They do an App now that constantly synchronises with the inventry system via the internet, so all you'd need is any phone with 3G/4G or an iPad with 3G/4G.

I've had issues in the past where if you install the driver suite, it only seems to load after logon. To get around this I removed the driver, extracted the files then did it the old fashion way through device manager, this way it only takes the files it needs. Maybe give that a whirl?

We use file explorer to save anything and the iPads don't leave site, nor or they assigned to any individuals so there's nothing to be lost really apart from some apps And for the teacher iPads they're completely unrestricted apart from iCloud being turned off, but they're able again to use file explorer, One Drive or dropbox.

I imagine that relates to Megan's law? Not sure if we have a similar system in the UK, but for schools at least, we probably should

Think a big part of it falls down to initial set up. Our school was part of the BSF and managed, so RM wouldn't let you touch anything without going through many painful steps and it took a long time for us to get it sorted, which was to turn round to them and just say "we're doing it anyway now and it paid off

I must agree, going Vanilla fixes so many things. All depends though if you like CC4 and it works for you buy SSDs is what I'd say

I despise iCloud. I don't feel from a teaching perspective it serves much use for them, so we have all iCloud services off and an Apple ID linked to each iPad thatcan't be changed. Saves a lot of hassle later down the line anyway

Running CC4 on 2 year old i5 machines we used to get 7 minute logon time. 7 MINUTES! Believe me, I was on the teachers side for once. I must have spent a good few weeks making an image on a per machine basis instead of adding drivers to a library and letting it do it this way. That and I made sure all drivers were correct and tested vigorously, but then, still a logon time of 2 minutes. Then we experimented with SSDs, with CC4 these make a hell of difference, mostly to the fact of how much crap it has to load at boot, got logon times well below a minute, even on older Core2 machines. I'd seriously recommend making a new image first and then SSDs.

Given that then any really, switches barely use any power, more so in a powercut when most the PCs connected to it are down. Last time we had a powercut, our APC 1500 kept one of our primary school servers running for over half an hour, so with a couple of switches with barely any load, I'd say it would be fair to expect at least an hour.

If it's just for switches I wouldn't really bother

Could always go back to basics. Make a new OU and then add the policies to it as you test?

Have you uninstalled the printer from that machine completely and let it reinstall again? Are the printers set via script, GP or manually?

Just use the key on the machine to activate, obviously if they connect to the server, it'll need a CAL. And in regards to office, I'm fairly sure that if you have volume licence and 365 the pupil is entitled to the full office suite anyway

Some of the new restrictions apparently for iOS9 (like stop name change, force backgorund) are only available in the enterprise one I believe and obviously as time goes on and features are added, the devices will be left more open and what not.

The restrictions page has changed and I believe if you want to use any of the new iOS9 features, you'll need to be on the new system.

What permissions are set via the Share and Storage Management? I've found in the past, permissions set via this will override permissions set on the actual folders themselves.

Is not just children changing the settings is it?

Poor performance from PERC S110 in RAID 5 - PowerEdge HDD/SCSI/RAID Forum - Servers - Dell Community Software RAID sounds like the problem here. Seems the best option would be to run them as they are now (which obviously isn't a great idea) or buy a physical RAID controller. I've had issues similar in the past, don't think I'd use software RAID again on a server, too much demand it seems.

At one of the Schools I visit, they have some still decent laptops, 4GB RAM, Core 2 Duos, HDMI, so still just as good as some £250 laptops. What they've been doing is raffling them off to parents or giving one away randomly to people who go to certain events. Nice extra few quid for the schools and incentives for people to visit.

Already using Meraki, but the idea of a Mac for silent installs and initial config would make life a lot easier!
