I know this thread is 6 months old now but just to make anyone aware if they decide to convert older computers with CloudReady, that Neverware no longer offer the Perpetual license option as this was considered unpopular and hard to support (bah!)

AFAIK, It doesn't do it if you go through the old System Manager 6 UI and will always display the initial generated password but this assumes they've not changed its behaviour since I last used it.

This is why programs like this exist. People know the Start Menu as it was isn't coming back at least not from Microsoft so those who want the older styles can install this and get back something comfortable and familiar to use. And while this is so, what does it matter? Who is it bothering?

I mean, It might have been because I had Second Edition but I didn't experience many issues really and used it daily for many years. When I first started working at a school (my current one) they were using Windows 98 on all the student machines (and for a few years too) and this gave me chance to work with it on a Domain level which was (wasn't?) fun. Erm, whut?

I'd be interested to know too as I had attempted to repair a B50-80 recently. Problem with eBay is that even if a part has the correct part number, it doesn't guarantee that it'll be the correct one as I found out when I purchased a new power jack for one (It's a jack soldered to a cable for earlier B50s and soldered to the main system board for newer ones.) I'd managed to get the cable based one but it was 8mm too short and once I'd managed to get the correct cable and fit it, worked out that once the battery had run down the user had tried plugging the adapter back in and subsequently fried the motherboard. The backstory is that they had left the adapter plugged in whilst leaving the laptop on their car seat. They then had to brake suddenly causing the laptop to fly off and hit the floor smashing the power jack to bits and bending a number of the pins in the process. So now I'm left to find a replacement motherboard as the school doesn't want to pay too much for it's repair.

I recall that prior to Service Pack 2, each edition of XP used to display it's edition name on the boot splash screen (i.e. Home Edition, Professional, Embedded, etc...) but for some reason by the time Microsoft released SP2, they decided to make the splash screen a universal one between all editions. It's a bit misleading for those of us who still had devices that ran POS 2009 and get irritating comments from both staff and students in that we're "still using XP". I did recently upgrade all of our cashless tills to Windows Embedded 8.1 so that will have put a stop to that but still.

I can't quite remember where it is, but there is an option called "Setup Browse Mode" which does as @Steve21 described and is enabled by default. Disable this and after 5 attempts, the computer usually will just halt and wait for it to be restarted.

Just bear in mind that if you get your internet via RM, they block all NTP servers bar their own. If not RM, check to see if your ISP has done the same thing.

Seems in our case, if I search for anything untoward on Yahoo then these searches do get blocked. This however may be due to an accumulation of various filter rules over the years rather than the filtering actually doing it's job from the get go. We do get the browser error page though when accessing blocked https sites, and this can often confuse users into thinking that the internet is down instead of the real reason that it's just not suitable. As far as RM is concerned, they seem to think this is just a side-effect to being able to filter out https sites.

Last I heard, Ubiquiti had planned to release v2 versions of some of their 24V units (such as the AC-Lite) which were supposed to support 802.3af/A out of the box but still be backward compatible with existing 24V injectors. We had similar happen to us once only in our case they were nice enough to leave us the Hard Disk too. We'd only bought the things a month prior. Bah .

Grrr, well Journeymap's broken in this release. All the waypoints are showing from all dimensions, they're all white, I can't edit them, turn them off or delete them so they're stuck there. Also they've removed the openblocks equivalent elevator and replaced it with the openblocks elevator which seems rather pointless given that the equivalent one worked fine.

There's also "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour" which I find easier to remember given that it's also the title of a Moody Blues album.

When I started building PCs in the late 90s, I felt MSI's boards were as good as their competitors and good value for money so used them for a few builds until up to about 2006 or 07 when I built 2 PCs which exhibited a number of issues. First one I built I used a high-end MSI board which failed after 2 weeks of use. Assuming this was a one-off (replacement board worked okay) I built a second PC again using a not particularly cheap MSI board. This one was the final straw as I had to update the BIOS in order to enable most of the front panel header pins before they would work (power switch pins worked okay though oddly). This put me off their stuff since as an end-user, I felt I shouldn't be their QA dept for stuff that should have been tested and fixed before going out the door. Since then I've used a combination of Gigabyte (mostly), Biostar and occasionally ASUS. I've rarely had issues with these and have never looked back. EDIT: Actually I should also add that one of my bosses at work a while ago built a PC around an MSI board. He ended up sending it back as it wouldn't detect any SATA drives despite trying all sorts of different components and cables. I think he ended up with an ASUS board in the end which worked flawlessly out of the box.

Thing is, I liked Skyblock but I gave up in the end due to a number of game-breaking bugs, one of which caused a lot of issues in my spawn chunk where blocks I placed wouldn't place properly or disappeared altogether (but I knew they were still there as I couldn't then walk into that space.) Despite that however, I'd like to give Skyfactory a go as this one seems somewhat more stable while giving us a similar number of mods to Skyblock. Though, like @Geoff if peeps want something different to play this time 'round, I'm quite happy to go for All The Mods 3 also.

Wish it were that simple for the rest of us though. They had our Primary phase and Secondary phase phone numbers the wrong way around and it took them months to sort it out which meant months of parents phoning the wrong sites and since we have 2 separate PBXs, the calls couldn't simply be transferred which also resulted in some of the parents hanging up then somehow ringing the wrong number again!

I think it's this you're after: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU and there's a DWORD entry called UseWUServer which needs to be set to 0 and then restart the Windows Update service which should bypass the WSUS server address SCCM has set.

Maybe it's just the 400 then. I recall 1 or 2 of their models did run that where as some of the others (like the BCM50 which we had for a while) were a bit better by running linux.

Could be worse if they were using something like Nortel's BCM 400 or 450 PBXs as the software on these run on top of Windows NT 4.0 Server!
