About ItsOggy

  1. Windows 7 and 8 license keys still activate Windows 10 installs, just use the license keys they have, just use the standard 10 installer off MS's site. If you have devices with the Key embedded in the BIOS, a lot of Win 8 era devices started this, 10 just installs and never even asks for a key! Try it one one device first if you want to check it works. Server will have to be paid for.
  2. Syncing PST files is a nightmare, I think they used to be excluded at one point in time. We ended up having bigger mailboxes and ditching PST completely because of sync issues corrupting these!
  3. What compatibility level is your SIMS sql database, wasn't there something about when running on SQL 2014 you had to have the DB in SQL 2012 compatability level? I'm not working with SIMS any more so my memory is rusty!
  4. Take it from someone who had to deal with a system that had been changed to start the academic year in july! DONT DO IT! the oddities and fallout all over the system was a pain... I moved it back to September the first chance I got!
  5. Hi, out of interest, what plan did you go for?
  6. Hi, did anyone figure this out? When we email groups of parents our email is sent out via Office 365 High Risk Delivery Pool and thus not trusted or rejected from the likes of BTinternet, AOL and hotmail, I'm playing with signatures, disclaimers, have a case open with Office 365 and struggling to get to the bottom of it!
  7. P2V'd my sims box a couple of years ago on Hyper-v. I don't use snapshots, but I use Veeam Free Edition scripted with PowerShell every night. I restore to a test VM (leave the VM network disconnected!) before each upgrade or if I have big changes to try, works like a charm!
  8. Remember when Vista was first out, with its new online activation, problem was, if you didn't get it in time, you couldn't get in to put the laptop online to activate it. I was at a school and had a pile of Acer machines we had to line up and keep calling in to MS to activate them one by one!
  9. Hi, if you just need another couple of Metres, do you have a 3-Pin Mic cable around... try it.
  10. LTSB 2016 on all the students PC's, I customised the default profile (like back in the XP days) to kill OneDrive and tweak some settings I couldn't hit with the GPO. Looking at Education but think it will be even more work, may take a shot at the staff PC's with it first!
  11. I need to make up a crossover cable to uplink the new hub!
  12. Thank, I completely missed that when I had a scan... not a good start for a Monday!
  13. I use the PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE environment variable in the UNC paths I put in the GPO, for example: Redirect start menu to: \\server\share\%PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE%\Start Menu Then I have two folders on the server: \\server\share\x86\Start Menu And \\server\share\amd64\Start Menu
  14. Hi all, what is everyone's opinion of switching to Defender for AV? So I'm finishing my W10 rollout this Easter, by default I deploy an image and Defender is running and updating until I push our AV out, sort of as a failsafe! I'm a bit cavalier with updates and the PC's just update direct from MS, no WSUS, did the same with 7 for years without an issue! So I'm thinking, do I just leave them with Defender running and leave the extra AV?
  15. LTSB - been great, I did some customising of the Default Profile on the Build, couple of tweaks and I'm even running some 15 year old apps on it!
