Got to be cheaper than the 84" Hub 1's are? Also starts to ask the question - at what size is 4k going to be noticeable? On Hub 1 the 55" were 1080, the 84" were 4k. Now these 50.5" are advertised as 4k+? It does look good, hopefully it's able to authenticate on AD like a normal PC so we don't have to rely on the OneDrive for our files!

That projector is 16x10 native - so that maybe why the Windows kit isn't recognising it. (They output 16:9?) The newer MBP maybe outputting HDCP - we have big problems with it. Your older MBP is probably on an older OS so not an issue? My advice? Bin the HDMI and put VGA in! Or get rid of the adapters and get either active HDMI cables (up to 15m) or fibre optic HDMI cables - Kramer have released a couple of options that allow transmission up to 100m capable of 4k 4:4:4 @60Hz. Needless to say we've stopped using AV over Cat adapters now (we use Extron DTP systems) in favour of this...

I found the only real deterrent is CCTV. Logging user activity is fine, but who's to say passwords haven't been swapped (or found out), or a pupil has carelessly wandered off to collect some printing and left their machine unlocked? I had one incident where a pupil had accessed a porn site not filtered by SWGfL. Pupil didn't know anything about it. Checked the CCTV, he had turned his back while putting his coat on at the end of the lesson and the boy behind him had literally gone behind his back and used his machine. 20 seconds was all it took! Also used to find the "wasn't me" argument soon disappears when you show them the footage. Especially if their parents are at the meeting too....

I'm in HE as well, though outside the IT bubble. I need admin rights to run certain pieces of configuration software for our lectern control systems - we use Enhanced User Rights. Lets me do what I need to without full admin rights. Works for me!

Get your suppliers in to demo them. Play your own content, don't be happy with just what the suppliers want you to see. I would always go 3 chip over single chip now (no rainbow effect) and always over spec on the brightness. Lasers have a predictable drop off on the light output so by over spec'ing on the brightness you can run it at say 80% from day one and enjoy a consistent light output for a longer time. We have tested Panasonic, NEC and Epson units and ended up with the Epson (EB-L1300U). Best projector we own and no complaints here!

They don't look too bad for the money. Be careful with your frequencies - I recommend downloading the real frequency chart here so you can see what's what, as they can do Ch 39 and 40 as well. Stick to Group O, P or R throughout and don't mix groups as different combinations are the same frequency! (608.475 is on O3 and R3 for example). Sticking to one group will also prevent intermodulation between channels. Enjoy.

Thoughts... 1. The frequencies are in a weird place on the spectrum - definitely do your homework on the Ofcom site. You will definitely need a license, probably site specific. These are a headache! (We have a channel 28 license here) 2. I would definitely have a mixer in the chain before an amp - you will need to control much more than just volumes. Gain, EQ, HPF's are all your friends in getting good sound - make use of them! 3. As with all audio kit - but cheap buy twice. Img Stage Line is ok, but depending on your use may not see the end of the year! If your not afraid of buying decent secondhand you might be able to get some Sennheiser G2 beltpacks for the same money?

I agree this is fine for classroom use - not something I would do for anything louder as your gain structure is then all to pot! Re soundbars - we've just installed a pair of Crestron Saros soundbars in 2 meeting rooms. These are brilliant, no controls and just take the variable output from the screen. Sound pretty decent for the size. I didn't mention them due to price constraints (they're around £350 each) but if you want a soundbar that just works - I don't think you can go far wrong with that.

They're the latest in the line of the old Sahara's - fine for most sized classrooms in terms of useable volume. The only downside I can see is the controls are on the side of a speaker - means you'll be limited in how high you can mount them.

Wattage has nothing to do with how loud a speaker is. You need to be looking at the dB rating, often quoted as xx dB@1m. It is possible to have a 50w speaker that is more efficient than a 100w speaker, hence the 50w would be louder.

They're lockable 3.5mm jacks - they have a screw connector as part of the assembly. Standard for Sennheiser mics, hence why I'd go with them as they're a lot more available than the moulded type seem to be!

Remove remotes and have control panels on RS232. They tend to not move too much, but quite pricey...

I'd probably go the adapter route - gives more options for headsets in the future?

Have a look at these - is this the sort of connection you have? They're pretty standard for Shure and AT I think... (I normally use Sennheiser so can't be sure!)

Then they don't get them. Sorry to say this but radio mics are a big luxury. I'm always of the opinion less is more and surely we want to teach kids to project their voices in a clear manner, not mumble in a quiet voice? We get this all the time with HE lecturers who insist their events need umpteen radio mics. When we say we can't supply and you have to hire them in (at their cost, not ours, and they need a full PA because they're not tieing into our kit) then all of a sudden the urgent need disappears and the event goes just as well anyway. My 2p. I'll shut up now!

I'd be careful with auto on/off. The threshold of audio needed to turn them on means they can go from nothing to LOUD instantaneously. (We have this problem a lot with these!) Not helpful, but I would keep amp and speakers separate, or a pair of these with a simple timer power switch on them to turn them off at night.

Serious question I always ask - how often are they used? Why not hire when you need them?

I would avoid Ch 70 totally now. Latest Ofcom reports are now allowing short range devices to broadcast on these frequencies. Ch 38 is becoming more popular now, allows more channels and is therefore more flexible. You do need a licence to use it. HOWEVER... The license you buy for Channel 38 also has a small pocket of frequencies allocated from 823 to 832 MHz. This can be reached with some Ch 70 kit (I know Sennheiser EW300 units can get there...) so bear that in mind. Can you buy secondhand? Get a lot more microphone for your money... Haven't played much with digital yet - we're starting to spec the Sennheiser Speechline kit working on 1.9GHz (I think...) can pass on more when I've used them in anger. With a name like Scrumpy I guess you're in the West Country? Try Stage Electrics or Enlightened - I know Enlightened do educational discounts ;-)

Not an expert in Crestron, but their programming seems to be very complicated, plus I feel you need a controller per projector... We have Extron controllers that offer remote management solutions, the courses can be done online (ECS is £55) but again you need a controller per projector. This is fine for us as we don't have remote controls but rather full on AV suites with projectors, switchers, amps etc, with budgets to suit. I guess £500 a room for a simple control panel might be a bit pricey?

£7.99 for 18 batteries is a rip off. 10 x AA Duracell Industrials cost £2.69 from Stage Electrics inc VAT, I'm sure you can get cheaper out there!

+1 for Karrimor boots. The only time I don't wear them is when I have to wear steels for site visits. Tried a pair of Skechers and although they were really comfy, they only lasted 5 months!

+1 for a screen on a trolley. Keep it mobile so you can move it in front of the board when needed or push it out of the way when not - or just always have it on and use a Whiteboard app instead?
