Effectively for us it works as a slight uplift, when factoring in the A3 covers practically everything we've needed the existing licences for. And not replacing the EOL servers. Now that the full fat Office licences for staff home devices have also been pulled it's also added to the incentive of A3, conditional access is also a big factor.

Most of our customers are with Smoothwall at the moment, which has worked well however the reporting aspect I think needs significant improvement. The instant alerts via email went down very well with some of our heads. Since the KCISE changes we've partnered with Content Keeper and are much more impressed with its reporting functionality. I'm very glad to have now got rid of Netsweeper and ISP provided filtering solutions across all of our customers.

Unfortunately one of our schools was instructed by their trust to install, we strongly advised against but ultimately had to install it. Have to say it's pretty rubbish, even ignoring the 'possible' security risks. Its just a syslog server with a 90's web interface, noticed that my session was still logged in from the last time I connected several months ago! It hasn't uncovered anything ground-breaking as of yet, just that the firewall is blocking ports.

We have a cluster of 84 505s and 565s working well. Same as above, so long as all models support the same firmware build you should be OK. Also a few newer clusters of 615s (70 APs) and 515s (40APS) all working great. Only one we're using with Aruba Central.

L Shaped desk I suppose would be one option, so then one side touches the wall with the board on. Or a pipe through the ceiling tiles through a hole in the desk to feed the cables through (something like a white 40mm waste pipe) We've had to use optical HDMI cables for these sorts of rooms as the copper just can't run the distance.

Going back to this thread: /forums/hardware/233102-spec-primary-pupil-laptops-2.html I gather that the EDU Volume licence includes the 'upgrade' from home to Pro. So Licensing wise I think you're OK. Just thought the digital licence would be a blocker but sounds like it works fine.

I don't think putting a GVLK would do this. Windows Education requirements A supported version of Windows Pro Education installed on the devices to be upgraded. A device with a Windows Pro Education digital license. You can confirm this information in Settings > Update & Security > Activation. The Education tenant must have an active subscription to Microsoft 365 with a Windows Enterprise license, or a Windows Enterprise or Education subscription. Devices must be Microsoft Entra joined or Microsoft Entra hybrid joined. Workgroup-joined or Microsoft Entra registered devices aren't supported.

Currently the pain of my life. We're dealing with the most vandalism I've seen in any of the secondaries I've worked at. 7 broken keyboards from one cover lesson the other day. No cameras in the IT suites currently which I am trying to push the school for. SLT want to bill parents for damage, however finding who did it is proving challenging. A system of teachers completing a sheet at the end of each lesson reporting any damage found has been brought in, we are then supposed to check the sheet along with daily checks of each room. However its resource intensive on us as the IT team, and I question the accuracy of it, especially as most don't complete the sheet anyway.

I suppose you could add it to 'Do not inspect' under the HTTPS policies, which would stop the Smoothwall from blocking it because the cert doesn't match. However Pearson really should sort this out.

I know I've had a few bad experiences with APC in the last couple of years, going forward I think I'll be looking at Eaton. Had a rebadged (APC) Dell ups go bang when plugged in, which scared the living daylights out of me, then our home APC let out magic smoke. Another one that granted was ancient failed knocking out the outputs. Recently one of our primaries had an APC fail which also disabled the outputs which then knocked out half the switch stack connected. The last one was in warranty and replaced, just not great when it takes the outputs with it. Maybe I've just been unlucky! Previous datacentre I worked at had a pair of Riello Multi Sentry units that seemed fine. I'd certainly look for something that goes into bypass should a fault occur.

We're an almost all Aruba house, with one stack of 2960Xs and did have issues originally that seemed to be network related, however it turned out to be that the Micro SD cards in the speakers all needed replacing. No issues with our core which is a 5400R ZL2. Only settings we have on the core specific to this VLAN is. ip pim-sparse ip-addr any exit I suspect it could be something to do with the unifi switches timing out the connection.

Had the same problem a while back with an S4, didn't seem to want to do a mirror. Worked fine just on one disk. After each failed attempt I did have to re-format the drives.

We've had an Epson Eco tank for a good few years now, on a cost basis it's been excellent. Print quality isn't amazing, certainly isn't a photo printer but for documents it's fine.

Ouch 1K each, definitely some margin on those. You should at least get some decent lifespan on them, it is good kit. (just not a big fan of Aruba Central - especially for switching)

If it's for a Server room, your UPS might have a connector for a temperature probe. All the APC units I've worked with that had the network cards fitted have had the option.

I suspect it would work for a short period, until that IP gets blocked. From the previous correspondence with Disney in this thread I suspect getting them to engage would be a challenge. I'd be interested to know if hotels have the same problem, my guess is they just block any IP that is seen with more traffic than X.

Judging by the wording I don't think you would be covered if you replaced the board with non Promethean hardware.

I recently bought Progecad for doing electrical schematics, it's essentially a much cheaper AutoCAD. It's much more powerful but much more complicated. I think 2D design fits the education niche perfectly, a couple of tweaks would be nice (granted haven't used V3 yet)

Currently Smoothwall across the estate, however I do think Smoothwall need to up their game for the on premise product. Especially on the reporting aspect.

Has anyone fitted one of these to help with condensation in the loft, it's currently pretty much raining inside ours. Wondering if fitting one of these is going to help with stopping that?

We have a bank of 'exam' laptops which are only used for exams. Sadly they aren't the DFE ones that would ironically be perfect for this application. Batteries are still fairly strong on them, so easily last an exam. We run Exam Write Pad with autosave on, Save path to somewhere discreet on the C drive (just in case) We have a password set to exit the application. Devices are standalone, not connected to the network. That might change though, USB printing has been a bit flaky so might stick a WIFI point onto a standalone printer. In a power cut I presume the exam would have to stop, our main hall and sports hall have no real natural light sources and the emergency lighting wouldn't be suitable I don't think to continue. Don't believe we've had a power cut yet since the site opened, so not overly concerned.

I'd be interested to know the idle draw of the chargers, I'd be surprised if it was more than a couple of watts per trolley. Main problem we have are them not being connected in the first place, so I wouldn't have any interest in fitting timers or further things to obstruct the process. The number of dead laptops brought to the office everyday is surprising, usually sent straight back to plug back into the trolley. On the building side, I recon I could save thousands if let loose with the BMS. Our intelligent networked lighting (that they didn't connect the network to) stays on all night. There are definite savings I think most schools could make.
