Deploying proxy settings is the same for IE8, IE9, IE10 and IE11 as the same registry keys are used. I believe it's also the same multi-platform i.e. Windows XP, Vista and 7.

Quick update,

 

If you have the requirement for alternative proxies for different protocols, you can set the "ProxyServer" value to

 

http=proxy:8080;https=surfprotect.exa-networks.co.uk:3128;ftp=proxy:8080

 

or a variation to suit your network.

Am also having trouble getting the Bypass Check Box ticked, does anyone know which key this is controlled by?

The checkbox does not work so you need to add the local servers manually by name.

I've applied all above, I've removed the GPO and created a new one but am still having problems. I've set as above a GPP to set the proxy settings and it does turn up in the registry but when I try and go online it fails. if I set the information manually it works, and the manual settings appear in registry.

I tried EVERYTHING to get proxy settings and other settings working with IE10 and nothing worked.

 

I tried GPO's, scripts and reg keys and none of them worked.

 

In the end, I remade our Windows 7 images with IE9 and now it works perfectly. Atleast now it will buy me some time to look into it before trying the upgrade again.

 

It caused havoc as no-one could get onto the internet!

I had this problem, the school I work in works fine on IE9, as soon as we upgraded to IE10, proxy would not apply. Group policy doesn't work on IE10 and above in server 2008 r2, I have tested using server 2012 and the group policy applies fine. Microsoft haven't really thought about people who are still using server 2008 and older systems. You can use, WPAD by setting settings via DHCP and IIS, Using PAC settings. there are plenty of ways if you search google. But I would recommend staying with IE9, of everything works fine why bother changing it.

I recommend rolling back to IE9 too as everything works fine in IE9. We have Server 2012 on our DC and IE10 settings still don't work.

Ie10 works in our testing. Its all the 3rd party sites that have to work which will delay it. We had to setup a win 8.1 vm to manage the gpp. Then we have to press f5 to change the proxy setting to have a green underline.

Open the policy and navigate to: User Config > Preferences > Windows Settings > Registry

 

Copy the following screenshots, but just change the proxy name and exceptions as required

Now link the GPO and it should add proxy settings in for IE10

We tested the gpp internet settings. We had to setup a win 8.1 vm to manage it. It worked fine. We found you had to press f5 on some of the settings to enable them.

I must add after creating this registry setting it switched OFF the current proxy settings check box in the ie settings on machines that were working fine... Is this anything to do with the 'replace' option in the registry GPO?

Done a test in a room of 20 machines, to IE10 via WSUS, and the proxy stops applying.

So had crated a Proxy specific GPO

Set the IE10 GPP and still nothing for the proxy

Used the reg key system, and it worked, but the "Use proxy server setting became un-ticked"

So had to change the GPP to have the proxy ticked, and now it seems to work.

 

One question, how will this work in a mixed mode (IE9 and 10) till I roll over fully to IE10 ?

 

I take it the GPP still controls IE, just the reg key fixes that bit ?

If this is what you mean........ on the image below you will see the green lines and red lines if on your settings the lines are red it means it is not activated and will not apply the GPO. what you have to do is select the proxy and press F6 to turn it from red to green and it become activated. I had to do this on the proxy address and bypass proxy. gpupdate /force on server and client side and worked no problems.

Using my GPO method, it'll work for IE8, IE9, IE10 and IE11. They all share the same registry entries.

The proxy order is important, 1 proxyenable 2 proxyoverride 3 proxyserver

 

also stop using GPP internet settings, it's probably confusing things, if you look at the XML of the GPP IE settings you can see it does exactly what the registry settings do, just with less reliability.

Michael do you have a fix for setting home page ?

 

User Config > Admin Templates > Windows Components > Internet Explorer - Disable changing the home page settings - Enabled

 

Specify your URL and that's it.

Why use a homepage? I don't supply a link to IE anymore but instead a shortcut to my homepage, that opens IE.
