When this is applied would the staff be able to use there local account at home without proxy or will this set the proxy for all users including the local .\user?

It'll only work for domain logged in users. Not accounts that sign in locally whether they're at school or home.

I believe a proxy.pac file should be specified in the field above (Use automatic configuration script). If you enter the info in IE, you should be able to locate the entry in the registry. It'll all be in the same place

Create a new GPO called Proxy Settings (Registry) I call it.

 

Open the policy and navigate to: User Config > Preferences > Windows Settings > Registry

 

Copy the following screenshots, but just change the proxy name and exceptions as required

 

[ATTACH=CONFIG]19039[/ATTACH]

[ATTACH=CONFIG]19042[/ATTACH]

[ATTACH=CONFIG]19045[/ATTACH]

 

Now link the GPO and it should add proxy settings in for IE10

You'd specify the proxy.pac as illustrated in my picture:

 

 

If you enter the information into LAN Settings, you should then be able to search and copy it from the registry and deploy using GPP.

I forgot to mention, when you specify a proxy.pac file you don't need to enable proxy settings, specify the proxy name or its exceptions as of course the pac file contains everything required. Only the above regedit via GPP is needed (as I described above).

Got it working by redoing the gpp

 

Something about if you click on the advanced tab it messes things up

If anyone needs to set the homepage just create another Registry item for the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main and a REG_SZ value named Start Page then specify your homepage, works a treat

Man I'm stupid, and I'm having a hard time making this work with a pac file for my school district. Can anyone help me out with some baby steps for this? I'm running server2008r2 (I've unistalled ie10 on it) and I need my workstations win7 and win8 to pickup my pac file through group policy. I've tried doing the things mentioned on this thread, but I probably didn't do things correctly. I have verified that the policy is flowing to the workstations via gpresult. I'm banging my head here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. This is a useful thread with a good workaround. I was hoping I wasn't going to have to rely on a script to do this so GPP is a good compromise.
