  1. Windows 7 and 8 license keys still activate Windows 10 installs, just use the license keys they have, just use the standard 10 installer off MS's site. If you have devices with the Key embedded in the BIOS, a lot of Win 8 era devices started this, 10 just installs and never even asks for a key! Try it one one device first if you want to check it works. Server will have to be paid for.
  2. Syncing PST files is a nightmare, I think they used to be excluded at one point in time. We ended up having bigger mailboxes and ditching PST completely because of sync issues corrupting these!
  3. What compatibility level is your SIMS sql database, wasn't there something about when running on SQL 2014 you had to have the DB in SQL 2012 compatability level? I'm not working with SIMS any more so my memory is rusty!
  4. Take it from someone who had to deal with a system that had been changed to start the academic year in july! DONT DO IT! the oddities and fallout all over the system was a pain... I moved it back to September the first chance I got!
  5. Hi, out of interest, what plan did you go for?
  6. Hi, did anyone figure this out? When we email groups of parents our email is sent out via Office 365 High Risk Delivery Pool and thus not trusted or rejected from the likes of BTinternet, AOL and hotmail, I'm playing with signatures, disclaimers, have a case open with Office 365 and struggling to get to the bottom of it!
  7. P2V'd my sims box a couple of years ago on Hyper-v. I don't use snapshots, but I use Veeam Free Edition scripted with PowerShell every night. I restore to a test VM (leave the VM network disconnected!) before each upgrade or if I have big changes to try, works like a charm!
  8. Remember when Vista was first out, with its new online activation, problem was, if you didn't get it in time, you couldn't get in to put the laptop online to activate it. I was at a school and had a pile of Acer machines we had to line up and keep calling in to MS to activate them one by one!
  9. Hi, if you just need another couple of Metres, do you have a 3-Pin Mic cable around... try it.
  10. LTSB 2016 on all the students PC's, I customised the default profile (like back in the XP days) to kill OneDrive and tweak some settings I couldn't hit with the GPO. Looking at Education but think it will be even more work, may take a shot at the staff PC's with it first!
  11. I need to make up a crossover cable to uplink the new hub!
  12. Thank, I completely missed that when I had a scan... not a good start for a Monday!
  13. I use the PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE environment variable in the UNC paths I put in the GPO, for example: Redirect start menu to: \\server\share\%PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE%\Start Menu Then I have two folders on the server: \\server\share\x86\Start Menu And \\server\share\amd64\Start Menu
  14. Hi all, what is everyone's opinion of switching to Defender for AV? So I'm finishing my W10 rollout this Easter, by default I deploy an image and Defender is running and updating until I push our AV out, sort of as a failsafe! I'm a bit cavalier with updates and the PC's just update direct from MS, no WSUS, did the same with 7 for years without an issue! So I'm thinking, do I just leave them with Defender running and leave the extra AV?
  15. LTSB - been great, I did some customising of the Default Profile on the Build, couple of tweaks and I'm even running some 15 year old apps on it!
  16. Ive spoken to a few people that recommend the Source 4 Profiles with HFL lamps and recommend staying clear from LED profiles. I'm going to hire a pair of each for a week and see what they look like in comparison, it's rehersals till just before Easter so plenty of opportunity to try them out!
  17. We use SIMS for HR and Fees etc but Sage and Sage Payroll for the finance, we have some reports to export data from SIMS to Sage.
  18. Thanks, illl have a hunt around, I see that he has a few books. I will have a play with lighting at the back.
  19. Well I took the chance over the half term and took all the lights down to see the wood for the trees - and change the blown bulbs! (Sorry this is a long one!) Over the last two years I have just tweaked and tweaked, I didn't put them up originally, the lights have ended up a real mix and uneven. I've been and looked at a couple of other setups and taken a few ideas as a start, would like some opinions on the changes I made to see if my thinking is ok? Our stage is floor level and a square, the seating is tiered at one end. We had a few 300w PARS on the bar at the rear of the stage that were never used so after seeing this elsewhere I have distributed them around the bars pointing straight down as house lights during a show instead of using the sodium lights in the roof. I cleaned and moved my profiles to the bar at the back of the seating instead of the fresnels that were there, partly because I can reach them by standing in the back seating with out a ladder. I then put the rest of the fresnels (650W) evenly around the front and side bars, I matched either side with the same lamp type as some are different. The COREpar's are on the front bar. They are nice for flooding colour, that makes a huge difference as colour is one thing we are going for, but I'm struggling to find a good warm white to mix with the existing, tried a few suggestions online but I think a bit of practice! Generally the lighting is looking more even but still dull, I think especially given most are only 650W. Im thinking of looking at 4 LED fresnels next, I think the key will be getting enough to be able to use on there own as mixing of the Warm / cool white seems to look odd. What do others do in terms of mixing LED and Tungsten?
  20. Well, my pair of Corepar 80's arrived today, I got a small DMX controller as well for them, didn't have a huge amount of time to play but I have to say, they are bright! Just from the initial try I can see that having faders over software will probably be easier to manage them! Nice that they feature a stand that lets you put them on the floor pointing up, will be handy for some outdoor stuff! Will get them on the bar later this week and try them out!
  21. Have a look at your transaction logs, it may be them growing. What is the recovery mode set to on each db?
  22. Were aiming for a few things, Adding Colour - So I'm thinking the colour changing PARS The Lighting is Dull in general, the floods are old so I'm looking at some LED panels We have some profile's that are generally OK, they need a good clean I think! Our Fresnel's, some are very old, some are OK, again cleaning will probably help. Controlling in General, we had a nicer desk that died and I found the Jester in the back of the cupboard! I'm looking to add some to replace the House lights, with colour changing, I may even have these on a remote rather than the control booth, making it easy for staff to have some basic lighting. I think a lot will depend on testing some lights out and seeing whats possible.
  23. I've got a zero 88 jester 12/24 running 3 dimmers, it looks like it can do DMX-512, currently I don't have a screen attached, no space in the control room for a second screen, the PC is mostly PowerPoint and music. I would love some movable lights, less ladder time for me! But I think a controller change would be needed, or something in addition, software would be easier to add than another surface in the booth!
  24. Hi All, I'm about to embark on a revamp of my Theatre Lighting. We're on Dimmer packs currently! I have a couple of Chauvet COREpar 80's coming to test out for adding colour. I'm still looking at spot lights, I looked at the eve e-100z, what do others use? I'm also looking at DMX controllers, what do others use? Hardware or Software?
  25. Hi my reason for suggesting it is that the AV and Media forum is a sea of class room related stuff, theatre systems are a different kettle of fish entirely. Spectating it would make it more logical in my mind and bring it to a more focused audience.
