Not greatly impressed with HP either! Anyhow, at the moment she has upgraded (if you can call a Blackberry an upgrade) her phone and hops onto our trusty old Dell tower running Win 7 whenever she wants to do anything a bit more serious than the Mobil can handle.

Thanks @witch Two things I don't like about Lenovos - preloaded with masses of bloat ware including and especially their own 'tools' plus American Megatrends MB. I see the latest Fujitsus have them now though as well. Had a few MB problems - perhaps just bad luck. Also warranty support seem to be 'uncooperative' unless their installed OS and tools are on board when giving assistance. Also had an IBM / Lenovo engineer replacing a MB tell me that updates should be carried out using their built in updates tool. On the other hand all the time I have been using Fujitsus never even had to call support once - yet! Plus they are remarkably great value in my opinion.

In another area the two great pillars of support for serving and retired service personnel have been SSAFA and The Royal British Legion but in recent years other organisations have sprung up that must surely dilute their very worthy efforts. Same throughout charity work I suppose.

No question in my mind. I have been using IT Disposal | LCWS Computer Recycling for close on ten years now. Superb service, they take the lot and put it to good use. Any thought of selling on doesn't work for me, too many pitfalls and potential waste of time and effort for peanuts return.

Star posting thanks very much @ computer_expert I have the IE 10 blocker set in Group Policy Settings currently and need to put it's sister for IE11 on in the very near future methinks. Removing IE10 from those new clients and replacing it with IE9 is going to be a priority for next time I'm at work then as is looking for that green line in settings for IE9.

We have a Windows Server 2008 Standard 32 bit as DC with a Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit which also has a DC role. Recently setting up imaged refurbished Windows 7 32 bit clients with IE 9 and also some out of the box Fujitsus running Windows 7 64 bit with IE 10 preinstalled I'm finding that the SWGfL proxy isn't getting picked up by default. Checking the settings on the clients I can see that the proxy box is getting ticked but the proxy details aren't getting populated. Port 80 is being populated when it should be 8080. I'm pretty sure that the correct proxy and port details are set. Where should I be looking to correct this.

Ever since I let my Lumix TZ8 take a swim it's never been quite the fab camera it was before! Im looking in got replace it and am thinking of either shelling out a heap for a TZ40 or going for a Canon SX240 HS which is currently a hundred quid cheaper than the Panasonic. Any recommendations from fellow Edugeekers please?

As budgets are non existent extending the lives of 2 computer rooms which have dear old Fujitsu Esprimo 3500 s running XP by spring cleaning them physically then upgrading the OS to Windows 7 on them and any other machines in the school running XP. Two new classrooms to sort out. Sort out mail accounts. Put 3 new Macs on the system for our Art Dept. Maybe try and install Server 2012 on our old Dell 680 which had Server 2003 on running SIMS last so I can have a tinker with moodle. I have never had a go at installing a server OS or been anywhere near moodle before so I'll be visiting Edugeek a heap methinks searching for advice on the latter optional tasks if I get round to it.

Someone likes RM though - their share price has moved up pretty substantially over recent weeks.

I have always felt that RM has failed to move with the times. It had that horrendous CC4 debacle that crashed it's rep hugely and must have hit the bottom line badly. They have taken a heap of time moving toward offering a more efficient purchasing system, their prices have never appeared to me to give them a competitive edge. Why they have rolled over and encouraged schools to migrate from EasyMail is a complete mystery - surely the answer there would have been to get expertise on board to move EasyMail away from feeling so clunky and make it a top notch must have tool for schools. I seem to far to often nowadays to be speaking to support staff who need me to phonetically spell out my name, the e-mail address and school address. Occasionally I call support and speak to someone who understands the English language spoken with a Cornish accent and has an instant grasp of what my issue is. In a word it has to come down to the quality of Management and Leadership. With the right people doing the right things for a fair price RM should be the school's market leader - maybe it's not too late for it to focus and make itself just before it's completely missed the boat?

Our ICT teacher has asked me to set up Kodu | Home in her classroom. This is a new one to me anything I need to know about it before ploughing ahead. My immediate concerns are how big are the files generated going to be does it use IP addresses and just generally are there any reasons not to be using it. Thanks in advance.

We have a strange issue here. With MS Office 2010 all users get the usual set up box popping up for first log on to any given Workstation but one Student is getting MS Office install running every time for every document he tries to open. I can't for the life of me figure out what's going on??

Back in the early 70s I bought one on finance and even though it wasn't a big heap of money then the payments seemed to take forever to end. Also the heap was depreciating in value every day. Wifey recently took my 19 year old car shopping and came back full of he joys having purchased one on finance. The seemingly reputable Fiat dealer promised to send the finance documents on as they couldn't print it then and there. Long and the short of it the promised paperwork never arrived and wifey went to the dealership a few months later to query why. She then received the paperwork and nearly fell through the floor when she realised what she had signed up to. £8K car is going to cost a further £3K by the time she has paid for it. I wanted to kick off about it but her indoors wouldn't.

Is Sophos Support aware of this issue I wonder?

I'll ask our SLT if they want to give it a pop - we are a KS3 Special Needs for young lads with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties. Somehow I think I know where they will tell me to go!
