  1. I could ask them to do this, but it would mean spending time setting up their side of things which would be time consuming when I've already done it. Plus their distribution point would be on our main file store (which they provide). Just seems a better idea linking things up to what we have already. I've thought about asking them if I could use their license to install it on our own virtual server and run our own installation of sccm - I assume them my servers would just drop into that? Gareth
  2. Afternoon everyone, The LEA have installed a central SCCM server and are in the process of giving each school a delegated distribution point (I think that is what it is called). So far they have sorted this out for AV deployment of SCEP. Now they want to do the same for MDT and WSUS - but with their servers. We already have MDT and WSUS and we do not want to change, but it could be handy to integrate them into their SCCM solution. So my question is a simple one... Could we use their SCCM tools to control our MDT and WSUS? Can our servers be mapped to our area of control? Cheers Gareth
  3. Thanks @Gongalong I see there is no template listed for Office 2016. That's a shame. Gareth
  4. Ohh, that's a bummer. It's a 64 bit laptop. Gareth
  5. @arron - Please tell me more about UE-V and how you use it. Is it something I should be looking at? Any links or training videos? Cheers Gareth
  6. The main reason I have been looking at this is to save a double log on for users. First logon is onto our curriculum domain, then they have to log onto Hwb/Office 365 with a different set of credentials. I've been told that I can have Windows 10 machines log straight into Office 365/Azure. That is great as it means OneDrive would work better too. HOWEVER - and this is the big one... How do I keep the settings from the school curriculum domain. Nobody seems to be able to give me an answer. We have mapped drives etc. Gareth
  7. Sorry to read this @Nausing - there is a cracking thread here about MDT: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/o-s-deployment/76099-mdt-resources.html which has been built up over time. You can do no wrong in buying some deployment books and going from there. You don't mention which OS you are going for but we used the books listed here. We have bought them all over time: https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Deployment+fundamentals The reason I use the books and follow their path (with minor changes) is that is makes it easier for someone new to come in and see what we have done. Keep going. I love MDT and how it works. We don't have SCCM yet but it's on the way via the LEA. Cheers Gareth
  8. Morning all, Please don't shoot a messenger but could anyone send me the satellite installation files for NovaT4? Our Timetabler works in NovaT4 whilst I work alongside him in NovaT6 (I'm taking over from next year I think). He has had a new laptop and has asked me if I can put T4 on there for him. Our SIMS server doesn't have the files any more (that I can see). Hopefully someone here does. Thanks all, Gareth
  9. We are looking at Teams, but after chatting with Mandeep Atwal of Microsoft yesterday, I've decided to wait until Teams for Education is finally released towards the middle of July. Again, I'm up against our Hwb Masters in that Teams is open for staff but not for students due to safeguarding issues. Gareth [h=1][/h]
  10. As Hwb 365 users in Wales, Yammer has been turned off due to it not being controllable at a granular level. Not impressed as I used to use it a lot. I suppose I could register with a new email account, but would that mean I had to restart everything/ Gareth
  11. Someone talk to me about inTune for Education - can it save me money? We are fully licensed for W10, we need to move totally over to the Office 365/Hwb ecosystem. Would taking ITfE and Windows 10 be the way forward and ditching our school AD? Is this even making sense? I have the idea... but not sure of the logistics. Gareth - - - Updated - - - For example - we need a mapped drive for SIMS - how would this be configured using inTune For Ed? Can the new School PC Configuration application do this sort of thing without inTune?
  12. pCounter Embedded from KM - 3.2.1 pCounter 2.87d
  13. Morning @MatthewL - thanks for getting back in touch. We do report on Client Codes and in detail too so that departments know exactly who is spending what in their areas. We actually took the AV off our Printer server the other week to test this. We use SCEP across the network. I need to put this back on. I wonder whether our Embedded sofware is old! Which software are you referring to when you say it's a 'dated product' - embedded or pCounter? Gareth
  14. Hi Matthew - this is what we do. If a user is assigned to 4 departments then that is all that is displayed. However when we enter the pin code it doesn't go straight there. It sends the user through a few extra screens and unneccesary key presses. Gareth
  15. We keep the profile field blank in the AD so I guess use nothing. Everything is done via GPO. Not sure whether this is the right thing to do or not. Gareth
  16. Any experts out there that understand the Konica Minolta pCounter Embedded interface, and it's configuration options? We've had complaints in school that it takes too long and too many keypresses to get to where you need to when accessing the secure print queue. So these are the steps: 1. Press a button to bring up the key code pad on the screen (1 press) 2. Enter your key code (4 presses) 3. Press 'login' (1 press) 4. What a stupid amount of time before arriving at.... 5. Client Code search screen 6. Press 'Search' to open up search window 7. Press 'Ok' to access all codes applied to one user (quicker than entering a department) 8. Wait another long period of time 9. Screen opens with list of every department assigned to a member of staff 10. Choose your department which takes you back to the 'Search screen' from step 6 11. Press 'Ok' 12. Wait again for device to connect to server and log you in to that secure queue 13. Screen displays all Copy options. 13 or so key presses to get here. We want to get rid of steps 5 to 11 so that when a user enters their keycode it simply displays the departments they have access to. No search window etc etc. This would speed things up. The whole process is too slow. Konica want to remote into our network, but this will not happen due to restrictions from above. We are using KM Embedded 3.2.1 Any help appreciated, Gareth
  17. Cheers everyone. It's just annoying that 2.4.2 doesn't work with the inbuilt jkd but 3.1 does. Gareth
  18. Afternoon, Can anyone advise with Greenfoot? When running it on a locked down exam user account, version 2.4.2 doesn't see the inbuilt Java SDK. Version 3.1 does. WJEC have sent out a circular telling us that 2.4.2 is the only supported version yet we are having trouble running it due to this Java issue. We've set the JAVA_HOME environment variable but this hasn't worked. Has anyone else had this issue and managed to solve it using locked down accounts? Cheers Gareth
  19. Thank you for looking. I wonder if Visual Studio 2010 has it? Gareth
  20. Afternoon All, I'm trying to install the help files for offline use for Visual Basic 2010 Express Edition. They take hours to download via the web so I'm wondering if anyone has the required msha file. I believe it is called HelpContentSetup.msha - and can be found on the iso in :\ProductDocumentation As I have only the web download and not an ISO, I do not have this directory. Can anyone send it to me? Kind of urgent. Regards Gareth
  21. OKay - have sussed it out. For future reference I've simply entered the following path into the dialogue box: C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net That is it. It worked from there and I am able to carry one editing the timetable. Gareth
  22. Evening all, I've been following LEA guidelines for installing NovaT6 without needing the full version of SIMS on my laptop as I have been working on the school timetable. It's installed fine and the license has gone in but when then run it I get the error: Please set your Command Pulsar directory in Tools|Set SQL Link Path So I go to this option and I'm asked to browse to a path. Stuck. Any help appreciated - what exactly am I meant to be pointing too? Cheers Gareth
  23. Cheers everyone - in that case I shall download the whole of France :-) I was just concerned that you needed GPS and so data switched on for the map to know where you are. Gap in knowledge there. Will revise.
  24. Evening all, Over the Summer I am driving the family to France for a three week caravan 'oliday. I have an old Tom Tom but my wife has an iPhone 7S which is bigger. I use Google Maps for local sat nav stuff in the UK but I'd like to use Google Maps in France because my guess is it will be more up to date. Has anyone looked at the data usage of Google Maps? I've looked at downloading the maps but if I'm not using live GPS then surely I cannot use it as a sat nav. O2 have just contacted me to say my data allowance in their Eurozone will be usable under UK terms and conditions - so that's handy. Anyone done this? Cheers me deers, Gareth
