jjohnsoncantell Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 copied from a microsoftkb article DPAPI Environmental Considerations This section describes the environmental configurations that affect the behavior of DPAPI protection. DPAPI and Mandatory Profiles Mandatory profiles are read-only profiles. No updates that are made to the local copy of a mandatory profile are saved. For example, key generation is blocked in a mandatory profile. DPAPI stores the master key in the local copy of a profile and regularly creates new master keys and updates the encryption on the protected confidential information with the new master key. Because these two conditions are incompatible, programs that depend on DPAPI to help protect confidential information do not work correctly with mandatory profiles. Programs that help protect confidential information with DPAPI that do not work correctly with mandatory profiles include EFS (private keys), Certificates with Private Keys (private keys), and Stored Credentials in Windows XP and later (credentials). Configurations that use these data types or programs are not supported. How to troubleshoot the Data Protection API (DPAPI) - - - Updated - - - I know that my previous reply refers to windows xp but its still valid for win7
truebluesteve Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I'm having issues getting the test player to connect to the admin server. I'm sure I had the same issue last year when I set it up but I'm buggered if I can remember what the issue was. Anyone got any suggestions? Thanks
sippo Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 (edited) Having the crypto error with my installation too. Logged in with standard staff user, doesnt work. Logged in as local admin and it works fine. Here is why the cryptographic errors occur with mandatory profiles RSACryptoServiceProvider fails when used with mandatory profiles - Decrypt my World - Site Home - MSDN Blogs Seems the best way is a roaming profile as suggested by other users on this thread. Will investigate further. Did you get it working with mandatory profiles? Edited April 30, 2014 by sippo
jonspurs Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 For the 'upgrade', I didn't upgrade, but just uninstalled the old version and deployed the new MSIs. Will do a test of a test soon...
sippo Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 I contacted Pearson through their support portal and they are bl00dy useless. They gave me a contact link for edexcel but that doesn't work. linkazoid Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 I called 0844 463 2535 yesterday and they were quite helpful. It's just such a pain to have to visit every machine to configure it.
themightymrp Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 We ran our full live exam yesterday (Engineering) and it actually all worked!!! WOooo!!!
sippo Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 We have mandatory profiles here for staff and students, but now I am going to have to create some roaming ones for the software to work!
Sam_Brown Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Not the worst exam software I've ever had to use. That award goes to Promissor. But it's not the easiest either. My main issues have come from trying to explain to the Exams Officer how it works regarding the rooms \ invigilators etc.
WithoutMotive Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 We had our first exam with this software the other week and all went reasonably well. Good thing, too because their technical support (or support in general) is appalling. It's like the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing.
kevin_lane Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 just had our fist exam since the update of the software and I must say everything has been ok, sorry to hear that people have issue still, only thing that caught us out when first time using this software was the sequence invigilator first then the clients well that's how we do it, also has anyone came across this focus violation, im assuming its something to do with how the server and client monitor the session, any ideas
Boredguy Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 We have mandatory profiles here for staff and students, but now I am going to have to create some roaming ones for the software to work! We have mandatory profiles for our student and exam accounts, but looks like I might have to setup a roaming one for this software now that I've been told we need it for our PE B-Tec exam. However the lovely confirmation form I was given by the exams officer mentions about no other software running in the background. Anyone know if Impero or the likes actually causes it an issue before I have to start down the line of setting up a isolated batch of stations.
kevin_lane Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 really!! are you sure we have over 1400 pupils and they only use 1 mandatory profile we also use impero and that's fine I've done a test today with 45 pupils and all was fine
Boredguy Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 That's good news then @kevin_lane Means I shouldn't have to make any adjustments to the system
denzal2k4 Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 (edited) Recieved this little gem this morning: "Dear Colleague, As you will be aware, in March we requested that centres install the new version of POP (Pearson's Onscreen Platform) for the onscreen, on-demand tests in Sport. Despite extensive testing of the new software, there were three questions across all of our live tests which were affected by the software upgrade. Although this issue has now been fixed, for a short period of time this meant that a small number of learners one question could not be accessed. The affected question was worth one mark out of the 50 available marks. We have carried out a full analysis of the results for all affected learners and have provided one additional mark to all learners who had been disadvantaged. NQF BTEC Firsts in Sport | 20586E FA14114 FA14117 FA14120 FA14123 FA14128 Please note that if you applied for Special Consideration for any learners as a result of this issue, this email is confirmation of the fact that all affected learners have had special considerations applied where necessary. Regards, Onscreen Test Team" Edited June 4, 2014 by denzal2k4
JohnTech Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Our school has informed us that we have got to install this software. It would be handy for lost focus problem solving if you could post us the password for this, John
vortex999 Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I am dealing with this nightmare right now as well. I can get the services and the admin console to work fine. The invigilator however is a nightmare, it will let you log in and see the test students but it fails to contact the server when I run the testing tool. The test player also fails from the student machine to see the invigilator and the server. All firewalls disabled. Anyone seen this before?
themightymrp Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Did you specify the name of the invigilator machine during the install of the client? Is it on a different VLAN? I ask because our clients only seem to search the same IP subnet for the Invigilator machine - which is fine because I have a subnet per IT suite.

I tried specifying the name with the command line switch and testing it with the normal install, still fails.
themightymrp Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I assume you can ping the names of the invigilator/admin machines from the clients?
vortex999 Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 I assume you can ping the names of the invigilator/admin machines from the clients? Yep can ping both.
Sam_Brown Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Yeah no issues in running the exams. Just a pain you have to manually set up each client to point to the the invigilator computer. Although we just have it in one room at the moment so not a massive issue at the moment. We just have a single user account designed just for it and have that set up to point to the relevant invigilator account.
Markopolo Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Have you checked the event viewer on the server running the exam center service... under Windows Logs/Applications. We have the same issue as you, but for us it is an NTP problem. - - - Updated - - - Have you checked the event viewer on the server running the exam center service... under Windows Logs/Applications. kennysarmy Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I got caught by the issue with the proxy being entered with the slash as shown in the example in the documentation - luckily I found this thread and fixed the issue myself by editing the xml file on the server. I'd already emailed a screenshot of the "administrator dashboard" showing an error to Pearson and this was there reply! Thank you for your email. After looking at your screenshot I can see that your port 443 is definitely showing as blocked. You will need to speak to your local authority to open this port for you and to allow bi-directional access for this port to allow the programme to work in an out. Once they have opened this for you then you will be able to run this programme. - - - Updated - - - I got caught by the issue with the proxy being entered with the slash as shown in the example in the documentation - luckily I found this thread and fixed the issue myself by editing the xml file on the server.
