Well finally @ 6:45 am today our first little baby, Rachael, arrived into a big new world.

 

Weighing in at 7lb 10oz and 10 days late she was born at home naturally with both mother and baby doing great with mum only being in labour for 5 1/2 hours in total.

 

I will post up some pictures when I have them but am feeling a little trashed at the moment as it has been a long day.

Excellent news :)

It's nice to see you had a home birth (both of ours were at home) as it is far less hassle and much more relaxing than going to hospital. I hope you enjoyed your last lie-in too. You won't get another for a few years ;)

Congrats ... just think, you will both be able to take a well earned rest ... in about 30 years time!

And how many babies have you given birth to then?

 

Calmer maybe, but I don't think childbirth (or trying to pass a large bowling ball through a very small space) could EVER be described as 'Relaxing'

You are putting me off childbirth now. I think I'll just let my wife do it instead, she'll probably be able to handle it better ... I can't multi-task anyway and having to think about breathing and pushing and not strangling the person that got me into that situation would be too much for me to handle.

Ihave to admit at no other time have I felt totally useless, there is nothing you can do....

 

I will agree on the relaxing part though as my other half can not really deal with hospitals and have it at home was her first choice it was close though as we were close to 14 days over and they were starting tomake comments about induction dates.

 

I think it was a far better experience having a home birth as you (the father to be) can be more involved towards the end however I have been told this is not really the case with births in hospital.

Our first was born in hospital - total nightmare! Made the Pre-Natal classes obsolete.. great advice by the local midwives was met with derision from the hospital midwives, who we're opinionless morons too scared of litigation. Labour went over 9 hours so wife was so high on gas as to be incoherant to the 2nd set of midwives. We knew what we had to do and the hospital just got in the way. Still, Ben was a big baby and my wife needed the assistance.

 

2nd child born at home was the extreme opposite, and over before it started it seemed. As a bloke you really are treated like a leper by midwives, but I felt I got one up on ours as I suggested that the membrane was still in place which it was, contrary to her opinion.
