  1. Oooo - thanks Steve. Never thought of using two switches before. I only have one. I assume both switches would then link back to my main central backbone switch. We have both our servers linked together too for failover. I think I may need to re-do ours. Is this how yours is set up? Gareth
  2. Thanks Steve, Would this sort of information be on the web somewhere? With diagrams etc? Gareth
  3. Afternoon All, My journey to improve our HyperV setup continues after being setup a long time ago by @rich_tech. I'm in the process of adding a third node but before I do, I was wondering what the ideal way of cabling this all together is? Two of the servers (HyperV1 and V2) have 6 network ports. The new server has 8 network ports. The SAN is a P2000 G3 and the switch is a Cisco 200 Two notes is working well, but as I learn what I am doing I'm looking for improvements. So any wiring diagrams, advice etc would be gratefully taken on board. Thanks Gareth
  4. Well - what a simple answer it was. Whilst reading through the Intelligent Provisioning user guide it mentioned an SD card install. Now, I don't use SD cards in my servers for the OS - but it got me thinking "What if....?" So I opened the server and there it was, an SD card - and one which was not being recognised by the OS. This was a refurbished server from ICT-Direct and pre-built so I never thought to check the sd card slot. Removing the sd card sorted it all out. Thanks everyone for their help, Gareth
  5. Evening @Michael, I've formatted the USB stick with NTFS and put the Server 2016 ISO on there - which I downloaded from the Volume Licence site. I put the usb stick into the server and boot into the Intelligent Provisioning service. I follow the screens/wizard and it sees my USB stick. However it does not see the ISO that is on there. Gareth
  6. Hi Michael, I've tried the Intelligent Provisioning option on the server with a USB stick and the ISO on there - but alas it's not worked. It doesn't see the ISO. :-( BIt stumped with this one. I should be able to install Server 2016. It's worked fine on our older 380Gen8s Gareth
  7. Thanks for the reply. Yes - only one drive I can see. Gareth - - - Updated - - - Cheers Michael - going to try that now with the ISO. The boot USB I created has not worked with the Install Assistant. GJE
  8. It saw the drives before I installed the driver - but still failed. I tried the driver to see if it fixed it. Cheers Gareth
  9. Something I've never seen before got me a bit stumped today. A server arrived with the two drives configured in RAID 1 (is that mirroring)? As I expected. It fired up and booted from USB into the 2016 installer. 2016 recognised the drives, but I installed the P410i driver anyway. This is how I did it on our other older servers. So one partition is the drive. It's Drive 0 Partition 1 @ 279.4Gb and is marked as Primary. It gives an error - 'We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the Setup log files'. So a search revealed going into the command line and clearning the disk etc etc, before trying it again. I then get the error 'We couldn't install Windows in the location you chose. Please check your media drive. Here's more information about what happened 0x80300001" So I left it to search some. Google not much help. ANyone here seen it? Gareth
  10. Hi Steve, I'm going through the ones I understand what to do. Then I'll run it again. Grateful for any help. Gareth
  11. Another HyperV question as I attept to get lost in the wonders that it offers. I've just run a Cluster Validation check and somethings are Success (phew) and some are warnings. Has anyone got a full 'Success' when running their validation? Should I be looking at fixing the 'warnings' - or is it a case of if it isn't broken then don't fix it? If I come here with some of the warnings, can someone help me fix them or advise? I'm happy to share my validation html file in the interest of science. Cheers all, Gareth
  12. Morning All, I wonder if anyone knows of any powershell scripts that can analyse a HyperV installation and either advise on steps to optimise it, or do the optimising for you. There must be something out there. We have a great WSUS script, and some great MDT stuff - but nothing for HyperV. Any ideas? Cheers Gareth
  13. Sorry @bald_pig - I got snowed under with other stuff and then Easter break happened - so no, I didn't get anywhere. I'll get back to it next week and report back. Gareth
  14. Hi Jake-ST, Did you get anywhere with this? I want to revert back to offering Outlook 365 to staff but we don't now where to store the settings. We do not use a profile, but do have a Settings directory in each user space for things that need storing. Can you tell Outlook 365 where to store it's settings? Gareth
  15. Hi - yes it does this but then when you go to cut an image from Techsoft it randomly decides where to burn it instead of going to 0,0. Gareth
  16. Hi All, We have just had to rebuild the desktop PC that powers our Spirit Laser Cutter. I've installed the driver and all is well, however the laser cutter is not getting it's origin set to 0,0 - and is instead starting to cut further in. Has anyone seen this before and knows how to set it? I've looked at the drivers but cannot see anything that says 'Origin' - unless I am missing it. Cheers Gareth
  17. We use EOP as a bolt on to pCounter. We were told it was the interface sofware to use between our Chromebooks and our accounting solution. Our Chromebooks print out from their dedicated wifi network to GCP whilst our pCounter/EOP server sits on our curriculum network. I've followed the instructions to get the server talking to GCP on the correct port but our test printer is showing as offline - even though it is clearly not. So - when the Chromebook prints - nothing happens. More testing tomorrow as the LEA have tweaked some firewall settings. Gareth
  18. Doesn't really answer my question @MatthewL - I am not looking for another product. Your suggestion isn't helpful either as I cannot just 'bin that'. Gareth
  19. Hi, Has anyone got the above combination of software working? I'm struggling and some advice would be handy. Cheers Gareth
  20. Good morning everoneI wonder if anyone has speed issues when running pCounter as a HyperV machine - and is there any 'ideal' setting that I am missing. HyperV2016DC edition is running and it seems to be running fine. Everything seems to be nice and speedy however data passing between our print server and our MFDs via pCounter is slow. Logging on via a pin code and and getting a list of cost centres is taking between 17 and 60 seconds. Yet when we connect a laptop direct it takes 5 seconds (I know it's a direct connection). However - Konica say it should not be that slow. When I print direct - it is speedy and work comes out without much delay. I have allocated 16Gb of memory to the pCounter machine. Cheers Gareth
  21. Hi @MrMat - stuff looks amazing. Well done. Gareth
  22. Hiya - this is exactly it, but I've been trying it since this morning and all I get is shown in the screenshot. Seems several people have the same issue. Sigh. Not going very well today.
  23. Hiya, I've been searching for ages but nothing seems to spring out... I'm looking for a wordpress plugin that takes my latest Instagram post and automatically creates a post on my blog (www dot running-geek dot co dot uk) There seems to be plenty going the other way but nothing doing what I want. So when I post to Inst, it connects to my WP and creates a page, with the photo, the text and any hashtags I've put in there. Otherwise it will have to be a manual process. Cheers Gaerth
  24. Thanks @Arthur - I'm trying to recall if I've used it before. Looks handy to deploy apps from within MDT perhaps. Gareth
  25. No - not yet. I've tried and tried, but as I don't have enterprise admin I cannot change some permissions. I've tried the pre-staging instructions but it errors out. Gareth
