I have to change my car, a BMW 123d MSport 3 door for a bigger 4 door.

My current ideal is a 70k 530d (I want some fun still) I do 6k miles a year and would like something with a bit of warranty (even 12 months)

Anyone recommend any alternatives in the £13k area?

I'd say an Audi A5 (Yes I drive a Audi,so I'm an Audi fan), but think they'd a tad out of price range even the older ones! The 5 Series BMW is deffo a good shout!

My Honda civic is great I have the three door but the 5 door 2.2 litre Type R and yes you can have a lot of fun now around £13k to buy not bad plus it's a Honda.... Once you go jap you will never go back! Forgot to mention boot space is huge can fit all family in comfortably and is very practical!!!

With a VW underneath.

It all depends if you are a badge snob :p

with the vw based cars i know thats not a good think they break more than any brand i know including one 30 mins from new apparently they forgot to put an engine component in

For sheer reliability, Honda Accord estate. They are just lovely to drive (not fun, but comfortable) or a Saab TTID sportwagen (But, But TWO turbos!!!) and £35 a year to tax.

Nah, you gotta love a bit of the derv!

I've only got a Mondeo, but I still love the shove you get when the turbo kicks in. And somehow get a childish pleasure from the puff of black smoke that says you mean business!

Not to keen on the alpha's don't even think they look that pretty anymore just look like a souped up version of an old Fiat Punto! (My opinion though) and as @Oaktech said they are SOOOOO unreliable my dad had one from new and every 2months he was taking it back for a repair on something or other, hate the things with a passion he does!

Nope at only 6K a year it's probably a false economy.

I prefer power delivery that is consistent through the rev range rather than a dollop of boost halfway through ( I had a TDCI 130 Mondeo for a year ) .

I am actualy taking ownership of a Passat TDi on the weeeknd whilst I do some jobs on my S-Type, but at £175 it will pay for itself easily.

I was actualy at my garage this morning overhearing a conversation "the X3? Had to take the injectors out and send them for inspection" They get a large number of poorly high presure dervs through the door.

My 123d is a diesel, twin turbo for that matter... one of the best engines I have ever used. Hence why im considering the 530d even with my low mileage.

VW FTW I've tried others including testing a few BMWs and none were as nice as my VWs I've had. Something like a Golf GTD 170PS will be fun and practical or look at something like a Passat W12 :D

Ordered a new Skoda Octavia Estate on New Year's Eve as the dealer was doing an amazing offer on them. I was going to get the VRS but made the mistake of taking Mrs Teejay with me on the test drive so have ordered the 2l turbo diesel SE instead :p

Have to be careful with diesels if your doing low mileage, it would be a lot more fun and a lot better for the engine if you went for petrol if your only doing 6k miles a year

How about a Seat Exeo ST? It's an Audi A4 under the skin.

They have a decent spec and are relatively cheap! £11k will buy you this
