Pearson Onscreen Platform - Someone help me before I go mad
AM369 replied to tmoon-mint's topic in Educational Software
We use the Classroom POP (LAN) version instead that uses the Administrator, Invigilator, and Test Student installs. Have been using it yearly and it is rather simple to install but again we've used it for btec sports for as long as I can remember. The Online version doesn't have a failsafe as it relies purely on internet so if a client loses connection, their test is lost. The LAN version has the failsafe of storing files on the computer that can be sent incase of internet loss hence we go with this version. -
Forname and Surname followed by the initials of the users base school in brackets e.g John Smith (SCH) We also have the job title field populated so you can see the role

Try and find out if it's a user or computer issue. Can you connect to the same printer from another account on the affected computer and does it connect for the affected account from another computer? Event viewer should give some hints to where the issue is.

Wondering how you set custom user profile pictures?

I'm looking to make some small but noticeable improvements school wide that showcases the business/professional look of the school. I've listed some ideas that came to mind below but if anyone has anything that has gone down well or can provide an existing implementation of such ideas that would be great. Any pros and cons feedback would also help. - School site showcase via drone footage to be displayed on a signage screen in reception - ambient music to be played in the reception area (where students, staff and visitors all enter) - upgrade the £30 webcams for key staff who are heavy on online meetings - cable trunking for areas where cables are on show (probably should be doing this already!) - plug socket covers to hide black plugs to be easier on the eyes (in offices and visitor areas rather than in classrooms) - Ambient back lighting for TVs such as Philips or GoVee light strips

Microsoft Planner for us. Helps keep track of our own jobs outside the Helpdesk. Added as a Tab in Teams and works great.

User Name Changes - Across multiple systems....
AM369 replied to pseudo's topic in How do you do....it?
Yes, our unique IDs are what staff and students use to sign in to emails\computers\printers etc with Staff get aliases with the firstname + surname format and these are what are often shared with external users or used in any other third party software that needs an email (that isn't SSO). Students dont get an alias and they remain with their unique ID email format to make it easier. -
Speech recognition software for access arrangements

Built-in Windows dictation with a pair of over ear headphones and mic. Does surprisingly well and easy for students to enable at will. -
User Name Changes - Across multiple systems....

Our accounts are synced from AD so alias gets added as a proxy address attribute. Although now that I think about it, we did undergo a domain migration a few years back so we got a chance to tidy this and remove unused alias and emails. -

We use initials to form UPNs and then have a first name + surname format added as an alias. Name changes then result in additional aliases. Procedure is typically a change by HR to our MIS after which we're informed to update as needed. Systems that don't auto update often remain unchanged unless we're asked -
Cambridge Assessment Admissions Testing is the account. Having some issues as others with it jist not loading. Help!

We used to run into this issue though we've only installed the machine wide installer on staff and teaching pcs. Students use Teams through the browser only (automatically opens on a new tab) to avoid the updating issue. For staff, we've added the installer/updater to an accessible location with the instructions of if you ever need to update Teams, run this, wait 2 minutes and try again. (Or rather we double click on it for them). We then update the machine wide installer through GPO every month just in case.

Though we've not used it ourselves, using coloured circle stickers to place in the corner of a laptop is a good indicator. Green to say ready to use, amber needs fixing, red ootb etc. We tend to organise by location i.e stack of laptops on against one wall are ready to go and ones stacked in another corner need to be prepped. We find we always start off with organised areas but after a while of using and new equipment arriving space seems to be more valuable

In the first scenario, I assume the the VGA monitor works fine when the HDMI is unplugged from the PC? Try using a lower resolution in case the TV decides to become the primary monitor which the VGA monitor doesn't like Second scenario try using shorter cables as a test before lengthening to your desired setup to see if it's a cable issue

Is it possible to move folders in Teams?
AM369 replied to cheaptonersucks's topic in Office Software
Open the destination site in SharePoint and hit the 'Follow' star shape button. Then head back to the folder you want to move and give it a try, your followed site should the appear at the top of the selection -
+1 for HueHD. Bought over 150 since start the of lockdown. Plug and play working with any software like Camera app and Teams for us. Occasional issues where you might need to disconnect and reseat connection points but can't complain really.

Corporate lock screen with logo but just a solid black desktop wallpaper otherwise. Less hassle with too many frequent requests to change the walllpaper on a weekly basis and users saying they can't yet see the new background.

Been using Freshdesk for our IT, Site and Reprographics teams for around 3 years now. Its clean and easy to set up and use. Compatible with 365 SSO also.

We've gone down the route of making the Lobby mandatory and then training users on what might be unusual names or double students (one imposter). You could also change your students profile pictures to their MIS picture or school logo. As far as I know, guests have the default 'initials' logo and external address probably have this too. A combination of the above should give teachers a ground to stand on when it comes to idenitify who should and shouldn't be allowed.
