Nahh - not working
-
That makes sense - I've prestaged an account now so just need to run the PShell script to make it work. Fingers crossed. Gareth

Our hand was forced on Monday when something weird happened to one of our nodes and it decided to dump it's roles onto our second node. It then blue screened. So a decision was taken to push the upgrade to HyperV2016 - and this has gone well. This morning I finished the upgrade of the second server. It is now running 2016/2016 as a cluster and the failover and migration of roles is working really well. Now - how much testing would you do on this before you upgraded the Cluster Functional Level? I still have backups of the roles at the 2012r2 level, but this seems to be the last step. Any advice welcome Gareth

Thank you @RobD - I thought as much. My only issue now is with setting it up as I'm getting an error message. I've put it here in a screenshot - any ideas? I'm about to experiement with the PS command it recommends.

Afternoon guys, I've just been re-building our cluster and wondered whether CAU needs setting up on both nodes in the cluster, or only one one (which then controls everything else). Any advice? Cheers Gareth
-
Yes - FinishAction=Reboot is already in my task sequence - but it still displayes the Final Summary screen. For an automated restart you would need both commands. Gareth
-
How do you get the reboot? I just stop at the final screen and when I continue it reboots. Shell is hidden too. Ahhha. Is it SkipFinalSummary=Yes That would work with a REboot?

I don’t bother about what the point is. It’s just cool. I like stuff like that. Each to their own. Innit.

Is it me, or is there always something to learn about MDT. Now that it's working I've been looking into different configs and examples. This was pretty cool: http://supportishere.com/how-to-add-a-deployment-duration-to-the-mdt-litetouch-final-summary-page/ What other cool stuff is out there for MDT to do? Gareth

MDT is driving me nuts as I rebuild this server. When trying to get the database sorted I am getting the following error when trying to allocate db_datawriter and db_datareader - never had this issue before. Tempted just to throw it all in the bin and start again. I'm far from an expert on this - and am about to Google but maybe someone has seen it. Regards Gareth

Thanks everyone for their help with this. All working now. However..... (another post coming).

Right - some news. I've hard wired the join password into the customsetting.ini file (don't remember doing this before). It's gone in as the DomainAdminPassword= variable. So what happened? The machine joined itself to the network with a random name as I expected it to. But I don't remember putting the password into the customsetting.ini file before - especially as it's plain text. Gareth

Hiya @Michael - I thought of that but I am testing using HyperV2012r2 which has always worked. I'm trying to work out what I've done that is different from when I created the server several years ago. Gareth
-
Yes. The capturing has been easy. Trying with a password that has no special characters now. I'm stumped. Gareth
-
Yes - because when the machine is sat there as a local Admin I can join it to the domain using the credentials I have provided - so I'm not sure why it isn't happening during the deployment phase. Cheers Gareth
-
Current log file - tries this 4 times. Struggling. I've checked the permissions for my user - they have permission to join the domain.
-
I've tried a few things now - trying to remember what it used to be before our server died a death. Here are the logs from %systemroot%/debug/netsetup Here is an image of the log file. I'm missing something obvious - but probably blind from years of it working. Cheers Guys

Morning all, So I made a nice new image yesterday - probably the final W7 image I will ever make for the school (see other posts about W10). All procedures followed. I've been doing this for years without any issues and then BOOM. The image which was imported to the Deployment share doesn't join to the network. It installs and runs through the task sequence before just stopping. No domain join at all - despite the details being in the cusomsettings.ini etc etc. What would I have missed this time? Gareth
-
Yes yes yes - cheers @Arthur - it's the SoftPaq one I was after. Could not remember the name of it at all - which is probably why Google would not find it. Gareth

Evening all, A few years ago I remember using a utility from HP which let me mass download drivers for HP desktop machines such as the 7700, 7800, 7900 etc etc. I need the app again but despite searching and asking Google, I cannot find it. Does anyone have it, or at least a link to it? Thanks Gareth

Thank you everyone for your comments in what has been an interesting threat for me. I'm no wiser really. Windows 7 does everything we need and I don't think we have the time to follow the Windows 10 upgrade and break every release. Sigh. Not sure. Not sure. Roll on the weekend to think about it. One question I guess is how do your schools deal with an issue when an update breaks something (like profiles)? Gareth
-
Ahhh yes - the holly grail. We've been asking the LEA for years if we could have it on our network to control our part of the LEA wide AD. We've been told no and no. Now they are doing it themselves. Not sure how it is going to work. Nobody is speaking telling us owt. Gareth
-
I've never really had time to script everything into the MDT deployment. Something to think of. A lot of our stuff goes out via GPO but the ones that go into the image should be easy enough if they have silent installers. What do you do with things that do not have silent installers? Am I thinking of this correctly? Gareth
-
OKay - thanks @KK20 . SO based on everything here am I better working with a Version of 10 (such as 1607 or 1703) that has been 'played with' by many on here and working with that, or should I be looking to work with 1709 and all it's own issues. @mavhc - If you are letting your Windows 10 installation upgrade itself through the version numbers - does this mean you are resetting your profiles each time as suggested by @KK20 in his post? Gareth
