  2. Once you have the RFID card serial number in AD, talk to salamander and they should be able to pull this into net2 for you. For our setup, papercut uses the CSN in Hex format, paxton uses the same number converted to decimal and then takes the right most 8 characters from that.
  3. Do you use these cards with any other system like cashless catering or copiers? Or is it bank and oyster cards they already have?
  4. Do you have the fobs registered in any other system? Its possible to do a csv import, but in my experience bringing in the card numbers is tricky. Peoples names and departments isn't so bad, especially on a blank DB. You can then use the USB desktop reader, or a door reader in desktop entry mode to quickly allocate the cards/fobs. Or there is a mobile app for the latest version, this lets you add a new token to a user from a door event. Salamander have a net2 integration as well, if you use that. As above, the ACU serial numbers are on the PCB inside the box. I think there is also a tool to detect the ACUs, but it needs to be on the same subnet. Edit: the other option for ACU serial nos. is DHCP if that was used. I think most people set them up with static IPs though. They might show up as 'Net2plus06xxxxxx.domain.name'. The 06xxxxxx is the serial no.
  5. Google drive and drive file stream. Take the chance to get rid of old files. We asked staff to move stuff as they needed it. If they had big folders they wanted moving, they could ask us and we would use RClone to upload over night.
  6. We've used serif in the past (for IT lessons) and been happy with it. I believe LGFL schools have some sort of deal for adobe, user licences based on the type of school. Not sure where you're based. There are good alternatives, but it all depends on the teachers training and willingness to try something else. There's also the issue of not providing adobe and all your potential students going to the college or 6th form down the road that does.
  7. Probably will increase CPU a little bit, but not to a problem level if that's what your asking. Switches specialise in deciding which ports to send packets to, and a vlan is just another number in the packet header to decide on. There's often specific hardware dedicated to this, and the CPU is used more for the management interface. You may need a more powerful core switch / router to route between VLans/subnets. What does cause over-head is management of the vlans - you need to have good planning and network documentation. Also setting them up can be time consuming unless you use a cloud managed solution like Unifi (which makes vlans stupidly easy). You will also need to look at your DHCP and routing setup. The other benefit is reductions in packets that each host/server has to deal with. Especially for broadcast traffic. It can also help isolate network loops to smaller parts of the network. It all depends on the size of your network and the different types of devices you have - once you start doing BYOD for example its great to section that off on its own vlan. Building management and cctv stuff is also great to put on its own vlan, especially if you can add some firewall/routing rules to limit access to the few PCs that need to access it. For a small office, I probably wouldn't bother, but with a school it does have benefits.
  8. If you tap an Oyster card or bank card on a reader and get a response, then you're probably ok with the mifare 1k. If you can get one of the door card readers off, you can look up the part number on the back and see what that supports. There is normally a screw on the bottom of the reader.
  9. There used to be evaluation versions of windows on Technet for this, gave you 180 days or something. Not sure if its still a thing.
  10. It depends on how you assess the risk. If they arn't going to get used, then they arn't much risk. But then why keep them? If you pat test internally, I would just do it as the items are required. If its an external company, probably a test every other year and a good user visual inspection before use should cover you on this. Most items (80-90% IIRC) that fail a PAT test fail on the visual inspection. When it comes to common cables like IECs I'm really quite ruthless with what we keep. If it doesn't look pretty much brand new it goes in the recycling. Even if we had to replace them, they are only like 99p each. And we have loads of them.
  11. We don't use S2D so that might change things. I think from memory, the startup and shutdown settings for VMs are still in HV manager or Fail over manager. There is a save state option as well, that might save you some time. I would echo the comments on the UPS. Get as much runtime as possible. Then you are covered for short outages, or if you get nuisance tripping of the breakers - you have some time to turn it back on without doing the whole shutdown thing. Also, remember your batteries will deteriorate over time - 4 mins now might only be 2 in a couple of years time. Plus you can guarantee that windows will try and update at that point.   12. From memory, we have ours set to shutdown the server after a period of time. Then we use the settings in hyper-v to save and startup the virtual servers as appropriate. You can set a delay in hyper-v to get the order correct. Its only been used a couple of times, but seems to work. Our UPSs are then set to email us via our cloud-based helpdesk if they detect problems. Our main switch rack is also protected by a ups so emails can still get through.
  13. Probably a 32 amp cee-form or commando socket (these things have lots of different names). There should be something written on the outside of the flap or the white part of the socket. It doesn't look big enough to be a 63 A - they are much bigger.   15. We've also replaced our old system with 3cx at one school. Its was about 60-70 internal phones, and 5-10 external lines. Not too difficult, especially if you work with a supplier on setting it up. We got Yealink phones, T46 for offices and reception (and 2 blf field extensions for reception). T41 and T42 phones for other users depending on if we daisy chained the PC from the phone. You will also want to think about POE switches and data points where you put the phones. Its worth doing though. You have can have control of the system, and the cost savings can be really good.

  17. I think last time I tried this I either used superglue, araldite or a soldering iron (with lots of ventilation and an old tip you don't mind ruining). One problem we came up with was the shape of the enter key is different on some keyboards (even within the same chromebook model.) Make sure this is the same size or it wont fit your plastics.
  18. Don't know of a list. I'd start with a known good PSU (we have had a fair few failures of PSUs over the years, and they often go intermittent before failing completely). I'd also try a different cable - plug in direct if possible. Maybe also try plugging in a known good PC from one of the other systems. I thought there was a diagnostic software tool once upon a time, but I can't find that at the moment. There's not a lot to repair on these unfortunately.   22. I'd start by checking the fuse, then the cabling. Can you get hold of a multi-meter - maybe from the science dept or DT? If its the same as the old ones here, there is a locking ring about half way up the base that should twist undone. Its the bit that has the silver rectangular label on it. It may have a small grub screw holding it in place (not the one that says focus). You can get analogue cameras for about £30 from CPC and elsewhere, so I wouldn't be too concerned about breaking into it. Although I wouldn't expect the camera itself to be broken. Once in, check that you get 12v on the power connector at the camera. If you can, its best to check this with the camera plugged in. If the cable is broken, then it can be replaced with Cat5e, baluns and adaptors are available. Or replace the whole lot with an IP camera. If you can get the camera down, you could try plugging it directly into the DVR with a 12V PSU. Edit: Looking the the PSU box, the fuses are self-resetable, and look ok as the LED is on. They are the Orange disks that are on their side, labeled PTC.
  23. I think there was some thread on here ages ago about paxton and rfid card serial numbers. It depends on whether you use the paxton readers or the HID readers. From what I remember for HID, you take the hex number from papercut, switch round the 4 bytes, convert to an integer and use the last (right-most) 8 numbers. There may be a missing digit when doing the reverse. so A1B2C3D4 becomes D4C3B2A1, and then converted to decimal is 3569595041‬. Last numbers are 69595041‬. For the newer paxton readers, then just convert the papercut number from hex to decimal, and take the last 8 numbers: A1B2C3D4 > 2712847316 > 12847316 I was part way through talking to salamander about the HID readers before all the Covid problems, I need to get back on with that.
