I wouldn't worry about blocking file types, when we first had meetings years ago about GFE, that was my first thought, it was a great place to store films, music etc, every school we visited was fine, then including our own, then future schools, I think it was more just how my brain though like ah! They would be a great place to dump all your illegal videos and films on to your google drive but in the real world it doesn't really happen or I haven't encountered it.

Google classroom and then we've got a shared learning drive with staff as content managers and students as view only etc, basically a networked student drive in essence
-
We give certain staff at each school access to reset students passwords etc, so they can do it in two seconds on the fly in lessons, so they don't bother us too much As said above getting a few teachers on board and trained up will be great for you and if they buy-in, even better We stop students creating team drives Like lots of things, introduce it to a sample group or class, get feedback, what's good and what's bad and go from there Tbh if you have time, I would find a school nearby that is a Google school and try to visit it there, see it action, see the admins who have been there and done it

Is this an extra paid addon? We have hosted sims etc but I've never seen an option or advert for G suite/Office integration Being able to sign in with a google account rather than the [email protected] every time and the complex password

Google gives most Chromebooks an extra year of software support

Agreed, I think they're a dream for IT, I would deploy them as much as possible, all gives the students a chance to buy one home if they want being reasonably cheap. Shame they didn't make the chromebox's cheaper as would love to run an IT room with one of them Also as said you've got licensing replacement in every thing, SLT etc think Windows pc will run for ever from years and years ago Ipad - apple normally at some point stop updates and the app store, as before we kept getting asked to install apps but the ipad were so old they couldn't be updated or download apps from the app store -

We do Google slides and Chromebit, once it all setup we don't touch, the staff manage the slide depending on where it is ie cateen, reception, sixth form, staff room and so forth They work really well when sensible do them and they have quick concise messages on, it's when people try to turn them into a full-on presentation they become pointless -
I normally create the file on my desktop using chrome sign builder, upload it through the g suite console then it deploys down to the chromebit, that's how I've always done it
-
After you exit Chomre sign builder it should load in your default browser the webpage needed
-
Create an ou for the device then in here, then under configure and upload the file

We got a bunch of recent Lenovo's and had to clean build them as they came with McAfee and it was a pain/borderline impossible to get it off it.

Yeah this is annoying but is it a data/gdpr thing etc, you can't see the data and shouldn't be able to without creating a log ie adding yourself to the class, logging in as student/staff
-
We just run chromebits with Google slides, once the intial install and setup is done, we don't touch them the relevant staff just edit the google slides, pretty painless for us.

Best way to clone a Windows 10 HDD to a larger one

I could be recalling this wrong but I did do it at one site, if it's VMWARE can you not just export the vhd file, then just import to the new machine, we did that when we moved a SIMS from one site to another, exported the drive to a USB/cloud storage, accessed the other end and just assigned it to the new vm -
We use hosted 3cx, most of it is pretty seamless and works well.

Thanks, still doing the same thing, having to manually connect then it works, all our rooms with the same or similar setup seem to be fine

Impero Machines Showing Offline
keyboards replied to keyboards's topic in Network and Classroom Management
By looks of it, you're bang on the money with the stale DNS, cleared that and instantly everything has mostly come back up, thanks. -
Hi We've had Impero for years and it has worked fine, recently we've half a room showing up, etc in lots of places but notably in It suites, our support has run out as eventually, we will go towards Senseo Anyone got any ideas or experienced this before
-
We've got it connecting but it won't automatically start
-
I'd go desktop all day long and refurb, nothing on that list won't run on an i3/i5 a few generations old with a decent ram and ssd

Hi We've go this working in the majority of our maths rooms through trial and error, is there a definitive way to connect the following We've got an old style Activ board Serial to the Keyspan then USB to the PC The pc picks up the keyspan, activmanager sees it on COM4 etc but when you click connect it just loads through, we sorted this on our other boards but I can't remember how Thanks
