You can make a start by going into SIMS and selecting 'Tools | Housekeeping | Document Management Server | Maintain Orphaned Documents'. If it has been several terms since your school last ran this routine be prepared for it to take a while, if it has been years since you ran this routine you may want to leave it running over night.

That statement was based on the schools we support and over half of them asking/attempting at the timetable building workshop a few months ago about doing it subject based rather than key stage based.

We get that with 1 school (but have other schools using Groupcall who don't have the issue), I've never really bothered investigating as they are getting a new server (and have been for 12 months now, it just keeps getting delayed) and I assumed it was a Windows 2008 issue. They have now finally got their new server and I'll be transferring everything on to it next month. I'll let you know if it still happens on the new server.

Personally, I wouldn't bother learning NOVA-T6, as it will be replaced soon. There are plenty of independent timetablers who can make a timetable for your school this year and all you need to do is be able to maintain it (that course is about 1/4 of the full course). From another thread in relation to the next generation of SIMS If you do build a timetable yourself then ask the school what its priorities are, most people I know start with English and Maths then add in other subjects, the idea of leaving KS3 to the end was largely abandoned by many schools timetableres when the KS3 the wasted years report came out

SQL 2016 is now supported (once you are on the Summer upgrade) so you could go for that if you want.

[sims] Admitting students now
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to Steven_Cleaver's topic in MIS Systems
Each person in SIMS has a unique external ID and that remains consistent irrespective of what roles that person is assigned. So the person with the role of applicant is still the same person who gets assigned a role of 'current student' -
While there is a Governor role in SIMS there is no functionality to assign that role to a person through the front end. It was for functionality in an additional module that wasn't ported across to SIMS 7. The best you can do currently is add them as either staff or an agent.

[sims] Admitting students now
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to Steven_Cleaver's topic in MIS Systems
Our LA tell schools not to admit students as it play havoc with B2B. The way they explained it to me is that effectively you are saying that the admitted student is now your responsibility but you are delaying their start (admission date in the future) and the school they are currently at is also saying they are their responsibility, so if for example a student gives different details that they wanted to have a different preferred name at the new school then it created a conflict in B2B where 2 schools both with responsibility are providing contradictory information. Therefore to stop this and may other conflicts occurring our schools are advised to never 'admit' students early. -
Our's uses Capita ONE

if you look at the specification (or more easily the example files for the 2017 series 13 ATFs) on the www.gov.uk website you'll find both

are in the schema

SIMS SERVICES MANAGER page cannot be loaded
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to minad786uk's topic in MIS Systems
In that case this is a call for Capita as you've found that nothing is listening on port 50000, SSM is configured for port 50000, the service is running and the service doesn't show up in the list of things listening to any port. I have never come across this scenario and it suggests the SSM program itself is erroring in some way. -
SIMS SERVICES MANAGER page cannot be loaded
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to minad786uk's topic in MIS Systems
if you look at C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS Services Manager\SimsServiceHost\SimsServiceHost.dll.config (assuming you installed it tot the default location) do you have 3 lines that say? -
SIMS SERVICES MANAGER page cannot be loaded
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to minad786uk's topic in MIS Systems
If you look through the services on that server, is there one called SIMS Services Manager and is it started? -
SIMS SERVICES MANAGER page cannot be loaded
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to minad786uk's topic in MIS Systems
If the SSM service is running, then that should be using port 50000. Have a look for an item in the Image column (in resource monitor | Network | Listening Ports) called SimsServiceHost.Service.exe and see what port it is listening on, then alter your shortcut to SSM to use that port instead. -
SIMS SERVICES MANAGER page cannot be loaded
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to minad786uk's topic in MIS Systems
if you open resource monitor and go to the network page, you can see what is currently listening on port 50000, if it isn't SIMS Services Manager then you'll need to change the config to either reserve that port for SSM or give SSM a new port. -
[sims] Restored SIMS database - intermittent Reason 0
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to synaesthesia's topic in MIS Systems
On a workstation where SIMS generates reason 0, you could install SQL management studio express and try connecting to your SIMS SQL instance. That way if it fails you get more data in event viewer about what it failed on and the SQL error messages tend to be a little more helpful than 'Reason 0' -
Getting Sims Discover on the go
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to 3enjammin's topic in MIS Systems
If you are running SQL 2012 SP3, have you download and applied both the x64SQLSysCLRTypes.msi and x32SQLSysCLRTypes.msi (as Admin)? You can get there here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49999 (This is a relatively new development and is at the bottom of my list of Discover issues for that reason. I should probably put it higher in my list) Also I should highlight that you need both the 32 and 64 bit versions (assuming you are using a 64 bit server) -
[sims] SIMS Scheduled Reports - Arrrrghhhh!!!
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to LucieP's topic in MIS Systems
Also worth noting, the homepage refresh time for the Scheduled report widget is very long so to check it worked you'll need to close and re-open the SIMS homepage.- 13 replies

[sims] SIMS Scheduled Reports - Arrrrghhhh!!!
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to LucieP's topic in MIS Systems
the first thing to look for, is in the Binn folder, is there a connect.ini file with a modification of the time you ran the command? If so does it have the correct information in it? (Mine looks like this) [sIMSConnection] ServerName=MIS-Server\SIMS2012 DatabaseName=SIMS ServerType=SIMSSQL [Reports] Timeout=300 MaxNumberOfTableJoins=1- 13 replies

[sims] SIMS Scheduled Reports - Arrrrghhhh!!!
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to LucieP's topic in MIS Systems
This is why I don't let Capita on our servers without very close supervision. The security holes they open up, you may as well put up a neon sign to all ransom ware saying "Free Money Here!"- 13 replies

[sims] SIMS Scheduled Reports - Arrrrghhhh!!!
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to LucieP's topic in MIS Systems
if you open a command prompt as the user you are running the scheduled task as, and run C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.SIMS2012\MSSQL\Binn\AutoReports.exe (taking in to account your setup for file location), does it say it is the version matching your version of SIMS? If so then run the same with the arguments /S:Servername\SQLinstance /D:Databse /U:SIMSUser /P:Password (altered for your setup) Do you get any errors?- 13 replies

[sims] SIMS Scheduled Reports - Arrrrghhhh!!!
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun replied to LucieP's topic in MIS Systems
Have you created the custom permissions group in SIMS and assigned it to the user you are running the scheduler as? (That is usually the step missed)- 13 replies
