Laptops are a nightmare. First of all if they keyboard dies, or when the staff or students break the keys it isn't a quick £5 job to replace it like a PC, depending on brand it's more like about £50 (if you are lucky) for a second hand laptop keyboard that *may* fit... smaller sized hard drivers, fans, processors, screens are all more expensive and a pain to replace when they fail or get wreaked, and on top of that you aren't going to get the power or the oomph you will with a dedicated desktop because they are using smaller, and therefore less powerful equipment. So generally you have to pay out for a very good wack up front... and then when something goes wrong, pay another good wack to replace parts if possible... With a Desktop it is far more robust and generally cheaper to replace parts. In classrooms we have a Desktop, VGA Spliter and monitor to connect to our Projector and Amp for the rooms.

Companies do change over time, Dell was a bug bear of mine a decade ago (HDD failure, Motherboard failures, bulging capacitors). Their quality has improved over time, as I have found has HP (which always seemed to have issues with their DVD Writers and false positives with CPU fan failures) and Lenovo.

My experience with Fujitsu laptops (specifically the A512 and A514 models) has been a bit annoying. Only laptop brand I have known to have issues connecting to USB devices, specifically SmartBoards but also flash drives before we outlawed them. This was despite of trying a multitude of drivers and changing BIOS settings for USB, etc. Never had that with any other brand of laptop, very odd. Some of the laptop screens we have had on those two models have also been prone to screen damage, large patches of LCD no longer functioning after time had to do replacements with some older compatible screens. So, personally, not confident on their laptop builds myself. Though of course, ymmv and things do change over time. We did get those laptops about 3 years ago now. Edit: Just to be clear though, USB issues where right from the get go, and screen issues about a year or so later.

ES-OVS covers all school workstations in the school based on FTE count, which does not include students into the count as they are not members of staff. It would not of course cover student owned devices, but I doubt that is what you are asking for anyway.

Open Sankoré is dead (well, the link is and there hasn't been any progress on it). Open Board on the other hand is based off Open Sankoré, and easier to type on UK keyboards. OpenBoard, the best interactive whiteboard for schools and universities If anyone else has any Interactive White Board Software that they use which isn't subscription based, I would be interested in hearing about it.

Ok, do this... Delete the file C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\MMC\services. Open and close Services.msc (you will note it now shows the Local machine). Change C:\Users\%Username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\MMC\services attributes to Read Only.
