Just started a school that are going to be using SLG by september..... have a few questions as i've never heard/used this before: *Capita have installed it, at whatever cost* so can access it.... How do I add users? parents? How to the parents get emailed? is one set up or do we collect the emails? How do I lock certain areas down? I know these questions are very general but this is where my knowledge is....

It really depends on your school I've work in a large college before with a full ITIL database, everything was logged and then searched for trends, jobs per day,week, month who did them ect an asset database was build in, the dogs really (numeras Footprints). But now im a network manager at a small ish school school we have Cpanel here does what is needed but as for logging all calls its something we can't do were just to busy thoughout the day! but without the SLT team on our backs we will not be logging the calls, if they were then we would log them. Its all about what the higher powers want really I know my techs are working and at the moment they do, when they ask what there doing I know. But some SLT teams want pretty pictures showing this.

Hi, I'm after a wireless card? either a pci or usb.... but if its PCI has to be for a small form pc. I've always had a wired connection, but after moving home my office is now on the top floor and the mrs is not keen to have cabling through the house. My office is on the 3rd floor so needing a good card/usb I have a netgear N router and looking for a really good adapter can anyone recomend one please? Thanks

I want to set up a Sims testing enviroment, where I can pull an image of what is currently in sims and then export it to Virtual Pc machine or something like this where the admin team can play around with sims and not break the real one? Can this be done? and if so how?

Morning all, im trying to create an area where by the students can submit work in the ICT area but not open up anyone else's work? Is this possible and if so how? have tryed changing permissions to the folders but keep getting under a students account access is denied? Cheers

It is a windows server OS, very new to this vbs scripting stuff was using shared printers before and for some reason it will not allow it on this network. Just looking for a work around until half term when I can rip everything apart a simple script to manually change and add printers per room. Will try the above Thanks

Anyone else have any ideas? I've got about 50% of the printers down.....

Im taking it I would put the script in a .bat file then place it in the start up?

I have just started a new job as a network manager this week so trying to solve a few probelms. The network is a little dodgy to say the least they/we've (now) been having a problem for quite some time with printers dissappearing off the students pcs. We are using xp sp3, server 2003, there is a print server and the students use this very long scipt in there log on to select the printer, but nothing shows agter log in, this is not every pc just one in two!!! Any ideas? Morning all, Have started a new job this morning as a NM, now for the bad side............ well theres alot to list so ill start with a simple one! I have two techs here and myself set up user account for myself added domain admin rights ect and then added them as domain admin (they were not before) as they cannot install software for some reason.... All of us now cannot install software says " You do not have sufficicient privileges to complete this installation for all users of this machine"? any ideas? Cheers

Windows 7 Problem Steps Recorder: miracle tool – istartedsomething been looking at this with a view to roll out when we go to windows 7 looks great! quote - If you’ve ever offered technical support to other computer users, you might find yourself losing a slice of your sanity over their inability to describe the problem clearly. And most times it’s not the fault of the user, it’s just difficult to describe what you see with words. A feature new to Windows 7, called “Problem Steps Recorder” looks to be the missing tool for documenting where it all goes wrong. What the tool is a simple but advanced variation of a screen capture software. Think of it as an automated “Print Screen” plus a little monkey in the background documenting all the mouse clicks, key strokes and gathers some technical reading material, who then ties up everything in a neat box and saves the results. The neat little box you get is a zipped MHTML report page which can be sent off directly to the help desk. The report page is where this tool really shines. It actually is an XML page documenting each step of the user’s actions complete with a screenshot with the item highlighted. You can view the report as is, or as a slideshow, or even dig into the raw XML to expose greater detail like the X&Y coordinates of the mouse. Here’s a report I prepared earlier for your viewing pleasure. You must use Internet Explorer to view MHTMLs. music started again last night 8pm till 1am............. argh quite time! nope 5am back on BOOMING... time to play things my way, went into the little out house where the electric meters are, turned his off, changed the lock to one of my own! strange its been quite all day!!!! and they cannot contact the landlord until Tuesday by time I will have chnaged the lock back.... Wonder if this will be the last of I hear this weekend!
