Watts = power used. Doesn't necessarily mean more watts = louder, you need to look at the dB sensitivity figure (again this is relative, standard that should be 1w @ 1m). You can have a really inefficient speaker that needs 150w of power to produce 93 dB, or a more efficient speaker that only uses 50w to produce the same output. Another reason to not look at Watts is the different ways is can be expressed - you have RMS, Continuous, Max etc. I only use this to match a power amp to the speaker (twice the power that the speaker needs). If the PoE speakers aren't a go-er, you can look at using Dante to get the audio to the locations then just use powered loudspeakers locally. There's simple output devices available to get the audio out where it's needed. But I would highly recommend investigating it to manage your audio routing.

Traditional method for this would be 100v line. If this is part of your evac system then it should be as robust as possible, with automatic switchover to fire bells etc. (Not sure on regs in your part of the world!) If you want to go fancy and try a PoE solution, Yamaha have just released the VXL1-16P. It's rated at 15w but delivers a significant 102dB when using PoE+, and has full Dante capability which will sit on your network quite nicely. If you want a networked audio solution, Dante is the way to go. But being in Australia you'd already know that? ;-)

+1 for going to screens. Contrast is so much better, easier to manage, no light shining in eyes etc. Well worth consideration.

For us we try to avoid screens with a lot of added features, such as on-board software or wi-fi connectivity, as we use the features in Windows 10 for all of that. Think about how it can be controlled - remotes do go missing if you leave them out so do you want RS232 control? Or easily accessible buttons? Another factor is weight - the bigger ones are heavy. Are you going to have to reinforce the wall to mount it?

Rad - not knowing what your application or budget is but guessing you originally wanted a fully mobile display for a sports hall, you can get screens that are flight cased with an inbuilt lift so that you just wheel out the screen, lid off, plug it in and press a button to lift the screen up, away you go. Seen them a lot at trade shows, if you want something tough that will last and is quick to setup might be worth investigating.

....or use RS232 panels. No remote to lose or have batteries stolen from, and keep simple hardware buttons in the classroom.

And in answer to your actual question - it's a VGA line driver.

Can you define what "not a long cable run" actually is? First thought as it's with a specific laptop, are the drivers different to other laptops? Try updating the drivers and see if there's any improvement. If not try dropping the screen resolution and see if that improves. If you're going from HDMI to VGA then as you've identified that's another fault in the chain. I'm finding StarTec adapters are working well, and reasonably priced. Hope that helps!

Cool. I've just bought a 55" Philips commercial display screen for mobile use - the 49" version is here. If you drop to a 48" the price drops another £70, but you lose 4k. Love these screens as obviously commercial displays over consumer TV's so no tuners to worry about, 3 year warranty and connectivity is all there - VGA, DVI, HDMI and USB. The only downside is the audio is a little tinny out of the box (all LED screens are!) but bring the bass up loads and it gets to an acceptable level. (Guess they won't be watching MTV on it so not really an issue, but for voice it's noticeable.) Suppliers - I use Roche a lot for supply only and they're pretty good. Don't use them for installs as I'm the other end of the country, but may be local to you?

May as well be asking what car to buy - must be able to seat a driver and have a radio.... To get a sensible answer some information is needed. Some idea of how big the room is? How many people need to see it? Do you need wireless connections? OPS PC? Touchscreen? Is the room secure? Are you worried about security? And of course the biggest one - BUDGET? Some context will help greatly. And location!

If you're looking at 4k AVoIP I've been impressed with the Crestron NVX-351 system. Doesn't answer your question regarding a software solution but 4k 4:4:4 with a 1Gb bandwidth solution deserves to be looked at.

Hi, this is definitely a question more suited to a domestic hi-fi forum rather than us, but let's think about it... So you currently have the Sony STR-DN1030 as the centre of your system, processing everything, and it all works fine, except it doesn't do UHD? Surely just changing to the Sony STR-DN1080 which is UHD compatible (weird as 1080 often refers to HD, but I never understood Sony's naming system) would work? One flaw I could see is if you wanted to export the audio over HDMI to another device (the soundbar you mentioned?) will that include the Dolby Atmos processing or will it be a straight passthrough?

I'm told the F35's make Tornado's sound like a baby's rattle in comparison, but I agree nothing will ever match the way the Vulcan could make the Earth shake!

Mavhc has said the tablet would be connected via USB - so still tethered. What you're suggesting is wireless casting, not what the OP is looking to do. And I hardly feel the picture is a fair comparison!

Add in the security aspect - at least the touchscreen is bolted to the wall and can't be put into a bag. Also you don't need to keep the touchscreen on charge, and it won't lose wifi connection when a class full of mobile phones comes in! Touchscreens every time for me.

Actually scrub that - SwitcherStudio will do exactly what you need. One Mac running PPT, the other running Studio. Then you can use iOS devices as your live cameras....

If this were on Windows I'd be saying use Screen Monkey - as it's a Mac have a look at QLab.

How old is it? Blue tinge is normally sensor related so I'd be sending it back to manufacturer.

Aside from the reasons above - what if you buy an aircon unit and it fails, causing damage to servers? You're totally liable, as the school can deny all knowledge and you're left with quite a large bill to pay, probably including a new aircon unit! (A friend has had a wall mounted aircon unit leak onto a PSU, thankfully his smoke detection and UPS was up to the job and no major damage occurred....!)

That's bad - 8.5k front projecting should be fairly good? Our laser projector is 8k and more than enough in fairly bright spaces? Time for a new lamp?

4,000 is nowhere near enough. For comparison, I did a mass in a large corridor, approx 100m long by 15m. We had a large rear project fastfold and draped the area around the screen as you described, and a 7k projector. Throw distance was approx 3m, using ultra short throw lenses... We couldn't even see the menu, so hired in 2 x 12k's and that was useable. Just. I think you'd be better off with a large screen telly on a table if I'm honest...
