Our grades get effectively reduced to CLOP (current level of performance) with the subject and date appended En Aut CLOP for example, bit of a pain but once you get your acronyms sorted out it's not too much of a nuisance

I think in reason yes but if it's so wonderful why has the UK not got the lowest level of crime in the world, given we have the highest number of cameras per sq mile than any other country? In school use we've found them useful in that they're brilliant at catching people misbehaving such as the window cleaners that broke a desk and hid it or students pulling power leads out of PCs causing students to lose work but in the big bad world they're useful some of the time but what worries me is that some councils and police authorities seem to think that they're an alternative to actual policing especially given the ever reducing budgets at the moment.

Cheap if they last a few years this xc90 was still under warranty, which according to volvo doesn't include the xenon bulbs. Meh my 2010 cars bulb cost peanuts and can fit them in seconds was pleasantly surprised. The volvo, after an hour they were still fitting them. Love Volvos tbh had a few last was a top of the line 850 lovely car. Live the xc90s but too much to run for my tastes

Talking of Volvos was getting diesel yesterday down the local garage and saw a newish xc90 with the bonnet up. It's a manned station so was talking to the old boy on the pump, he said be grateful you don't have one of those (pointing at said xc90) He said just ordered a new xenon bulb for it..... £140 ex vat for a BULB!! I know they're supposed to last a long time but ffs....

I couldn't possibly condone fraud but there's a reasonable market for such things for people to then claim on their household insurance for a new one. Never done it myself nor woud I but i've heard about it. I guess that's why knackered stuff sells on ebay sometimes

If it were me teachers have their own laptops fine but i'd have a desktop in every room anyway it saves grief with: Damaged cables Whiteboard not working Projector not working (dual screens not setup) Calibrating whiteboards MIS software updates Stuff like that with one desktop in each room for a teacher you can manage everything then lock the machine down so they can't break it. I've tried the docking thing before and it doesn't end well and also you've then got to make sure every laptop is identical or at least fully compatible, if one gets damaged beyond economical repair and then that model is EOL you're screwed. So definitely desktops imho

Does Macromedia stuff actually work on 7? Gobsmacked We moved after 2 versions released but I suspect now we'll not buy it again. The only product I think is worth buy is the video editing one, I was sceptical about it but I am really impressed with it. The web one is just evil and should be banned

You know you hear of all the expensive cars being nicked and shipped out to Albania etc. I'm really surprised the thieves haven't opened up car washes, temp site bit of hoarding wait until you get an "ordered" car in then whack it in the back of a lorry or whatever and clear your kit up to the next location. Lot easier than breaking into peoples houses for the keys. Maybe I just missed out on being a criminal mastermind.....

Something created a ridiculously long file name for some reason in there? Or created a really deep file structure? Boot the server into a linux distro that can read NTFS something like UBCD and browse the folder structure in that area, look for anything obvious that windows would have a fit over and copy them off, see if that shows anything obvious

That's the trouble with short weekly etc visits, been there done that. It's going to be mighty tough to diagnose without being able to do some tests with it "frozen". Verrrry tricky one, good luck with it

Can I have a job at your school please Oh it's supposed to be shirt and tie but I often go without and no one has yet given me a telling off, I believe there is some EU equality ruling that stipulates you can't force men to wear ties because you don't force women to do so, or so i've been told in the past. So they can request you wear a tie and make life unpleasant over it but they can't discipline you for not wearing one. Might be wrong I took what was told to me at face value and never looked into it so YMMV but it's never caused me trouble. School hols, shorts and t-shirt

I just don't think anyone else now would be able to pull it off not to mention can you imagine the BBC commission The Young Ones now? That would never see the light of day in this era. Sadly I think brutal slapstick humour with a smattering of "low impact" swear words is a thing of the past, certainly for TV at any rate. I can't think of any comedian with the presence, charisma, timing and genius to manage to pull it off anyway. Rik was a comedy genius and so is Ade but together they were comedy giants the likes of which i'm sad to say we're unlikely to see again. Can't wait to introduce the kids to their stuff when they're older (they're 5,7 at the moment) funnily enough I was about that age when the young ones was broadcast and I watched some of it, didn't understand a lot obviously but I was subsequently banned after dropping You Utter (B word) whilst playing a computer game, much to my sadness. Depends on what tests you're buying, I think the ones being discussed are more aimed at unpicking which bits of your dna come from which bit of the world. It's more a genetic heritage test than a diagnostic test.

I'm assuming they are implying that there is no contention within their own network. Means absolutely stuff all in the real world if BT have under provisioned bandwidth to the cabinet/exchange/aggregation node/regional backhaul etc. FTTC is a locally contended product and it maybe that you're suffering if lots of other users on your PCP are spanking it or BT have stuffed something up or it could be related to crosstalk if there's a lot of lines activated in that PCP. Last time I was involved in a large scale broadband project including filtering and anti-virus after much fiddling around I proved the point to our transit provider (C+W) that the provided filtering and av appliances were struggling with the load and as a result they were effectively throttling the connection down before it even hit the ISPs internet connection. Removing the boxes from the data centre and having them local to each school in the chain solved the issue. If your provider are saying it's not them and then BT start claiming it's not them i'd be looking in that direction to make sure the filtering product is fast enough to keep up. This was many years ago now so it's probably not related given how much faster processors etc are but worth considering.

It's all theoretical rubbish though, to be fair a big chunk of the scientific community thought igniting an atom bomb would ignite our entire atmosphere killing everyone, didn't stop them doing so. Hell we don't even understand half the things we "think" we do so projecting science from a potentially unsound base could lead to all kinds of errors, we don't even know if the theoretical drive would even work in the first place let alone what high energy particles it may or may not give off when you turn it off. Start getting onto subjects like the multiverse and parallel realities which again are being speculated about, was watching one on the multiverse a few weeks ago and my eldest (7) was fascinated by it and kept talking and speculating about it for weeks afterwards. Gamma ray bursts are bloomin scary stuff, to give it a scale in a second one puts out more energy than our sun in its lifetime Anyway in order for a gamma ray burst to be dangerous to us, it would have to have originated from within our galaxy and as of now(?) there's not a candidate star close enough to kill us all, GRBs are also incredibly directional they're not like an explosion that radiates out they're very linear so we'd have to be phenomenally unlucky for the planet to be roasted by one. Again who knows we just don't know enough about them, how frequent they are, what really causes them, whether black holes even really exist (they could be wormholes for example). More questions than answers, just the way it should be
