[sims] Discover - Dynamic groups not feeding in to SIMS
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to LosOjos's topic in MIS Systems
When we've had the issue where some groups work and other don't that it is down to non-alphanumeric characters int he group names. Discover will let you create groups with symbols in it's name, but SIMS can't handle all symbols. If you do have nay, try re-naming the group and leaving out the symbols. -

[sims] Report out of SIMS for MS SDS
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to woody's topic in MIS Systems
Would it work better if you turned it around and did a Staff based report with a class sub-report? -

I'm thinking that if you have deactivated prior admission groups then they are holing on to the name 'Year 7' in some way and because they are deactivated SIMS is allowing you to use the name again but isn't properly handling it in the background and appending the numbers you see. I suspect one screen is displaying the groups display name and the other is displaying the groups database identifier instead.

Have you only just started using admission? As you don't seem to have any inactive admission groups from previous years. Also if you open up the Autumn Y7 group, what is defined in there?

In my experience a school's perception of an MIS can be limited by their support, if you find a good support team who is willing to put in the time to get your school comfortable and proficient with a system then any decent MIS can be good. There are many MIS support teams around the Manchester area and you can find support for many of the major MIS's out there.

You can also drag multiple bars from the atendance graph in to a group (e.g. 85%, 80%, less than 80%) to generate a group for less and 90% atendance.
-
You can also get the manuals by clicking the Documentation button on the SIMS homepage. Yes LSU stands for Local support Unit but they haven't been local for quite some time, I've worked for various LSUs over the years and some supported schools in other countries, I should probably use a different description of them as LSU now I think about it is rather outdated. You could always find a SIMS Support Team who do remote training rather than fly back to the UK (If you want more information, please feel free to PM me)

What you are describing is an aspect analysis that can be embedded on to the SLT's home page in SIMS. It's not part of the marksheet but will give them a constantly updating overview of where they are, even while all teachers are entering marks. Ask your LSU to set an example one up for you (or attend the 2 day training course Capita/your LSU provide, or read the assessment manuals)

Discover doesn't auto install. You have to re-deploy the Discover upgrade after specifying an agent with the role for the first time (i.e. the machine has never had Discover installed on it)

For our SIMS training databases I created an SQL script that sets all those file paths within SIMS, it should be reasonably simple to reverse it so it gets the values and package it as a DBDiagnosis script so schools can see what folders SIMS is currently configured to use. I think that if Capita were to do this I'm sure it would be a helpful tool in this sort of discussion as guidance could tell schools to run the DBDiag script and substitute the results in to a standard document giving advice on what to secure etc.

Have a look at the connect.ini you are sending out via SOLUS3, it needs to point directly to the SQL server/instance and not a redirected one to the S: drive's UNC path.

It sounds like you may have (a) student(s) with missing/invalid data. When I had this recently I did a binary search using the report to single out the person with an issue then went over their record with a fine tooth comb. It turned out a CTF has brought in a previous name with some rather odd looking character in, which when removed allowed the report to run.

Student weekly SESSION attendance report?
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to lordyosch's topic in MIS Systems
Capita only implemented that in 1 place, Discover. If you open Discover and go to the Attendance menu and select the Percentage Attendance Time Line graph, then click the i button to display the data, you can then export this to Excel. Here is a screenshot from Capita's training Data- 5 replies

Student weekly SESSION attendance report?
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to lordyosch's topic in MIS Systems
Are you looking for Reports | Lesson Monitor | Group Weekly Analysis Report? If you wanted the layout to put the weeks and groups in more of a table like the Student Weekly Lesson Attendance Report you can just apply a custom layout when running the report (which you can either write if you know xslt or get your SIMS support unit to provide for you)- 5 replies

[sims] Bulk upload for word or pdf documents to linked documents
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to Cookep's topic in MIS Systems
DMSA for SIMS is the only other piece of software I am aware of that does this Digital Link Solutions Ltd An excerpt from their marketing material: "As well as being able to import documents which were exported by DMSA, we have added a “Bulk Import Option”. This option will allow a user to upload documents created in SIMS or elsewhere such as pupil reports. Using the admission number or UPN found within the filename of these files, DMSA can process the file and upload to the linked documents area for each pupil a file is relevant for." -
[sims] Support - RM's Salford team?
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to limawhiskey's topic in MIS Systems
I'd also check if the RM/LA quote includes the license for all the modules (and also check against what you are using). We always get schools to review what they are using and drop modules they aren't using any more. -
[sims] Intouch SMS at unsociable hours
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to Sean's topic in MIS Systems
@Sean, I've voted for your Change request but noticed that I was the first person to vote. You need to vote for your own change requests manually as Capita's MyAccount site doesn't do it for you automatically. -
[sims] Show My Homework MIS problem
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to Bagpuss66's topic in MIS Systems
It sounds like they don't have a start date in their personnel record so SIMS thinks they haven't started with you yet. -
If you are using SOLUS 3, you can define the local connect.ini files to point straight to the server and thus remove the need for a mapped drive. Similar with attendance letters, if you specify the shared SIMS folder as a UNC patch you don't actually need to map it. Most of our users don't have a mapped S: drive any more, but they do still have access to the network share.

I usually install SQL express on a laptop and copy the backup to the laptop and restore it on the laptop as if it were the server. That way toy can isolate it fromt he network once it has all the files and not interfear with the live SIMS or associated programs.
-
Is it a personalised email for the parent or just a generic mail shot? SIMS 7 is quite bad at building lists like that because of the .net libraries it uses and the way they are used (i.e. some of them fetch each record with an individual SQL select query while going round a loop until it has them all).

Is your report a student focused report or a contact focused report? If you just want each contact displayed once then make it a contact focused report with a filter of linked to an on-roll student.
