Hi, All we have done is extract the Network install directly to our msi store. Followed the instructions to the letter. I'll ask our LEA server team to have a look. Odd that two people in this post have mentioned it. Gareth

A look at our Event Viewer during testing this morning shows this error: I read about elevated priveladges but we are installing through GPO - I thought this would automatically elevate it. The driver MSI went on without any issues. Anybody help at all? Promethean are you there? Cheers Gareth

I'm with you there @CESIL - I used to think about running stuff at home but now I sit either upstairs in my study on my trusty 4Gb iMac 24" 2010 model. Or I sit downstairs using the school Samsung P510 laptop with Windows 7. If I'm reading I'll use my iPad. If I want films I'll watch Sky or if I want music I'll plug in my phone. Like you I don't run it 24/7 - but respect to those who do. With leccy prices going up my usage will go down hopefully. Any of you guys with massive servers at home got kids? Gareth

Yes - not far at all. I was walking on that very Aberavon beach the other day. We used to have massive family get togethers on that beach once a Summer. Everyone - aunties, uncles, etc etc all met for one day and brought picnics. Back in the 70's early 80s. It went downhill for a while but NPT are investing more in it. My Gran went into a nursing home overlooking the beach a few years ago. Alas she is no longer with us but her being there took me to the beach quite a lot. Well I guess you know the Afan Lido was burnt down the other year. I've not kept up with developments so do not know if it's being rebuilt. A Harry Ramsden's opened up the other year and lasted about 9 months with their stupidly expensive fish and chips. There is an Apollo Cinema there - that's cool. A nice cafe and chippy now on the front. Always very busy. Any idea what the post code was back then? GJE

I do not know of a way into teaching without a relevant degree. There is a female member of staff here who wants to be an ICT teacher but even though I know she has the skills there is no entry path in to teaching as she doesn't have the qualifications. Right now she is doing an OU Open Degree and has chosen some ICT modules. I'm not sure when she will finish that or if I will need a teacher at that time. I do need an extra specialist at the moment but the school isn't letting me. I have a good student teacher (PGCE) at the moment but he has just had a job in another school. Gutted. Gareth

I wonder if anyone solved this? I extracted the latest Inspire suite today after downloading it from Promethean online. It extracted network installs of the drivers, the Inspire programe and all the other gubbins. I tested the driver installing over MSI and it went on fine. I then added the Inspire programme into an MSI and although Windows 7 Enterprise told me it had installed (via the Event viewer) it actually hadn't installed. Not even created a directory for installation on the C drive. It installs fine when running the msi and uninstalls fine when re-running the MSI. Strange. Any advice? Gareth

Hi All, Thank you for all your comments regarding this. We did look at the logs to see who had accessed one of our sites and from 4 IP addresses we came up with 3 names. The 4th name actually made the edit with his Wikipedia username :-) Anyhow we got them in and without accusing them of anything asked them if they had anything to do with it. Believe it or not all 3 confessed to what they had done. One boy was actually amazed that we could trace his anonymity through an IP address. The matter now moves onto the next stage with parental involvement. So thanks everyone for your help with this. Case closed. Gareth

Good luck. I know your wife is a teacher (as you say) - but please don't be put off my negative teachers. It is a great job - yes it comes with it's stresses and complaints but the pay is okay, the holidays are okay and if you get a good school you are set. I've been in my school for 13 years and whilst the advice is to move around and gain experience I am finally happy here (after a stressful time with a previous member of staff). I could stay here for a long time. Go for it and good luck to you. As you are a techie now you will be in an excellent position to work and understand any techies who will support you in your department. Gareth

I know a gentleman who has just completed his training. He started as a techie, then started on the job training whilst staying as a techie then because a teacher with 50% techie and has now got ICT Coordinator role with 100% teaching. It can be done and if you have a supportive school you'll be kay. Gareth

Good afternoon, I wonder if anyone knows how an Apple TV would identify itself to a wireless network so that wireless network could allow it through the authenticated proxy server without authentication (did that make sense?). Our new BYOD system needs authentication so that school users log in through a captive portal. Obviously the AppleTV doesn't suppore authentication through proxy servers so we need a way of identifying the device so the rules can be changed to let it through. Any advice or pointers? Appreciated as always, Gareth

Morning Guys, We need to trace an IP address from a Virgin Media account - would anyone have advice on how to do this? I very much doubt Virgin Media will give us the details under the DPA but I thought I'd ask anyway. A pupil has written some nasty stuff on Wikipedia about another pupil. We have the IP address from the Edit History (and the text they wrote) and it maps back to Gorseinon but from there we cannot trace any further. The offending material has been removed but we have a very upset pupil here. Cheers Gareth

Evening People, We've found a way of embedding Google fonts in our Moodle 1.9.7 courses through the use of a bit of javascript (taken from the Google fonts site) and some iinline stylesheet codes. I"m wondering if anyone has found a way of embedding two Google fonts in a web page using the Javascript files? Here is the first one we use: This is followed by the following codes: Our next step is to find if we can use two different fonts. Alas I cannot find a way of doing it and wondered if anyone has seen a way? Many thanks Gareth

@glennda - I agree but this one time I felt that what the school wanted was better served by a commercial product such as OneLan. Like I said in my previous post - it just worked and we were able to get on with other stuff. Gareth

We use OneLan systems and although it was expensive it does the job and has saved us loads of time. It just works - which I guess is what you are paying for. GJE

I'm not sure what has happened. The same 4 pictures have written themselves over and over again to the camera card. 6000 copies of them. No software seems to be helping. Never mind. Gareth

Hi Guys, On Monday whilst visiting Folly Farm in Pembrokeshire we took some photos of my son with Fireman Sam only to get them home and discover the camera card has become corrupt. I'm currently running it through a file recovery application (Recuva) to see if anything his salvagable. What I have discvered is that 4 pictures have written themselves over and over again (see screenshot). Does anyone have any advice on any solution I can try? The software has found old photos before the corruption but the latest ones from Monday are not there. Each repeated picture has a new filename. Anyone? Cheers Gareth
