryside and devaluing peoples homes etc because it would make home working much more feasible. In fact you could have diversified call centres with people logging in from home to take calls reducing companies overheads and making it much easier for people with disabilities to work. But what the hell do I know i'm just a schmuck that pays their taxes...

I saw this and nearly wet my pants! Just think we "could" in our lifetimes successfully leave the solar system, it's incredibly exciting. Who knows maybe building a warp capable ship will attract the attention of a passing vessel and make first contact

Some fan sites have setup a just giving page for the charity Headway, a charity that supports those with head injuries. I've donated, least I felt I could do after all the laughs he's given me. https://www.headway.org.uk/news/rik-mayall.aspx

Say to them it may clearly state that but we're looking at our suppliers and we expect our suppliers to go above and beyond in these times of shrinking budgets etc so if you don't then we'll strike you off as one of our suppliers, see if they like that

I've often bought from the Canon factory outlet on ebay. Had some real bargains from them with full manufacturer warranty. In fact the 350D I bought from them back in the day developed a fault after 18 months, I had a chat with Canon who said send it to our repair place in Colchester and it was repaired and cleaned FOC even though technically they could have weaseled out of it and I didn't even have to ask. Repair came to about £180

Recommended ISP's and solutions
Bananas replied to speckytecky's topic in South West Grid for Learning (SWGfL)
Might be worth looking if you're quite close to the cab if an ISP can do FTTPOD (fibre to the premises on demand) only a few providers will sell it, it's not well known about and the costs are extortionate if you're a long way from the cab, it's worth a look if you're close though as you can get 330Mbps -
This is well worth a read, made me chuckle BBC News - Rik Mayall: His best lines

Have you manually run the provisioning script, when you provision new users in Sims it's not instant in SLG. There should be a shortcut on your server desktop to privision users instantly, try that. If it's not that are you putting the the full username in ie abcd.smithf?

Absolutely epic comedians both Rik and Ade. He'll be sorely missed absolute legend of a bloke, feel genuinely gutted at this news!

Year Roll Over - SIMS for me but not necessarily restricted to
Bananas replied to Stuart_C's topic in MIS Systems
I'll wager this is due to something similar to here. Email accounts are generated off the back of a data extract by Groupcall, this is then sent to county which automagically generates the student email accounts. It won't do it until the students start date is passed though. So even if you setup your new intake in July their email accounts wont be generated until say 5th September. I'll bet it's something along those lines and as DM there's NO WAY I would do this, it's quite frankly a disaster waiting to happen. I find in this situation the best defence is go ask Capita support the question when they come back saying no don't do it, you can go back to SLT and stick it under their noses and say can't be done... Found in the past if you just say no it doesn't work that way can't be done SLT slink off thinking it can be done and you're just being obstructive, hence the above solution. -
Motion activated CCTV it's the only way to go, since we put that in (at ICT teachers request) the incidents of stupid damage (keys swapped and usb/ps2 ports swapped round) has dropped to nil, it's even stopped them picking the Dell badges off the fronts and if you do have something happen you can identify the guilty party and bill the parents, that's what we do here bill goes home for replacement parts and our time at £30 an hour

IT office, do you share or have a dedicated room?
Bananas replied to benjaminstevens93's topic in How do you do....it?
As DM I have my own office, I'm moving in with the IT guys in September for me it's a huge pain because i find I'm easily distracted especially when I have a complicated task I don't want to do in front of me. It's nothing personal against the IT guys, also I know if they're both out I'm going to get dumped on too hence why I'm out asap. I can see both sides being all on one office with staff in/out could make you all more approachable. Whereas if you have your own office you have the space to work in peace. I'd prefer IT guys in their own office. -
After days of being harassed myself and the dep head left the school to get timetabling. After 4 hours we've got ks4 cracked and ks3 next week. Hurrah very pleased

Try hard setting the speed and duplex on the machine, if that doesn't work if it's on a managed switch set it on the switch too and see what happens
-
Yup no one should run one anywhere near delicate electronics like whiteboards or laptops

I've been using Android from almost the beginning and I've NEVER had any malware. It's the same as computers, if you're stupid and do stupid things you might get burnt. At least Android users aren't finding themselves locked out of their phones nor encountering imessage hijacking their sms messages if they change phone.

Our previous nm said that the ms licensing (forget the name the fte one) allows you to use everything. Reckon the school could be in for a shock lol

Cool just a bit aggrieved that he's nicking "my" Sims server to virtualise the rest of the school. Nah thinking about it at least if it blows up it's his problem not mine, i'll just go home and say call me when it's fixed LOL

Local company called Iceni here, can't fault them crazy cheap & will service printers for free too.

I THINK that just changing SQL versions will sort the single core issue out and that you shouldn't need to do anything else, but having said that i'd check with support as there maybe a procedure to follow
-
Out of curiousity do any of you run a virtual Sims server, if so on what hardware and what do you have allocated to the VM? Ta

I used to be veggie and eat quorn, quite like it but just recently ended up in hospital with severe stomach/intestinal pain turns out it was a reaction to Quorn. I still wouldn't touch a courgette tho.
