  1. Great blog thanks for starting it - I'm looking forward to keeping up to date with it.
  2. Grockit Launches Learnist, a Pinterest for Education could be useful but no doubt will present difficulties with filtering?
  3. Like it or like it not Macs are marching forwards. We have twelve various Macs now, about the same number of iPads and 8 iPods. Our SMT took note of my pleas and not only purchased a Mini Mac Server but also bought in EduMac to set it up - best bit of expenditure I have been involved with as it's really simplified control of these devices - indeed it HAS given me control whereas before they were a constant pain.
  4. Just got back from 3 hours at work prepping redundant kit that's being collected Wednesday morning!
  5. Fair doos - not much point in a poll then. The flavour I'm picking up from the replies is Timetabling is usually the province of a SMT member (frequently the Deputy Head) and as such on the small numbers of pupils and staff we have should be relatively easy to run with T6 but if it's proving difficult we could use Free trial : timetable software ... for timetabling school timetables ... for easier scheduling. and from there import into T6 / SIMS?
  6. Thanks for all your very useful replies folks - perhaps a poll would draw out a clearer picture on the whole time tabling in school issue. Rather than blunder ahead and put up an incomplete poll would any other contributor care to run with one please?
  7. We are a KS 3 Special school for boys with about 70 students. Our timetable is currently 'managed' on an Excel Spreadsheet and it frequently changes. Trying to make the best use of technology we are in the process of getting the timetable onto SIMS T6 and setting it up so we can also use Bromcom's (yippee spelt it right !!) Teacher Web Folder. We had a days visit from a SIMS Timetabler who set T6 up and ran through a lot of stuff and have a second visit booked. However, it's all a bit of a whirl and I'm now wondering how it's achieved in other schools. Presumably bigger establishments have a dedicated timetabler?
  8. We are getting an odd error today on Google Chrome and Safari - IE doesn't seem effected. When the user (Teacher in this case) does a search no clickable URL available but she has to type the URL in then is able to connect to the site?
  9. Thanks FN - I'll get back to you on that one when I have the machine with me. At the moment I'm suffering Broadband loss at home after Orange support spectacularly failed last night. 4 of their staff ran with the case and promised a line test which never came because their 'machine' was down - after running through £16 worth of credit on my mobile!
  10. As Joomla 2.5 is now firmly established I posted this particular question here but was thinking also that as Joomla 2.5 is well established perhaps it ought to have a place of it's own here? My actual question relates to my Joomla 1.5 site though. In the past I set up a local host test site on XAMP thinking I'd be able to transfer the completed article to SWGfL Hosting. However, when it came to it I couldn't because the database on local host couldn't be transferred. I'm now having a go with WAMP local host and giving the database a suitable name, password, etc.. Tried to run the install but it doesn't seem to go unless I leave it as local host. Is there a total bumpy guide to doing this somewhere that someone can point me toward please?
  11. Another recommendation for IT Disposal | LCWS Computer Recycling We have a collection booked for 6 Jun in Wiltshire -chances are they might be able to combine it with a collection from you?
  12. From Solus I'm pretty sure it picks up the 'where from directory etc' on it's own and all you have to do is enter an Admin user name and password.
  13. Thanks for the replies. Would it be possible to use this software Hemming with MySQL instead do you think? (
  14. I think there is already a thread here dealing with this - in some depth?
  15. Forgive me if this sounds a stupid question! I have SQL Express set up on a Windows 7 64 bit Workstation and want to save a Hemmings database to it for my DT teacher to access from his workstation and use. I don't want to put the database on our existing SQL on the server. Can I do this - if so how please?
  16. About the only good news thing of turning 60 - Free Prescriptions!

    XMac Mini

Recently EduMac set up our Mac Mini Server in our Air conditioned server room. The Mini Mac was one of our better recent investments and having Ross set it up was well worth it. I can't see anything we would gain by buying this item of kit as unfortunately we haven't advanced to a rack yet!
  18. I'm wondering if this was what caused the issue on my Heads PC recently. Foxit is now the PDF Reader on that after the registry fix SYNACK pointed me toward.
  19. One of my cleaners thought it would be helpful to run her cloth over some of our TFT screens resulting in horrid smears on them now - one of the flipping screens was brand new as well! What's the best option for getting the screens looking normal again?
  20. SYNACK you are not just a Mod you are a God! - no blasphemy intended. This worked a treat. thanks a huge heap mate.
  21. Thanks for the replies FN and Synack. I incorrectly said earlier that we have Roaming Profiles - looking at AD I see there is nothing in the profile path it's all done by a login.bat file. I have got the HT to log on to another Win 7 64 Bit PC and the desktop hasn't pulled up on that one either - would that be because by renaming his local user file on his original PC that's locked it? Looking at his folder on the Domain I see his Documents and Desktop folders are there and the content looks normal. Would I be right in thinking I'm going to need to release his locked profile on the original PC before trying any of the above?
  22. Not an issue anyone else has encountered - yet then! Unfortunately the Head logging on again today and has a temporary desktop again.
  23. What I have tried - so far! In Users Created a New Folder where I copied his Desktop and Download Folders. Renamed his User Folder. Got him to log on - twice so far but Windows came up with a message both times saying it had provisioned a temporary desktop and despite Roaming Profile had not given direct access to his documents either. They were available through his mapped drives though. Created links on his current desktop to the old Desktop and Download folders and from there his documents and folders have the right associations again. I hope that after he logs off and logs on again the correct profile gets picked up again. Odd one isn't it. He did have an item of Malware on his PC which MalwareBytes has seen off.
  24. My HT has a problem on his Windows 7 64 Bit workstation. Most of his file and programme associations have suddenly changed to Adobe Reader. Logging him off and logging on myself my Associations are normal. How do I change his so they are as well? Anyone come across this before?
  25. Given you a rep for this Flatpackhamster because what you say sadly is proven in history - time and time again.
