I've got the joy of installing this next week.

 

Wait another week. There is an update being sent out end of next week. Don't want you doing it twice!

We ran our first exam, mostly went ok, apart from the calculators not showing up on some of the machines, which doesn't really make sense... Just trying to do the update now.

I have just installed this lot AGAIN - another update means a complete re install on our RM Network (built a package for the TestPlayer as need to install to 22 computers at least). All seemed to go ok but I had to ignore the Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 install as RM says that if we install this then lots of our other software will not work - 2008 installed as default at moment by RM. After numerous emails and phone calls Pearson just don't have a clue about the real world out here. The last PE BTEC exam went ok with 2008 but am waiting to see if the ICT one works - who knows, no point in contacting Pearson.

Pearson say that this software is still under development - why put it out when not fully tested? However, they also say they are currently working on building a web or cloud based version of the testing sofware. Lets hope soon.

I have been putting this off until next week but I'm a bit concerned about requiring a new version of Visual C++. The only saving grace is that we only have it on a few PC's so a manual install wont take very long.

 

Online testing was supposed to be the way forward but having experienced several different flavours of it now, I'm firmly in favour of pen and paper!

The fun continues. We need to get this set up but it doesn't support hyper-v so you have to install the server part on a physical box. Quite a joke seeing as its exams software which is mission critical. Why not support visualization? If a host has a bad HD you can just move the vm. If the HD dies on a physical server your screwed for a lot longer. Does anybody have the server installed virtually or know if other hypervisors are supported?

I have it installed on a virtual Windows 2012 box using VSphere. Doesn't seem to have any problems with this setup.

 

Same here, apart from it was 2012 R2.

It's fine here on a VM. Pearson are telling you porkies, there is ABSOLUTELY no reason why something wouldn't work on a VM if it has no interaction with anything outside of the software layer (such as network drivers)

We run the Pearson server on vmware and they "supported" it (in the loosest possible sense).

 

As a beta test center (the POP software was an abortion last year) their tech guy came down to install it last year on VMware.

Yep Pearson have changed their minds. Virtual servers are supported as well as Server 2012. Maybe they are reading this thread. Or someone sent a tweet their way.

Having the crypto error with my installation too. Logged in with standard staff user, doesnt work. Logged in as local admin and it works fine.

Seems the best way is a roaming profile as suggested by other users on this thread. Will investigate further.
