  1. Its probably target fixation - You end up going where you are looking. I'd recommend finding some easier corners and build things up. There isn't really such a thing as going round the corner too slowly, as there is always a chance of being stuck in traffic. I've done exactly the same thing on Saturday on my CBT re-take, except I just recovered at the last moment. The other thing that helps is keeping everything smooth - braking, acceleration, gear changes and clutch. If its not, then the suspension will go up and down, the distance between the wheels will change as a result and the bike will generally be less predictable. Chain tension is also important, so worth checking regularly if on a geared bike.
  2. These days we don't. Secondary's are nearly completely 1-2-1 Chromebooks. The remaining shared CBs are in Lock n Charge baskets (5 per basket) that the students collect and then 'forget' to bring back. Primary schools, the trolleys are in fixed locations round the school, and the staff bring the students to get one each. We used to have the students collect the trolleys at one of the secondaries, but this wasn't without risk.
  3. This is the google apps script I use with google sheets, hope it helps. function hex2paxton_SN(hex) { if ( hex && hex != "") { return parseInt(parseInt(hex, 16).toString().substr(-8, 8)).toString(); } } /// convert an 8 character hexadecimal number (string) to the HID format. // // Process: // 1. Reverse the bytes // 2. take the right most (Least significant) 27 bits // 3. convert to decimal // 4. limit to right most 8 chars. function hex2HID_SN(hex) { if (hex && (typeof(hex) == "number") && hex != 0 ) { hex = hex.toString(); } if (hex && (typeof(hex) == "string") && hex != "") { var hex_reversed = hex.substr(7, 1) + hex.substr(4, 2) + hex.substr(2, 2) + hex.substr(0, 2); var bit_mask = 0x07FFFFFF; var final_number = bit_mask & parseInt(hex_reversed, 16); return final_number.toString().substr(-8, 8); } else { return ""; } }
  4. Have you got a phone with an RFID or NFC reader on it? You can get an app that will let you read the card serial number in Hex. It can then be converted with a spreadsheet formula or windows calculator in programmers mode. You won't reliably be able to convert the numbers as part of it is missing in both paxton and Signinapp formats. You might get lucky if all your cards are from the same batch as part of the CSN is the same for each batch of cards. Unless you can scan the number into an existing system in hex format (like say Papercut), its probably easiest to just scan the cards twice. You can get usb card readers that spit out the necessary hex code, but you then have to copy and paste it in every where. Another thought I just had is what card readers are you using with Net2? Are they the paxton one, or HID readers? Can you take one off the wall and look at the part number? Should be a screw underneath the reader to release it. Paxton readers have 3 lights, HID normally have 1 bar across the bottom.
  5. You can get the parts on Amazon, but its not an easy job. I'd probably go for a local company for repair if we get another one. Luckily we don't have many ipads.
  6. Zoho Vault is also an option for teams.
  7. There is an activity log at the bottom of the device page that is more accurate (and doesn't match up with the recent users list). It seems like this needs a fairly recent version of chrome os on the device (since about christmas). I ignore the recent users list now as I don't think its been updated for some time.
  8. You could try one of these. The plate should just bolt on as I think its from the same manufacturer. If not, you will probably find a bolt between the crossbar and the clamp on the end of the pole. If you swap the crossbar over it should almost certainly fit. https://cpc.farnell.com/sahara/1150014/projector-mount-1m-ceiling-kit/dp/ST01198 I'm sure these were much cheaper in the past though.
  9. Last time I looked we considered the Soundcraft Signature, and the Midas DM16. We went for the DM16 but I would have preferred the signature as the EQ has more bands. If you use it with lots of mics, a good EQ section really makes a difference if you know how to use it. We also have a Behringer x32 at a different school and that has done us really well, but not everyone knows how to use it. You can get a lot more features in a smaller and lighter package. Being able to mix from a tablet/laptop/phone can help speed things up if your mix position isn't optimal. You won't really get a bad mixer these days, but its worth thinking about your use cases so its not overly complicated, and also bear in mind that at the cheaper end of the market either the faders or PSU will die and it won't be worth repairing. These mixers need replacing much more frequently than the full size versions.
  10. Are you providing devices for every student, or just those with needs? We only give CBs to some students, which are school owned devices. However we could deploy Trelson via the google admin console in the morning and run it in kiosk mode. If they have to submit work via Trelson, then it won't really help them to log out and back in even if they could.
  11. I'd echo this as well. Cheaper ones might work well to start with, but soon you will spend so much time troubleshooting its not worth it. The other option is hire. you can get these things fairly cheap if you only need them occaisionally.
  12. We've not seen a problem so far with component failure, apart from on the really cheap end of the market. TVs are often on all day in home use or for store demos. Warranty is certainly something something to check with the supplier. Richer Sounds Business department were able to do us a commercial warranty for a small amount extra, although I don't think we ever used it. I'm not sure if we found any other supplier who would do this. Replacing the projector doesn't always help if you want to upgrade from vga to hdmi input as the cabling to a wall mounted device is easier. Plus you still get shadows if people stand in front of it. It can often be the cheapest option though if you have a good universal mount in place.
  13. My local sainsbury's too. I don't think there is any issue around the hardware and software. Its a really capably and reliable solution. But the pre and post-sales support could be much better. If they sorted that out they could sell to a lot more organisations.
  14. This is key. Also getting key office staff + SLT in on the decision process. There will be staff doing things with Sims that you may not even have thought about. Having been through this process over the last 6-12 months, I would have liked to take a lot more time over the decision. When we've spent time with Arbor getting different parts setup correctly and doing training/brainstorming sessions about how we want to use it, we've had much better feedback from staff. The short migration time forced onto us by ESS really didn't help, but being part way though the tender we didn't want to get stuck with sims for 3 more years. Both Arbor and Bromcom are going to work differently to sims, so its important to make sure these differences aren't going to impact daily operations negatively. There are some real benefits to some of these differences, especially with some of the documentation around Exams and Census. I feel like I understand these areas much better after half an hour of reading the Arbor docs, even if I was to go back to Sims.
  15. We've had Cambium for a while now, and its a great solution. Creating guest vouchers is dead easy - you just export as PDF and send to the printer. We are also looking into options for other schools now, and Cambium + Aruba is on our list along with Meraki. When we last looked at Unifi I think there was a limit on how many SSIDs you could have. Not sure if that's still a problem. Our unifi switches have been rock solid though. We've also had/have Ruckus at schools. Its been a solid solution. The main issue we've had on older installs is getting matching APs that support the firmware of the controller and the other APs. Having to do a mail merge to generate guest vouchers is a pain, but is manageable. I'd also really recommend a good site survey. No matter how good the solution is, you can end up with dead spots. Also consider your buildings walls and furniture. If you try and go to shallow getting signal through a wall, even a thin wall can be quite a problem. Also if people put lockers in the way, that's caused us headaches before.
  16. Its all going to depend on how busy the network is. On of our primarys is fine on a flat network, but its probably half the size of yours. You might want to talk to spitfire communications - http://www.spitfire.co.uk. We are hosted with them, but we have access to the management console for day to day changes etc. They also have supported on prem for us in the past.
  17. I'd recommend something middle of the road from a well known brand. Most tires these days are pretty good - even the unbranded ones on my chinese motorbike handled really well. I would have got the same again if I could find them. The grip and life span/wear rate of tires is always going to be a trade off. Harder tires will last longer but have less grip. Softer tires have more grip but faster wear rate. Unless you are especially aggressive or passive with your driving style, I'd try and balance it out. Also, most reviewers are going to be comparing brand new soft tires to older harder worn out tires, so anything is going to be an improvement. Probably also worth seeking the advice of the tire fitters. If they have something in stock, its probably good and quicker than waiting for something to be ordered. They probably have knowledge of what works well in your area/environment/climate and on that model of car. Certainly on bike tires there are other differences like Radials and Bias Ply that matter depending on the bike. There may be similar issues on car tires. Date codes are also important if you are ordering your own tires. There is a 4 digit 'DOT' code on all tires that tells you the week and year of manufacture. Tires have a shelf life (i think about 8 years) over which the rubber degrades. Make sure you arn't getting palmed off with some old stock.
  18. Thanks, We've got a mercury 2 as well, but I think its a slightly more up to date one than in this thread as we have usb on it as well as parallel. Same problems though as its the driver issue. It sounds like you might have one of the opensource boards if its using lightburn. I've been pondering if its worth changing ours, but don't really have the time to experiment.
  19. Was this the boards in laser cutter itself, or is this the PC attached to it? Have you got the details if its the laser cutter?
  20. We use this type of mic with sennheisers with good results: https://cpc.farnell.com/pulse/mic-3000lj/microphone-headset-3-5mm-lock/dp/MP33908 May not be as cheap as you want, but you get better signal to noise level out of them as they are closer to the users mouth. Just make sure the capsule is to the side of the users mouth.
  21. I've got a beeline. I like the idea of it, but it takes effort to understand what its trying to say. Last time I used it, it told me about the turnings too late as well (as I went past the junction), but it is good at re-directing you. The compass mode also looks like it could be fun if your on a random drive and want to find your own route but still have a pointer to where you need to end up. I don't tend to do many journeys where I don't know the route though, so it doesn't get much use.
  22. Would something like rclone work? not sure if it does sharepoint.
  23. I think you can hire the fluke testers from various companies rather than buying them. Its probably worth reviewing cabling and cable terminations from time to time and having that documentation available about what you have. There can be some issues when you upgrade to 1g links to desktops for example, but if you've done that then its probably ok if it works. Its also worth considering how much longer you will need most of that cabling, and if you are moving more things to wifi/mobile devices. You still have uplinks and the cabling to support APs that you probably want to be of a high standard and able to support 10g in the near future. Knowing what state that's in would be my priority. Issues for me would be the quality of terminations (not too much wire untwisted at each end), type of cable (cat5, 5e, 6 etc, Copper-clad aluminium or proper copper), fire rating and recognisable brand of cable, cable routing - avoiding noisy equipment like lighting, lifts, etc, and that the cables are physically supported along their whole length probably every 30-50 CMs, and using some form of non-combustible (i.e. metal) fixings over corridors, doors and fire exits. Fire seals where it goes through walls and ceilings, Also internal cable used externally. Labelling end points and identifying where cables end up. Most of this isn't reasons to rip and replace, but does give an indication over the overall quality of the job. It might also help make the case for replacing cabling that is coming to the end of its useful life. Some of it can be fixed without replacing the cable. There's many things that can hide with cabling and become issues over time as usage changes, or cables/sockets degrade. Knowing what you've got is worth while and lets your support company charge appropriately. If I was doing external support then yes, I'd want to charge more if the cabling is not up to scratch and likely to result in more support calls. In house, I want to be replacing or repairing cabling before it goes wrong at a critical moment.
  24. We had a similar issue before. It turned out to be something to do with folder redirection. Disabling that for that user seemed to fix the issue. It was trying to write to the Documents folder if I remember correctly. Our error code was lightly different though so might not be the same. (5.7.2 rather than 5.7.1). Does it just sit there for a while and then give the message out when you kill the process off or do you get the message straight away?
