  1. Guest mode would work but I have only found Guest Mode to work for Wifi connections only.
  2. Im needing to split my home network in to two sections that cant see each other. I'm behind a standard Sky router. Can anyone recommend a managed switch that will let me configure say ports 2-4 on one vlan and ports 5 to 8 on another, without them being able to communicate. They would need to both be able to have web access via the Sky router. I'm thinking that this may not work as the Sky router will allow the two vlans to communicate? Will a vlan switch even work? Anyone done something similar? There is no option to put the Sky router into Modem only mode so cant do that. What are my options? Many thanks for your help.
  3. Ok, maybe Im being a little over the top. Ill settle for 64.
  4. What hardware have you got your VLAN setup on? Im behind a normal Sky router and keen to seperate my CCTV and other gadgets.
  5. For Sims application updates and for best results it is best to get everyone out of Sims so send an E-mail out asking everyone to be out by a set time. I've also found that updates don't go through if the Firewall is not off on each machine so check that. Then as long as all machines are switched on and they have the agent installed, fire up your Sims Server, load up Solus 3 Deployment and head to the Update Library and find the patch you want to deploy. Then click Deploy.
  6. I'd go for a 128 port switch. Better to go bigger than have to replace later on. They quickly fill up. And 5E is old hat now. Go for atleast 6.
  7. I would put CAt6 ports in every room leading to a main area in the house where you can have a cabinet with switch, router, etc. I wouldn't rely solely on wifi as many things can drop connection, cause interference, etc. Definitely make sure you have some ethernet (maybe even POE) going to ceilings / outside for IP Cameras. I'd go to the NAS for your CCTV or a dedicated unit if you are using the NAS for other things too. I wouldn't bother with an aerial as most services are now through your Internet. You could always add one in the event of Internet goes down but its adding another cable up to the loft for no real purpose. Are you having any multi-room audio? Ceiling speakers? Think about all things that could potentially need a connection......Any doors opened using fobs? Central Heating? Printers?
  8. I'm going to be joining two schools that are side by side into one, they are currently linked via fibre and ethernet. What would you suggest as best scope to go for... We have approx: 100 desktops. 10 Printers. 40 IP Phones. 15 IP Cameras. 250 iPads. 50 Laptops Add another 30 for Wifi Access Points. And add another 20 addresses for miscellaneous things. Assume all staff bring a phone and connect to wifi so that's another 40 odd. What would you recommend? I was thinking a subnet of 255.255.248.0 Your thoughts please. Many thanks.
  9. Or you can just use Windows Server Backup which is free and built in.
  10. Ok, The only reason I say this is that it will be easier to restore if disaster happens.
  11. Will be there on the Friday. Looking forward to it. Please greet me with Champagne and park my car. I will expect my 3 course meal and a helicopter at 4.30pm. Thanks.
  12. Make sure it's a virtual Server.
  13. Do you really need Office365? Would a Google based GSuite be a better option and it is free? I'd throw away the computers from the ICT suite, you can always add new ones later if needed. For that size school you could get away with a Synology NAS that could also run your CCTV cameras.
  14. I would expect it to cover all of the below: - Network Structure and details of where hardware is located. (I think we've all been there where we are hunting round a huge site for a hidden switch) - Licensing details and renewal dates - Updated list of software and hardware / Asset information. - ICT Budget / Financial Information and Suppliers. - Find out what is backed up, where its backed up, by who, and how often. - Passwords, Registration documents, AppleID's, etc. (Make sure admin privileges have been transferred over). - Keys to server rooms, etc.
  15. Being able to only carry 50 people isnt great is it? No airport is going to want to give up gate space to accomodate this beast.
  16. Hi everyone, I wondered if anyone has been in a similar situation. The B2B (Pupil changes and Attendance data) transfer that happens on a weekly schedule from SIMS has stopped working. This happened after doing updates on our Sims Win 2008r2 server. (Updates hadn't taken place for a very long time - Don't ask, Long story!) So basically we need to be able to use TLS 1 but updates now mean that this is obsolete and wont work. I've tried various ways to add TLS 1 back in to the registry and numerous methods but it still won't work. Has anyone had any joys dealing with this or a similar issue? Many thanks.
  17. - Do more exercise and get healthy again. - Plan and go on holiday this year. - Start to think about mving house.
  18. I generally set a range for DHCP and then a set range for static addresses. So all IP cameras, printers, servers, etc have static IP's and are out of the available dhcp range. Client desktops, ipads, laptops, etc all get a dhcp address.
  19. On a different note, I have discovered that plain Pringles go really well with chocolate.
  20. In the event of catastrophy (His sleigh breaks down, the reindeer call in sick, etc) I hope adequate backup procedures are in place.
  21. This worked perfectly. Thanks for the speedy reply. Youve saved me much time.
  22. Ive got to have smoked salmon on Christmas morning with scrambled egg.
  23. Im sure someone will know the answer to this so does anyone know how I do this... I have a folder full of photographs eg. 3829.jpg I need to add 00 in front of each file. eg. 003829.jpg I have a full folder. Is there a quick way to do this? many thanks in advance Edugeekers.
  24. I saw a Colliflower Wellington in the shops the other day. I'm sorry but if someone served me that I'd be sending it right back and the chef would need a good slap. It is Beef Wellington for a reason.
