robintech replied to FN-GM's topic in Enterprise Software
could it not be a backup connection after the firewall, only needs to go outbound in theory and have the server use the backup connection as a gateway for sending the SMS. -

Reduce PDF file sizes - PDF optimisers, ideally Open Source
robintech replied to Ditto's topic in Office Software
https://www.ghostscript.com/blog/optimizing-pdfs.html is an open source one mainly lossy compression of the images is 90% of the saving with PDFs , and also with Tesseract OCR is really good for OCR batch conversion -

Hi Wanted to check if there is a way to snap EWP right and left as per http://www.edugeek.net/forums/educational-software/193723-examwritepad-57.html#post1719953 to use with Read&Write Gold , thought there was a config setting that disabled the Windows key so thought it might be that but can't seem to find it

BAD_Lease from wireless devices - Scope ran out of IP
robintech replied to bicky's topic in Wireless Networks
Wonder if creating a reservation for the hex IP MAC would stop it from using up the scope -
Was going to say the screens can crack, had a company do about 20 of ours and one cracked but they replaced the screen afterwards https://www.counterpoint.co.uk/ Nice part is they came on site and did everything as part of a refresh including their custom AD integration solution which has worked perfectly for years now.

There is a rule for setting groups sending abilities , your woe reminded me to add in new year groups as I was a few years behind https://security.microsoft.com/antispam https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/security/office-365-security/outbound-spam-policies-configure?view=o365-worldwide -
I'd install Papercut NG for a free trial and you get a release station licence for testing purposes; so can put a laptop or something next to one of the MFDs for proof of concept and then move to Papercut MF and pay for the release station embedded in the MFDs own software.

Wonder if we could plug in some mains to USB-C adaptors and somehow secure them so they don't get taken.

Wanted to find out how other schools cope with chargers for BYOD devices, at the moment students aren't allowed to plug in their chargers, there was some talk about PAT testing them but it seems to have faded.

[sims] HELP!!!!! SIMS/FMS/DISCOVER migration.... fail!
robintech replied to Koldov's topic in MIS Systems
I've not done anything as complex but know that feeling well when the simple procedure leaves you in the black void or looking in the logs afterwards and seeing I'd restarted the server after waiting 10 minutes , when it was actually just taking a long time. -
had some odd problems where a gateway device was spoofing MACs for some reason, the arp table on some computers had the wrong entry for the gateway IP but were somehow finding a way out onto the internet at a high latency

Does make it a lot easier, think we just added their reseller ID in apple school manager which gave the reseller permission to assign the iPads to us , and then we moved them to Meraki from ASM

so is the Safeguarding report a fixed template that (apart from exceptions) is going to show blocked content only? I'm only concerned that I might be missing something as Safeguarding Team were under the impression it was a successful visit. The "Breach" part confused me >if you have your policy to block porn, for example, then any porn alerts will also be blocked. does this mean they would be blocked/not show up in the Safeguarding report
-
Stupid question but trying to work out if this means it was blocked and they attempted access or they visited the site successfully and also what Breach means in Smoothwall terms as it seems to apply to attempts and successful attempts? https://help.smoothwall.net/FilterFirewall/Content/2Reports/2Safeguarding/1FullReport/FullReport.htm https://help.smoothwall.net/FilterFirewall/Content/2Reports/2Safeguarding/1FullReport/FullReportPage.htm A Safeguarding level is calculated for each breach, providing a visual indication of the severity of the breach:

Danger — Red label; breaches with this level should be acted upon immediately.
Caution — Yellow label; you should take the necessary action with these breaches.
Advisory — Blue label; this level advises that a Safeguarding breach has been detected.
