  1. Afternoon, The virtualisation project that we had planned last April was shelved due to half of our funds being diverted elsewhere. It is now back on the cards so the planning has started again. When we started the initial planning (and after ditching the Citrix idea) we decided to move to HyperV - at the time 2008R2 was the version we would be running. Now by the time we get going I assume the Server 2012 version of HyperV will be available. So do we make the decision to use a tried and tested 2008R2 version or do we bite the bullet and move straight to 2012 (without waiting for 2012 SP1). What have colleagues on here done? Cheers Gareth
  2. Wowsers - I certainly had a shock to get a response to this posting. I don't have them now as it was a good few years ago. If I hear of any I shall let you know. Gareth
  3. Yeah - just done all of that and the install failed. Troubleshooting now. Did you put your installer on a seperate server? Where is your cmd stored? On your mdt server in that .applications directory? Gaerth

  5. Hi Guys, Just a quick one - where is the best place to deploy an app using MDT when needing to use a command line? The command I want to put in there installs Windows Movie Maker Live 2012. The command works from the desktop but I want to automate it. Any help appreciated, Gareth
  6. Morning All, We are having a problem getting YouTube through our Netsweeper box and wondered if anyone could help? We are running IE9 with the latest version of Flash and have allowed *.youtube.com through our box yet the whilst the site is appearing we are having issues with the video (which doesn't play). We are given a black box which says something along the lines of 'Cannot play video. Please try again later'. Is there a a list of domains that need to be added to let youtube through? Many thanks Gareth
  7. Right - I see that it writes into AD - but I don't want the machine serial numbers. I wanted the script to query the ActivBoard and grab that serial number. GJE
  8. A bit confused to where this saves information Help :-( Gareth
  9. Giving me a syntax error in line 1 Gareth
  10. I wonder if anyone has a script that will trawl the network and pick up serial numbers from any boards that are connected. Some boards do not show their serial number in the driver software so running a startup script would be an excellent way for me to do this across a large site. All I want are the following fields: Maybe it could be increased to have I have no idea how to go about this. Over to you Promethean - I'm sure it would help a lot of people as well. Gareth
  11. Best advice I can give (as an MDT 2010/2012) user is to purchase the book which is noted in the sticky at the top of the forum. This got us through setting it up and worked out of the book. It's a great product. Remember also you can download the latest HP drivers through their driver software (we do this). Here is the link to the sticky: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/o-s-deployment/76099-mdt-resources.html PLenty of blogs and advice out there (see sticky) that are worth reading. Regards Gareth
  12. Evening All, My 2008 iMac Superdrive has decided to die and all attempts at fixing and resetting bits has not worked so I am going to replace it. The current drive is a Matshita DVD-R UJ-875 Can anyone confirm if I can replace it with this: Apple DVD Superdrive Burner AD-5680H Replace AD-5670S UJ-875A | eBay It says it will replace a UJ-875A - does that A make a difference? Anyone done this themselves before? Cheers for any advice, Gareth
  13. I sold my iPhone 4 for £185 to a local guy on Friday. I'm without a phone this week but decided to shift it with the best offer I could find just in case prices dropped. O2 were not offering much but CPW offered me £165 so I was happy with £185 cash. Well done for getting £230 - in addition I have gone from a 32Gb down to 16Gb as I didn't see the need for a larger phone. Gareth
  14. No. I'll convince you otherwise. You wait. Gareth
  15. Hi, Thanks for this. I think the second one is best for me. Can you set a different enrollement key which puts them into different groups? Gareth
  16. Hi Moodlers, We have just had our Moodle upgraded to 2.3.x. I like it but thought I'd look at some things I'd not thought of before. It is LEA controlled so I have no access to the backend - yet am a site administrator. This year I have decided to introduce self marking quiz tasks and other self marking elements into Year 7. What I want is that when 200 Year 7 access the quiz and complete it they are stored in class order and not in one long list of 200. Would this be done using groups? I have never used groups but think it could help me organise marking better. I'm getting a bit tongue tied with what I want to achieve here. Basically - how do schools with large year groups sort their Moodle access/marking so that they do not have masses of lists and do not have to create a copy of the course for each individual class. Sense? To me it does. Gareth
  17. Well that's just typical. I've been trying all day in work to get this done and at home this evening on a Windows 7 laptop (IE9 etc). I read the above posts on my Mac and try again - it is now working. Cheers everyone, Gareth
  18. Not sure if this has been commented upon here, and maybe Edugeekers have experience with the company but the new All Wales VLE (called The Hwb) contract has been given to: Learning Possibilities Currently under development with the first aim (from what I hear) being to get NGFL Wales content onto the new system. Just some news that I have not seen on here. Gareth
  19. Evening, So it seems this was launched today: Apple (United Kingdom) - Education - Volume Purchase Programme - but I cannot for the life of me get it to work. Clicking on 'Enrol Now' takes me to an enrollment page which up on loading jumps again and gives a page not found. Is anyone else seeing this? Gareth
  20. Bringing this thread back to life with the latet installment in my tale for a return to fitness. You may remember me writing that I started running last Octoberdue to M&S telling me I was a 38" waist in 'smart' trousers. Even though Inwas 36" waist in jeans. Well almost a year on, I'm comfy at 3 x 10k runs a week and went for new school trousers today. Chuffed to find I was a 34" waist again. Hoorah I though but alas I have hadto get 36" trousers due to 34" being too tight around the groin (calm down ladies) and the bum. Also tight on the thighs. This is dueto muscle developing. Oh well. Weight wise - last October - 15st 2. Now - 13st 12. Long way to go before 12st 8. How is everyone else doing? Gareth
  21. I ordered one on release day from Farnell and it arrived around end of June - just before the Summer holidays. I was all full fuss wanting to play with it and getting annoyed that it wasn't arriving. Then when it arrived I opened the box and put it back after looking at it meaning to use it over the six weeks. Ho hum - it's still in the box on the shelf where I left it. Not had the time. Gareth
  22. It used to. I doubt the ML update did anything. Did it? Gareth
  23. Hi Guys, Does anyone have a SuperDrive I can buy off them? Mine seems to have broken and despite reading and writing to DVD it does not recognise blank CD media - yet it plays CD media. I've searched Google for hours looking for a solution but the only one out there seems to be replacing the drive. A quick look at some videos shows the procedure is reasonably easy to do. I'm happy to do it. Has anyone here done it? Where do you guys get their spares from? Cheers Gareth
  24. Getting back to the original topic - hilarious. GJE
