Why not use the opportunity to get something more collaborative in there? Thinking Surface Hub or Google's Jamboard? I guess if SLT etc could get a taste of the future it might make things easier to put into classrooms?

Used to have a surplus stock when buying new systems - if they're ok we re-used the old keyboards and mice from the old machines. That with educating the pupils, CCTV in every IT suite and coming down hard on vandals, damage was pretty low and very rarely needed new kit.

Used to just use iMovie for the students who wanted to do their project on a Mac. A little configuration was needed to redirect project files to the local drive (not network), and telling the students to use the same machine. Otherwise nice and simple.

If I remember correctly it depends on how you've set your users home drive. We used to have to tell the students to click the "On My Mac" button in the Save dialogue box in order to get their "My Documents" folder up before saving.

Sounds like HDCP has suddenly kicked in! I take it the blu-ray still doesn't output if you bypass the mps?

One massive thing to consider here is scalability - once one teacher has it how long before another one wants it? Cheaper systems will only allow so many radio mics on the frequency band before you start to get interference from another set, and if they're portable you have no control - who's to say if you have 2 sets they won't end up in adjoining rooms, possibly picking up each others microphones? Also consider breakages - systems such as the one you've linked to will probably have no spare parts available, so when the lapel mic breaks (it will, trust me) will you be able to get a spare? And don't get me started on batteries, feedback issues, beltpacks going missing.... If you really want to have vocal amplification I would suggest identifying a room it's going to be used in the most and installing a permanent solution. Then consider sending teachers on a voice projection course - it's going to be cheaper! (I work in a Uni where we have a lot of radio mics installed in lecture theatres and classrooms - these are just some of our headaches!)

Setup would be multiple inputs to a switcher (PC, HDMI laptop connection, visualiser, blu-ray etc) then converting from HDMI output to Cat 6 to send to projector. Redundancy etc is not an issue here - just do you feel VGA is still being used, or can we safely leave it out and expect people to use HDMI?

Inputs are going to a switcher, not to the projector direct. If VGA was used then this would influence the type of switcher used....

You're designing a new lecture space and allowing facility for external laptops - would you still put VGA cables in or just HDMI? An existing PC and HDMI connection for newer laptops is already provided...

As most of what I do is fixing human errors, I'd say I'm pretty safe. Until they replace the humans that are making the errors - then my job may be less secure!

I always used to have issues with Profile Manager - usually restarting the Mac server sorted 98% of them!

Easiest way would be to configure your system to use the HDMI audio so that any input (PC, laptop, Blu-Ray) will work without having to reset the settings on each individual device. Either use an audio output at your display to go into an external PA system, or use an audio de-embedder such as this HAE 100 4K | Extron to give you a balanced line level output.

I have a Nextbase 212 in my SmartForTwo - using the hardwired power mount. Interested to know what mount options they gave you?

We use OneLAN - more geared towards business but it means that we can have standard slides going out across campus whilst still allowing local departments to customise their own slides. Works for us.

We have visualisers in pretty much every lecture theatre. The Elmo stuff is great - also have a look at Wolfvision. We've tried the Epson ones and found they're not great.

100ft is nothing. How do you think the guys running festivals get their DMX signal from the Front of House control board to the stage? Your sales rep is doing his job - trying to sell you stuff. You can quite happily go to 150ft / 50m or longer no worries. If you don't want to buy a new longer cable extending your old one is fine too. If your lights are all in one line then I would just run that cable to your desk - however you might want to consider if you want to relocate them at any time a powered DMX buffer box located on stage would be handy. This will give you optically isolated splits to each area and keep the signal at a decent level. As for cable, mic cable and DMX are virtually identical except for one major difference - the resistance. You need 110 ohm cable for DMX (it's a digital signal so it matters). You can use mic cable, and it will work, but when you start to push the limits it's things like this that get missed. You can, however, use DMX for audio and it's fine! Used to use iPod touches that we configured using Apple Configurator - locked to the music app with the content pre-loaded. Worked for us!

What you are asking for is one of these - https://www.interspaceind.com/cueing-systems/microcue2-speaker-cueing-systems-detail.html These are used in the professional corporate world where they have a main PC and a backup PC - the 2 machines run identical PPT's so if the main PC crashes the data operator can switch to the backup which is in exactly the right place and the presenter and audience know no difference. Seems very overkill for your application though - VNC viewer could be a much easier (and cheaper) solution.

Massive +1 for Chamsys. Used the dongle + software option for a while, and had a PC Wing which makes it even more useable. Plenty of online guides and YouTube videos to get you started as when you open the software for the first time it's a little daunting, but when you "get it" you'll fly!
