  1. +1 for disconnect from the motherboard - quick, easy to rectify and impossible for anyone to change discreetly. I did this on my old Mac network to stop students playing the change volume sound throughout the lesson, was quite amusing watching their puzzled faces on the first lesson after I did it!
  2. Dragging this back up - we've put symbolic links in to map the iMovie folder onto the local drive - user sees no difference. We have also used this trick for the Documents folder! Re Safari opening up a specific webpage at logon, you can specify Safari to open at logon using Profile Manager but I haven't been able to configure a homepage yet (though I'm trying to do it with Chrome).
  3. Posted here as it relates to my main hall projector and screen. I'm looking for an "all in one" solution for controlling my existing kit - an Optoma IR controlled projector and an electric projector screen that's controlled over RF. Either a remote control or a plug in USB box with software would be fine. Anyone have any experience with anything like this?
  4. How big is your trolley? How big is your gym? How competent are your PE staff at setting up kit? Too open a question at the moment to advise properly!
  5. Hi all, I've got 30 iPads I manage through 1.7.2. which up until recently has worked a treat. Nowadays whenever I try to restore my backup I seem to get a block of 4 that fail with either "Unable to erase device" or "Unable to restore backup". No rhyme or reason as to why. Only solution I have at the moment is to force them into recovery mode, but this is starting to get tedious! Anyone have any ideas? Specs - 16Gb iPad mini, iOS 9.3.2. Running backups in blocks of 10, through either Kensington Sync N Charge or Bretford PowerSync Tray. Apple Configurator 1.7.2 on a Mac Mini running El Capitan.
  6. Had a quick play in Adobe Soundbooth. In Tasks there's a pretty good noise removal tool, then apply an EQ boosting around 1K and higher, cutting from around 300 Hz. Play with the EQ to get rid of the underwater mudiness....
  7. You should be able to set up 2 different device groups in Profile Manager, and map your drives accordingly in there? As an aside, we map the Videos folder to the local hard drive to keep the user profile space down when students are editing video in iMovie. Means they have to use the same workstation throughout their project, but something we can live with. Might be worth considering for your application too?
  8. Second vote for the Clear Audio (Sahara) speakers. Use them in a lot of our secondary school rooms, simple to use, good sound and fairly robust.
  9. We use Windows Live Movie Maker - the students find it easy to use and produce some pretty good work. Only thing is converting the files to WMV to use with it - I use Adobe Media Encoder for that. Also helps with keeping the file sizes down on the network!
  10. Different idea but very easy to control - one of our teachers runs a stop motion animation club. Covers all of what your talking about but you can use standard webcams, I would suggest that as a starting point before going out and spending on new cameras for a club that might not take off, plus it gives them a natural progression once you have the interest?
  11. The inverse wired stuff is an old standard used before DMX was standardised. Look up PMX / Martin serial if you really want to know more (your dimmer pack may well be using this pre-DMX standard). Showtec stuff is definitely DMX, I've used that desk before and it's fine, in fact anything that's been purchased in the last 10 years should be DMX. There are adapters you can buy to inverse the wiring at that point in the chain, then re-invert it back to the DMX standard. Here's one... PULSE - PLS00405 - DMX ADAPTOR LEAD, 3P PHASE REVERSE | Premier Farnell CPC UK Hope this gets you working! If not the 5 hour version of Chamsys is £10.....
  12. Hi there - I'm a light / sound freelancer in my spare time, and a Showtec Main Dealer ;-) Sounds like you're setting the lights correctly - are you using the desk correctly? I installed one of these in a club and from memory they're a little awkward. The manual for the desk is http://www.highlite.nl/silver.download/Documents@extern@Manuals/50718_MANUAL_GB_V1.pdf Try following the "Preset Mode" option on page 7? And whereabouts in the world are you? If you're local to someone who knows more we could maybe help out in person! And for reference - ChamSys is amazing. Controlled my full lighting setup (traditional generic, LED Pars, movers, projection...) for our annual production of Narnia. Free software and visualiser and very cheap hardware. Happy to chat to anyone who wants to investigate this further.
  13. Thanks - my admin user name wasn't Administrator. Sorted that and it ran straight through. Many thanks!
  14. Hi there, Thanks for writing a true idiots guide to this - so far it's been awesome... Except I'm getting an error "The action "Run Shell Script" encountered an error." when running the El Capitan default user profile script. No idea where to start fault finding this! Machine specs - iMac 21.5" Mid 2010, 3.06 GHz with 4 GB ram. Any suggestions or help appreciated.
  15. Update - tg12, you may want to look at the first KB article here, it may help? Knowledge Library
  16. Hi there, Only on desktops at present - the only laptops in use are by staff who would logoff and logon again without telling us. Hardware is varied, A mix of old RM machines and we're now running Zoostorms. Again, happening across all devices with no discernible patterns. We've just come out of CC4 - now running Vanilla 7 using System Centre 2012.... Thanks for the input so far!
  17. Hi there, first post so apologies if this is in the wrong place or has already been asked. (Search didn't pull anything). A lot of the users on the network here are getting dark screens when they log on. The logon screen is fine and logging off and back on again solves the problem. This happens to random users, with no patterns to hardware, time, user name... So far the "log off and log back on" solution is working, but we're a little baffled as to why this is happening. Anyone suggest anything we'd be grateful!
