Hi, yes it is possible to create an SSID with a "static" passphrase used for any Wi-Fi enabled device. The system will only generate random keys if you have specified your SSID to use dynamic pre-shared keys, this is kind of a 802.1x solution for people without a RADIUS server. Thanks Stuart

Not that it does not work correctly more that it is too dense or flooded if you like to get multiple reliable connections on the same frequency. The spectrum analyzer will tell us more when it arrives. The only way to avoid mass interference is to use another channel or take a hammer to the root cause. Thanks Stu

Have you checked the ZD logs at the time of the issue? run a speed test from a client at this time as well?

Can you please elaborate on "wobbly"? When the clients are disconnected view the logs on the ZoneDirector what do you see? AP's loosing heartbeats? Clients roaming aggressively? Regards Stuart

The 100 maximum is based upon algorithm. Each ap holds 100keys, tkip uses 4 keys per client and aes uses 1key thus 100 limit. With 802.11g bandwidth is an issue if you try to get 100clients connect to one ap the ap is more than able to handle this client number but of course you are stuffed for bandwidth. If it is a dense deployment u are looking for I highly recommend the dual band aps. Sorry for spelling and grammar using the iPhone. Remember net-ctrl will are a solutions company. Hi eean, The speeds between the client on the dual band a/n are not high enough at all! I have never received anything lower than 175Mbps Have you enabled Channelization to 40MHz, this will double our speeds and can be enabled on the 2.4GHz when the AP can speak 802.11n and the Dual Bands again 802.11n and 802.11a. We can also specify whether the AP is broadcasting on the 2.4GHz via using WLAN groups. Two AP's in neighbouring rooms on the same channel should make little impact on each other as the interference is avoiding each AP, the fact they both chose to use channel 1 is more than likely down to rouge analogue noise on the other channels so the AP's choose channel 1 as the quietest to sit on and then steer the RF energy away from each other. Think about client roaming aggression if this is set to low or medium the client will wait for the AP to come up before deciding to move to a new AP, try upping the aggression level to a higher setting and test again. As for the unknown SSID, do you have MESH enabled on the AP's? if so this "Unknown" SSID is the SSID used for the AP's to MESH together. Kind Regards Stuart White Net-Ctrl

Hi Shorty, You can get the wireless clients to go through your proxy by creating a Layer4 ACL on the ZoneDirector and applying that ACL to the SSID clients conect to. Note you will need version 8 in order to complete. Simply create an ACL allowing access to your proxy server on it is specific port. Add other Allow / Deny Rules below it. Then edit the WLAN and apply the Layer4 rule to it in advanced options. Kind Regards Stuart- 20 replies

Hi eean, If you had 10 AP's in close proximity you could have 3 of them on 2.4 and the remaining on 5ghz. It would load balance the clients as to how busy they are / how many clients happen to be on one AP at any one point. If a client is wanting to stream video or make a VOIP call on an AP that has 25 other busy clients then the client wanting to VOIP would roam to a less busy AP. If all AP's happen to be the in the same situation then the Smart QoS will be more than enough to handle the client’s needs. Remember most wireless systems will only have 8 Qos queues per wireless network where as the Ruckus APs have 4 Qos queues per IP device. Yes it would chose the best pattern out from one of its 4095 possible patterns to avoid interference from anything else and provide the client with a reliable connection at all times. However a glimmer of light as I presume you don’t want to upgrade 120 laptops yet, is if the clients you have can also support 11a, which runs in the 5ghz range which is called abg typically You could then use 10 aps x 7962 (dual 11n abgn APs) to get this bandwidth required of 10x20mbps on 11a plus 3 x 20mbps on the 11g, which would then scale up to over 750mbps as the clients move to 11n in the future

Hi Guys, thought you mike like some expert advice on this matter: In the sports hall there is so much multipath that you really only have 3 effective RF channels, 1, 6, 13 on the 2.4ghz With 11g you get a maximum throughput of 20mbps per channel, so you would have 60mbps to play with If you had 120 users (max would be 300 in this hall with 3 APs) Then you get 60/120 which is about 0.5mbps per student concurrent Adding more access points wont help either in both a single cell or multi cell environment due to the close proximity of the APs in the hall. If you moved to 11n then you would effectively have 60mbps per channel and that would give you 180mbps per 120 student, so still only 1.5mbps each The answer is 5ghz, you can have up to 19 aps on different channels not 3 in 2,4ghz Use bandsteering to manipulate the clients in the 5ghz spectrum, then you can provide about 1gbps in the sports hall, which is plenty Kind Regards Stuart White

Wireless presentation become confusing when the vendor talks about all the complication features of the units in depth but in all honesty you are buying wireless. Correct, You still only send one ethernet cable to the access point however you are also sending power along the same cable. The Zone Director controller is just a host on the network powered off the mains wall and does all the brain work. The access points can be powered from the mains wall socket or using POE which can be by adding single injectors somewhere along the CAT5 like this one: Veracity Outsource VOR-OS Power Over Ethernet injector – 1 port Or you can buy switches that will send the power for you or not depending on the setting on the switch. Hello, The controller (zonedirector) doesn't supply POE, it is designed to sit on the network and automatically provision Ruckus access points as they come online with the correct SSID, channel and power. It also controls who can access the network once associated to the access point via a variety of backend authentication servers. You can send POE to a Ruckus access point from a 3rd party power injector meaning a socket didn't need to be near the access point. Stuart White.
