Hi Guys, you can have the logs dashboard etc display a descriptive name of the AP instead of it's MAC address by giving the AP a descriptive name under Configure -> Access Points. You can achieve the same thing for clients if there is an authentication method used on the SSID that requires a username somewhere down the ine of authentication or authorization, i.e 802.1X or web portal authentication. Both of these features have been there since V8.0 as of last year. Matt feel free to take a support info file from the AP and a ZD debug with 802.11, RF managment and Access point enabled. I will take a look once i get a chance. Stuart

Matt there will be no 8.3 we should see V9 in the coming weeks which will add features like time based broadcasting and true spectrum analysis at the AP level. It sounds like you may have some interference, can you get your hands on a spectrum analyzer? It may be worth disabling back ground scanning mode aswell. How many SSID's do you have broadcasting? What AP model do you have? What is the predominant channel the AP's have chosen? Perhaps some channel management is needed? I wouldn’t change the Tx power of the AP’s but may suggest enabling the ability for the AP dynamically change its Tx power if interference is preset.

Also are there roaming profiles involved here? What is the speed of the AP to the switch? Are you tunneling the traffic back to the ZD? I think the 1st thing is to upgrade the ZD as suggested.

You can tell what version is running under the Sytem overview on the dashboard. @mattpant - what version are you running? 8.2.2 build 7? I have a 5100AGN card in my laptop and have been having problems with the latest driver but not in this respect.

Thank you. I agree there are not as many deployments out there compared to Cisco and Aruba etc, lets face it you don't get fired for buying Cisco or any other trusted name. But Ruckus is growing wiser and better with age. Watch their space! Cisco and the likes of others have started to realise that to get better wireless they need to start implementing things that Ruckus do. Just a shame for them that 90% of it is protect with patents.

Sorry i just can't see how you think University of Lausanne, Harvard Univeristy, Indian East coast, all BP garages down the westcoast of the US is entry level.

OK, so containment is a good thing in wireless but allot of implementations of containment is useless as a lot of the time it just sends out shed loads of de-auth packets to legitimate AP's. It's still not going to bloke the interference. So is University of Lausanne with 8,000 AP's and Harvard University entry level...ermm? Not to mention lighting up the entire east coast of India with Ruckus AP’s

Not going to Lie, i am a bit of a Ruckus fan boy. This is the product i recommend that we sell here after extensive testing. We tested all the other names as well and this one came out on top.

How does it block rouge AP's? how does it avoid their interference? Its obviously working quite well for you, just interested to know?

Ruckus (Ruckas) understand RF management. Other solutions are great if you want to do fancy firewalls and ACL's but at the end of the day why do people buy wireless ---- To get a reliable wireless signal - This is what Ruckus focus on and this is why Ruckus rule over all others when it comes down to Wi-Fi just search for the comparisons tests done by 3rd parties. In fact Cisco didn't even show up at the 802.11n 2.4GHz test last year.

Single channel ay, Very few Meru systems actually have that enabled since it just causes issues and doesn’t generally work, but glad it’s working for you What happens when a source of interference comes into play on the channel the SCA is using? Do all AP's dynamically change to a new channel? And then what happens if they switch to channel 6 but at one of the building there is too much noise on channel 6? Does it just have to suffer or does it change channel again to say...11 but now at the other end of the building channel 11 is struggling. In theory it is great if there is no interference at all which is EXTREMMELY hard to achieve unless you live in an open field miles from civilization. But when it does work on that small scale it can be productive. It is still leaking unused and unmanaged RF energy in all directions which just causes interference.

Thats right so you can rate limit on a per client basis per SSID. In V9 SSID time scheduling will be available. This is a great feature for schools that allow students access via their own devices, ipads etc.. but don't want the SSID broadcasting between certain hours.

Yes the ACL is created on the switch and is applied per SSID. There is no limited to how many ACL's you can create. Would you like me to send you some eval kit or run a demo online?

Don't forget that if you don’t buy Ruckus you are buying an Omni-directional antenna that does nothing smart when it comes to WiFi. You need some smart antenna arrays that give the clients outstanding reliability and performance. You need Ruckus.

By default any Guest SSID has Wireless Client Isolation enabled. This applies a Layer3/4 ACL to any user connected to the Guest SSID. Essentially you can lock it down so the client can only see the default gateway or proxy on any or a specific ports and deny’s all traffic elsewhere on your internal network. Go for Ruckus!

Hi, I strongly recommend upgrading to the latest stable version - 8.2.1.0 build 32 8.0 B53 was released just to support the newer AP models 73XX, it was released a little too soon and unstable. 8.2.1.0 build 32 is the most stable build yet. Thanks Stuart
