Looking at, for budget reasons, replacing ageing teacher computers with USFF units and using existing Monitors, keyboards an mice

 

@VeryPC do one which I am getting a unit sent out to try which can have surprisingly good specs (upto i7 and 16gb ram, SSD etc) but just wondered if anyone has experience of using these any other suggestions, I have seen Dell, Lenovo and Viglen have them.

 

Any one used as a teacher classroom PC?

Currently got a Novatech PockIt i3 unit on eval. Its tiny and comes with Vesa bracket to mount on the back of the monitor. Coupled with a 120gb ssd it certainly is giving a similar desktop machine a run for its money.

 

Still playing at present but looks good.

They do some great refurb kit at good prices. I've just paid £100 each for some DC7900's and 19" tft's for £30 each

We have only Dell Optplex 790 & 7010's USSF PC's in school. They are used by everyone and are great. Very Very reliable, cannot recommend them enough.

We've had Fujitsu Q510's here in our library, which we've installed onto the back of monitors. Seems to be working well so far, with the only issues being the things falling off the back. (Extra long cable ties on order to help secure them)

I can give a thumbs up to the dc7900's - I bought about 200 of them a number of years ago.

 

The only issue is that the cable covers suffer from small child with itchy finger syndrome; oh yeah, and they came with ps2 mice and keyboards as standard!

Cheers for all the replies. Gives me something to go on. I have also had quotes on Zoostorm Usff units. Which are worth a look and Novatechs too. I like the 5 year warranties that are about

 

Also In 2 years of working with Very I've never had any issues, quite the opposite , always get back to me and offer various options.

You could check out some of the lower end units from Xi3 Xi3 Corporation | Modular Computers | PISTON Gaming Console | Green Computing

 

I've been testing these and they are excellent build quality (made in USA) and use a modular design that can be upgraded fairly easily. They are so designed to have an 8-10 year life span. They are also tiny and quiet with lots of USB ports and support for two monitors.

I have few different sets of USFF computers, newest ones are HP 8300 with separete ssd boot disk. I've been very happy with them. They hook on the back of the screen with screws so the students don't "drop" them and the back cover makes it harder to unhook the wires.

You can get a NUC for £120 from the BT shop (no OS though) perfect for a XBMC box.
